What outfielders will do for applause. Lane Thomas in no way whatsoever had to go to the turf in catching Velasquez’ fly ball. It’s understandable how some of the fans in attendance fall for the fake-fall…….but the broadcasters too? Watching the Royals telecast and they were commenting how Thomas robbed Velasquez…..where do they find these guys?
Might be time to seriously contemplate sending Libby to the pen for some long, but not too long, relieving duties.

But just the thought of those delicious Popeye’s apple cinnamon pies drives me crazy……almost to the same degree that Cheryl Tiegs had me back in the day. Now wouldn’t that be the ultimate combo. A scantily clad Cheryl Tiegs on one arm and a scrumptious Popeye’s apple cinnamon pie going from hand to mouth on the other.
The Caray clan seem to be an amiable bunch, but I still anxiously await the next Caray who is a near carbon copy of Harray. Yes I know, they probably literally broke the mold after Harry’s birth, but if any person on this earth is going to even closely resemble Harry in both mind and spirit, it’s going to come from their own bloodlines. Let’s hope young Stefan here is that man. If not, then I have little doubt that the Caray clan will continue their quest to birth the next great Harry Caray.
What’s for din-din tonight one may ask? It’ll be a trip on over to Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse for a medium rare ribeye bone-in steak, broccoli, baked potato lathered in butter and sour cream and then for dessert, a cruise through Popeye’s drive thru lane to snag myself not 1……not 2…….not even 3…..but 4 of their scrumptious apple cinnamon pies…….as the esteemed Rat might say “yummy yummy”.
You are 100% correct, Cardinals27. It didn’t really hit me until about a month into the season, but the improved accuracy of calling the balls and strikes is nothing short of astounding……even with that home plate ump we had the other night whom accrued a huge batch of challenges skewing those accuracy percentages a bit. Gone are the days of having umps whom have their own interpretation of the strike zone. No more low pitch or high pitch favoring arbiters. And now that their judgements can immediately be brought into question, these umps have to be “on the ball” with each and every pitch.
Pallante perfect through 3. Maybe tonight’s the night we finally get our first perfecto since……? Maybe Dizzy Dean days?
Humor aside and on a more serious note, with that “band of showers” making a beeline straight from St. Louis towards Rat’s place in SW Indiana, let us all urge Rat and Whitey HerDog to baton down the hatches and take immediate cover in the basement…….don’t forget to take a Via Palma Grande El Presidente 7×50 cigar and a large bone for the pooch…..you guys could be down there for awhile, Rat.
Nice Carrion call out, Albert. Carlos Antonio Carrion. Skinny rascal at 6’1 150lbs. But 150lbs. was the Wizard’s playing weight throughout his distinguished career. Ozzie was 2 inches shorter, so if this youngster from Santo Domingo can add about 10 lbs, he’ll be a bit larger version of the Wizard in physique.
Last night’s gem wasn’t all that dissimilar from his performance to a game I saw May pitch in Milwaukee earlier this year. He had a no-no going in that one too and whiffed 9 with no walks, but the Crew ended up clipping us late. We old timers gleefully recall how John Tudor pitched for us after coming over via trade. Well, May could possibly be poised to do likewise. If this team continues it’s solid play and is nestled in the midst of playoff contention, there is no way that the Cardinals will trade May at the deadline. To do so would send a terrible message to the team, especially it’s young impressionable players. Not that they would abandon the plan and go on a spending spree, but they will not throw the towel in on the fantastic play that the team has unexpectedly put forth.
Last month we could have received a decent prospect or two for the services of Romero and O’Brien. As it stands now we would get virtually nothing remotely resembling quality in return. Heck they may not even get us the ever mundane PTBNL. May is a totally different story, but I’d hate to lose him when we’re pitching starved as it is.
Gassy’s(Gastelum)pitching attributes are highly suited for success at the next level. Please trust me when I say that Gassy is one of the key components to righting our fledgling bullpen’s teetering ship. At this point I’m not exactly sure where he fits in the pen……but by golly he fits.
Whew! Have been waiting anxiously all day for Rat’s weather report and am most happy that the coast is clear for us getting tonight’s game in without any meteorological interruptions.
With KeepComingBack in the house, I have little, if any doubt, that our boys will be on their game’s this evening. With this in mind, I think our Homer Happy Redbirds will win this one going away by the score of 11-4 with Jimmy Lee Crooks ramrodding a high deep drive that this ballpark of ours has no hopes whatsoever of containing.
Was mildly disappointed that I received nary a response yesterday to my question as to if anyone had tried the trout over at Cracker Barrel. But I’m rolling the din-din dice in a couple of hours and heading on over there to give her a go. I’ll most likely partner that trout up with their hash brown casserole, candied apples and sourdough bread with butter and strawberry jam. Then on the way hope I’ll swing on by Popeye’s drive thru lane to snag myself 3 of their scrumptious apple cinnamon pies.
And the question begs to be asked. Will there be a Via Palma El Presidente 7×50 Cuban cigar or two in the equation this evening whilst Rat and Whitey HerDog enjoy the ballgames?
Looks like Rat is getting an early jump on his din-din planning for tomorrow. Knowing Rat, I bet he’s also already delved into the Doppler radar maps and weather flow charts so to give us the meteorological lowdown for tomorrow’s game. You’re one in a million, Rat.
Nearly missed the later part of this thread. Very sorry to read of your tremendous loss, TD! I definitely believe something awaits us after death. I think that great people such as TD will have many wonderful companions in the hereafter. And those of us who have not been kind in life will suffer from eternal loneliness. I think we are all in for a surprise.
The Rockies and A’s were tied 5-5 after 2 innings. It’s now 23-9 Colorado in the 8th. I think this one qualifies as a slugfest.

Cardinal in France always thinking of great food. I haven’t had trout in ages, but thanks to Cardinal in France, I will be having some this coming week. I think Cracker Barrel has trout. Anyone here ever tried it?
Drop 2-3 in Minnesota, but return home to hopefully rough those Padres up again. Should have swept them 3 straight in San Diego earlier this year, but couldn’t seal the deal in the 9th of Game 3. I cannot recall the circumstances or events of that loss other than it was a toughie to lose.
Can’t blame this challenge on our home plate ump. And unfortunately the call at 1st base is overturned and Fermin has to make a detour back to his dugout vs around the bases.
