Gastelum looked sharp today. Maybe his best outing of the year.

Man, what was Jordan thinking? Two strike pitch right there and he watches it “like the house on the side of the road” as Ernie Harrell used to say.

    Big game for Walker today.

Hey, maybe Walker is getting his mojo back.

They gave Báez a steady diet of curveballs today.

Walker is really strong going the other way. I like seeing him do that as his problem had been swinging over those pitches on the outer half. All he has to do is square those up and they have a chance to go.

Really glad Ollie moved him back to a run producing slot.

Graceffo shaky, but with a 9 run lead in the 8th, now 8, not too much to stress about.

We have a doubleheader tomorrow and don’t have another off day until next Monday. The bullpen is going to get taxed. I would brought Graceffo back out for the ninth.

Yeah, I was surprised they did not keep Graceffo out there in a blowout, with a heavy load coming up.

That play at first looks like the old thing we used to say as kids, “tie goes to the runner.”

I thought the runner was safe but we will take it. Not sure why it took them five minutes to decide in an eight run game.

Looked safe to me as well – took way too long to decide though.

And that’s your ball game. Nice series win
as the bats really came alive after the shutout Friday.

Nice win. That is a quality job getting the series win over a good team like that. For some reason our team has looked better on the road this year.

There was a clip of one of the homers where it looked like a big long swing like is typical of minor leaguers who put mistakes in the parking lot, but who get owned by ML pitching. Not saying that is what he is, just one look at one swing.

I made that observation this morning. I missed the game today, but looks like Baez got owned. Welcome to the show.

Baez should be the left-fielder for the rest of the year.

Baez should be the left-fielder for the rest of the year.

He likely doesn’t start a game tomorrow. We already know they will keep his abs down below 130 to keep his rookie status in place if we have season next year. That is the smart move.

I don’t know if he will skip both games tomorrow but yes he is going to have to miss one or two games a week to stay below 130 AB’s.

No one said he was going to hit three homers a game. My guess is he is going to struggle against RH’s but do well against LH’s. As he matures hopefully things will level out some like it has for Walker.

Kudos to Oli & Co. for staying with Gassy during his initial subpar performances. This makes 3 straight nice outings out of the pen. Gassy has filthy stuff and now that he has his control issues harnessed, he’ll be very enjoyable to watch.

Who at the beginning of the season could have foreseen both Burly and Walker with 120 rbi campaigns? It’ll be close, but I think both have a shot at it.

We saw it last year with Graceffo. Sometimes you need a look and adjust.

Juat keep winning series. All they can do.

Baez will likely hit .200, homer now and again and strikeout a ton. They will play him but Perrera will see time as well. Like the team direction.

Wondering about a Burly extension. He’s a good hitter. ABC raving about him.

The idea of extending Burly is growing on me.

I was not a big fan of Burly early on, as he seemed too one-dimensional. But the way he has handled first base, and can hit to all fields, well he is just a solid player.

He and Walker at 3 and 4 is some good punch. If Baez ends up being a 30 homer guy then we really have something. We will see how things shake out over the coming seasons.

I like Burly a lot too and I’m glad the Cardinals were not tempted to let him go for a couple of sometime-down-the-road maybes. Walker seems to have finally risen to Cardinal expectations, though he just won’t give up on chasing those low outside pitches. And if Baez blossoms into Saturday Baez rather than Sunday Baez and JJ can raise his BA (I know most of you no longer believe in BA) by 30 or 40 points, that would be a hell of a nice opening lineup.
