Assad has always been tough against the Cardinals or at least that is my impression. Hopefully we can get to him today.

Slow OF play by Noot costs the first Cubs run. Tied 1-1 in B4th.

Another strong outing from Pallante. 6 1/3 IP, 1 run allowed with a runner on first base.

PCA missed that Soriano high heat by a good foot. Yes I saw PCA’s 10th inning dinger last night, but there certainly are signs that he’s heading for a cooling off period. Nobody in this league has hot streaks as sizzling as PCA…..but no player has frigid streaks on par with him either.

A strong outing, yes, but I wonder about the definition of “another”. His last five game scores have been:

    80 today
    47
    27
    60
    35

The inherited run scores with Soriano pitching. Without another comeback, Andre is on the line for a tough loss.

Was hoping they would have brought that BB machine Thornton into this game. Only down a run here in the bottom of the 7th where The Ferminator opens the inning with a lazy fly ball to Happ in left……now JJ gets his teeth into one to right……and it’s long long gone…..tie ballgame.

What is Game Score? Is that one of those new stats? 😉

Last time out, Pallante threw seven innings of shutout ball on two hits with eight Ks. Yes, he has been inconsistent, but his season ERA is one of the best in the rotation. In 2026, he has been better than almost anyone expected (including me).

    Plenty of positives.

Folks will say Andre was bad today if he takes the loss, regardless of the offense.

Never mind that since JJ just homered making Pallante back in the ok category despite him not doing anything else.

However, Wetherholt is bad because .254 isn’t .280.

I guess we have no choice but to trot Stanek out here to pitch the 8th…..poor Oli…..and poor us. Well maybe I’m being too hard on him and he’ll pitch well here……let’s hope.

Speaking of new stats, Pallante’s xFIP of 3.99 coming into today is second-best on the staff after May at 3.89.

Look at that advertisement for Fredbird Plush……I could picture it sitting right in between Rat and Whitey HerDog on the couch taking in the ballgames. If Rat plays his cards right then maybe we should pitch in and get him one for Christmas.

In other more important happenings, another close game. Cards could end up splitting this series. Wouldnt have thought that after the first two games.

Herrera opens the Redbird Plush 8th with a scorching single to center off Hollowell.

Thank goodness that was Torres in left instead of Nelson to catch PCA’s sinking liner.

If we end up dealing O’Brien, we better get something special in return. I think he’s probably staying put.

Two walkoffs within a 24 hour period vs our arch rivals would be very nice.

I apologize Willie for continuing to poke at you and others. You have consistently maintained that JJ is just “ok”.

Hitting leadoff, walking over 10% of the time, striking out under 16% of the time, getting on base at about a 35% clip, hitting 9% above league average as a young rookie, running a positive WAR in baserunning, playing statistically the 5th best defense in all of baseball, hitting 16 homers as a 2nd baseman, and running the 11th best overall FWAR in baseball all while running a below average batting average on balls in play, suggesting that he’s been unlucky and probably is better than he’s shown.

We will see if he can come through here . . . Come on JJ!

The Ferminator has quite the eye black display on his face……he’s looking more like Arnold every day…….he just needs to start pumping iron a few hours a day.
