Release Liberatore, he’s never going to make it and they’d save him the humiliation of getting bombed on the mound. I’m sure his parents are saying now he was adopted.
Welcome back Nate! If getting drilled 12-3 in the City of Brotherly Love and then just 2 games later getting hammered 13-1 by the relatively hapless O’s in our own park doesn’t bring Nate out of seclusion, then nothing will.
Probably facing Christopher Michael Bassitt (aka “C-Bass”) tonight, who hauls down a cool 21MM per anum. Our young bats should be able to solve C-Bass’ offerings this evening. Let’s call it 7-3 Birds with Burly & Baez finding the cheap seats with bat in hand.
Din-din tonight will be breakfast for Din-din. Stepping up to the plate will be 3 medium poached eggs over 2 pieces of white toast, smothered in butter and salt & pepper. On deck will be all beef sausage links and baby red potatoes dipped into catsup. Then rounding 3rd and heading on home with be a huge piece of homemade coffee cake graced with extra brown sugar.
I vividly recall my excitement the first time Nolan Gorman was summoned to the bigs from Memphis. Unfortunately this recall today doesn’t move my emotional needle a smidgen.
Meltdowns hurt. Losing a 1 run lead in the 9th is one thing, but coughing up a 4 run advantage is pretty darn lame. On the plus side, once again our young team fared pretty well against an elite pitcher. They had Sanchez beat and let it slip away. I’ll have to go back and check this year’s box scores, but other than the 2 games vs Mizorowski, I think we’ve fared pretty darn well vs opposition Aces.
I haven’t seen Rat’s greater Philadelphia meteorological report for today’s game, so I’m unsure how to plan my day yet. Over the years, I have learned to trust Rat’s weather reports…..and Rat’s only. If Rat writes that there will be a lot of “green stuff” encroaching Veterans Stadium today, then I’ll forego the game and head on up to the Del-Bar in the Wisconsin Dells for din-din. I’m super anxious to see Matthews pitch today, so I hope the “green stuff” stays away. This is a game that we should win. I’m calling it 7-4 Birds with JJ playing a little long ball to the tune of a majestic tater into the outfield shrubbery.
This season is quite odd for me in that other than losing to the cubbies, losses don’t really bother me. It’s as obvious as the nose on Jimmy Durante’s face that the future is extremely bright for our Cardinals.
McFarlane pitching the 10th and The Ferminator lines a 1 out single to left scoring the sissy runner from 2nd…..6-5 Birds.
* Not referring to Burly as a sissy…..not his fault MLB installed that silly ghost runner rule.
Gassy is downright filthy! Whiffs Schwarber to commence the 9th. Then he promptly whiffs Turner……this long haired gem is near unhittable.
Gets Harper to ground out softly to 2nd to retire the side. To extras we go.
JJ with a nice throw from the seat of his pants to retire the Phillies in the 8th. We need Baez to go downtown again here in the 9th.
Remember some of those 55-0 and 62-3 scores very well. Nebraska with Osborne and Oklahoma with Barry Switzer had some dandy battles back in the day.
Cards show Luzardo the door with 2 down in the 6th with a runner situated at 1st……Mayza the new Phillies hurler….and Periera greets him with a liner into right-center for a hit. But Torres grounds out 2-3 to retire the side.
Not bad grub for hospital din-dinery, Booyah. Hope you’re better soon so you can bust on out of there.
Cards bat in the 6th in a 3-2 Philadelphia ballgame. A Baez 2 run tater to right accounting for the two Redbird tallies. Luzardo has been a KO fiend thus far whiffing 9……..oh Nelli thar she blows!……Jordan whacks #27 to deep right with a man aboard and just like that the Birds catapult themselves into a 4-3 advantage.
Make it 3 straight years, Rat. I’m calling it Tigers 33 Wildcats 17. Yet another spot-on meteorological report, Rat! On a Friday night during baseball season, it’s hard to believe that only 2 of us are having catfish fiddlers for din-din.
This is a rare game where I don’t have the foggiest idea who is going to come away with the “W”. But I do see The Dobster going 5 2/3 inning strong, yielding just 2 runs on 5 hits. I’m starting to get a little worried with Baez’ power outage. Is Wrigley Field the only ML park that he can put his power on full display? Or maybe it’s just the cubbies that has him seeing red? If so then maybe we are looking at a player that pops 18 dingers a year…..all against those north siders from the Windy City.
Toss caution to the wind and go with your new grill, stlcard25. I won’t be on Lake Michigan this weekend, so it’ll be some tantalizingly tasty catfish fiddlers instead of a fish boil for din-din. It’ll be accompanied by some hush puppies, cole slaw and Hawaii din-din rolls.
Love games in the City of Brotherly Love. About 18 years ago I flew to Philly to take in a 3 game series and had the time of my life. After each game I found my way over to this neighborhood tavern that was always teeming with fellow baseball fans. I even wore my Cardinals cap and encountered nothing but love……..Exhibit A as to why they call it “The City of Brotherly Love”.
Cory Rasmus’ daughter. Her grandfather (Tony) was quite the prolific poster in these waters when Colby was with the organization. We could be looking at the first woman MLB player here.
On a bright note, Gassy was once again flawless. Now that he’s settled in, he’s mowing down batters with the greatest of ease. Glad he’s on our side!
Sammy Moll center stage for the Redlegs, as the Cardinals bat here in the 6th. Libby simply marvelous through 5, surrendering just 1 hit and no walks while whiffing 8.
You can hear a pin drop on this thread. Looks like the dog days of summer are taking it’s toll on Redbird fans.
Thought we had a chance to chase this Cincy righty in the 4th, but Jordan didn’t come through. Still 2 runs were nice, with Burns only having one more inning in him due to his pitch count over 80.
Not the complete comprehensive meteorological report that Rat usually spoils us with………bet we’ll take it.

3. Uecker & anyone
4. Curt Gowdy & Tony KubekAs much as I hate the cubs, I absolutely cherished watching Harry and Steve call the action. My announcing dream team would have been Harry & Uecker occupying the same booth.
On paper our odds of success tonight look pretty bleak. But we seem to fare pretty well vs opposition Aces. I certainly wouldn’t plop down any moolah on our boys tonight, but wouldn’t be shocked if we came away victorious.
