August 4, 2026 at 4:06 pm #315313Burly’s wRC+ is up to 129, and Walker’s is down to 130. Their OPS is .830 and .834, respectively. They both now have 2.4 bWAR, though Walker leads in fWAR 3.2 to 2.3.
Burly and Walker’s OPS is roughly 100 points better than the next on the team, Wetherholt at .738, followed by Herrera (.732) and (in many fewer ABs) Torres at .725.
August 4, 2026 at 4:21 pm #315316Need The Big Dobbinski to pitch a dandy tonight. The samplings are small, but thus far he’s been able to keep the bottom dwellers like Cincy and the Angels in check, but struggled with more accomplished clubs. Unfortunately, in all likelihood, the Yanks are going to light him up tonight. Hope I’m wrong, but I have to call this one 8-3 Yanks with our old pal Goldy finding the cheap seats with bat in hand.
What’s for din-din one may ask? How does 2 Oscar Meyer all beef bologna sandwiches grab you? Both on white bread, one with mayo and the other yellow mustard. These two gems will be accompanied by some homemade deviled eggs, sweet dill Gerkins pickles and Ruffles potato chips dipped into sour cream. Then for dessert I’ll head on out to the drive-thru lane at Popeye’s for not 1…..not 2…….not even 3……but 4 of their scrumptious apple cinnamon pies.
August 4, 2026 at 5:29 pm #315318Walker scratched with right knee inflammation.

August 4, 2026 at 6:27 pm #315322Dinner was catered Qdoba for someone on day shifts birthday. So I had 2 chicken tacos with all the fixings and made a little bowl with the excess with chips. Dessert was a piece of cookie cake. Sure beats the heck out of my bone in ham sando, utz lomited edition chips and a plum I brought. Will just eat that tomorrow.
August 4, 2026 at 6:32 pm #315323Dobbie should serve a side of anti-pasto with that meatball.
August 4, 2026 at 6:42 pm #315324This Frias looks like he’ll be a really good player. He’s only 18 yrs. old and he’s already perfected the fine art of sporting two diamond earrings and a large sparkly necklace…This kid can play!
August 4, 2026 at 6:52 pm #315325When I saw the one they call Bloom on the TV screen I deactivated the mute button to hear what he might have to say. I then heard something or other about Brad Pitt and immediately reversed course and reactivated the trusty fail safe mute button…I’m hoping we didn’t trade for Brad Pitt.
August 4, 2026 at 7:32 pm #315336Dodgers are out to an early 1-0 lead over the Cubs at Wrigley. The Dodgers have placed 4 consecutive games in the wrong column and look like they may fall from contention…
August 4, 2026 at 7:38 pm #315337All jokes aside, the NL team out in LA is wrought with baseball senior citizens. They don’t place too many 20 somethings onto the field.
August 4, 2026 at 7:54 pm #3153392-0 Yankers in the last of the 7th.
13 runs last night.
Nothing tonight.
Nothing.
And yes, I know Walker and Burleson are out of the lineup tonight.
August 4, 2026 at 8:10 pm #315342Herrera used to destroy lefties. You can see the difference this season as the Yankees stick with a lefty against Herrera with Bernard warming. And then Herrera strikes out swinging at a pitch above the zone. Ugh.
The Yankees then change to Bernar and the Cardinals counter with Burleson pinch hitting.
After falling behind 2-0, they intentionally walk Burleson to get to Velasquez who strikes out on 3 pitches looking completely overmatched. That would have been the time to use Walker if he was at all available. Must not be.
August 4, 2026 at 8:29 pm #315346Coming into tonight, we were 4 back in the playoff race and 3 ahead of the team with the 6th spot in the lottery. If Walker is out for significant time, we might just drift toward the latter pretty quickly.
Good night for Dobbins. Twice a runner at third with one out and they can’t get them home.
jnevel-
I was struck by the same thing. The Yanks had a lefty face him, presumably for a reason. Any sense of what has changed for Herrera?
August 4, 2026 at 8:35 pm #315347I’m no expert on diagnosing hitters. Overall though, Herrera just hasn’t seemed right at the dish for about 2 months aside from roughly about a 5-game span that ended about a week ago. I know he went to Driveline over the break to fix his swing. But yeah, I was still super surprised they stayed with the lefty there only to bring on Bednar for the next batter anyway.
August 4, 2026 at 8:38 pm #315348No home runs tonight equals no runs. The Yankees hit two out for 2 runs. This series has been all about the home run thus far.
Ferguson looked solid in his debut. Good fastball with a couple wrinkles. He’s probably lefty #1 for us ahead of Bruihl.
August 4, 2026 at 8:58 pm #315349The test for Dobbins is can he turn in pretty good starts consistently. If so, he will be in play next spring.
August 4, 2026 at 9:16 pm #315351Maybe the problem with Herrera is that he’s just not very good?

ParticipantCould be rat, could be.
August 4, 2026 at 10:14 pm #315357Ivan is about a 2 war player this season. Sure some of that is weighted by early success. Which isn’t great but on the cusp of ok.
Maybe the workload is getting to him. Been primarily injury free this season. Without looking at his numbers he’s got to be reaching a games played and PA for his entire major and minor league career. Idk just spitballing here.
