MLB had to do this. The media would have hounded MLB to death over it. Besides, almost all baseball players are millennials, and our young people have embraced the tenets of the political left. There would have been some players who would have boycotted the All-Star Game.

As a result of this MLB and it’s employees (i.e. the players) won’t be getting any of Game Card’s money, and there are millions like him.

Why not let pets in Georgia vote? One bark or meow means ‘yes’ and two barks, or meows, means ‘no’. The pet owner can fill out the ballot for the pet and send it in as an absentee ballot.

Hockey has been impacted by COVID. Certain players have been out with the sickness and quarantined. It’s surprising that spring training for baseball players has not been affected more than it has. The only thing that comes to mind is a very few players having to start late because of COVID. I’m going to say that the MLB season is going to be only mildly affected given the league’s experience with COVID, and the fact that the vaccine is becoming more and more obtainable. I’d say that there is a only a low possibility that it will have any effect on division races.

Not to start a political argument, but in my opinion, this current flu bug is a super-flu not unlike the Hong Kong flu, the bird flu, this flu, and that flu. These super-flus happen every so often and they’re going to keep happening. I’d be willing to bet that, when this current ‘pandemic’ is finally declared over, somebody is going to do a survey that shows, miraculously, that there were 150,000 less deaths from heart disease, another 150,000 less deaths from diabetes, another 150,000 less deaths from ‘other’, and so on. I’m sick and tired of hearing about COVID. Nobody is going to die from this current super-flu that doesn’t already have something else seriously wrong with them. Let’s just move on.

Whew! C27, you scared me by bringing this thread back up to the top of the list.

It sure will be a feel-good story if this kid finally makes it in MLB long term.

They haven’t done very well with any of the Latino players that they got out of the International pool. I think they’ve changed their strategy, and I’m not positive about this, but I think they used to wait for a certain signing day, and then along with the other clubs, hurry up and sign as many International players as they have money for. Now it looks like they’re out in there in Latin America scouting for players that they think have the best chance, then signing each one that they can. In other words, IMO, they’re looking for talent they can develop rather than listening to the hype and worrying about the players’ demands while waiting for the deadline to sign players.

I’m not set on Ponce de Leon, either, although I would say he has improved quite a bit over the last two years. I don’t even particularly like him for long relief. That said, I wish him well.

As they say ‘One man’s misfortune is another man’s treasure’. Looks like Thomas is not going to be penalized for having a somewhat mediocre spring. Sure hope Bader’s arm is okay. I had no idea that he’s been toughing it out with an ailing forearm all spring.

It’s surprising that Jhon Torres keeps moving up even though his stats have never been great and he didn’t make the practice squad in 2020. The scouts must like how he looks.

He’s pitching better than Ponce de Leon has pitched this spring.

I don’t think it can happen, but, IMHO, Bader could use a few weeks at AAA to get used to his new batting style.

When Bader is OPSing .820 and striking out at a 15% clip in August, both bccran and mudville will be passing around the ‘Baderade’ to other members of the Bader Fan Club. No doubt about it.

They’ll most likely trade Sosa if they can’t keep him because Rondon outperforms him.

Bader sure looked different at the plate today. No strikeouts. I don’t think he gook a swing at that down and away slider once. He put the ball in play with every AB. This is much more interesting than that power swing-and-miss that was becoming his hallmark. Hope it leads to something big for him and his fans.

The psychology bb brought up is real. But it counts much more when you’re trying to win games than it does for something like spring training.

This is a wake up call to Junior Fernandez. He should have shown up at ST better prepared, IMO.

I’d like to see Tommy Parsons developed as a starter.

What’s it going to be like if Delvin Perez keeps doing what he’s been doing on the back fields and emerges as a star player at the major league level?

Justin Williams had 2 hits yesterday including a HR. He’s competing to make the team, but I don’t think there’s any serious consideration of him in a starting role.

I thought that first hit that O’Neill got was impressive. Nothing fancy. He reached down for a CB and just knocked it over the second baseman’s head. If he can do that with any kind of consistency, he’ll hit for average on top of the expected power.

Tommy Parsons is looking pretty good so far. For me, he seems to have come out of nowhere. He could turn out to be one of the real surprises of spring training. Here’s an article by Rob Rains from February, 2020:

Cranny, you are taking a lot of unnecessary hits. I wonder how that got started?! You’re entitled to say whatever you want as long as it’s within the posting rules. But what’s going on here is kind of like bullying, IMO.

MO did allude to that, and if that’s true, then the Rays weren’t ‘zeroing in’ on Arozarena. I have always believed that what the Rays were really after was what they initially said they were after, a cheap, right—hand DH. They paid a pretty steep price to get one. (I hope Jose Martinez sticks with the Mets. I always liked him.)

BTW, let’s see how RA does after the scouts pick apart his swing.

My impressions from the first spring training game….

I thought Gant looked like he could join any rotation and win 15 games. Nice to have him for long relief. He wants to be a starting pitcher though, and IMO, he deserves the opportunity to start if he can keep it up all spring. I wonder if he could be trade bait.

Edman looks like he belongs. We may see some star power emerging from him in the months ahead.

O’Neill looks ready to take on an every day player role.

    Then there’s Reyes ………….

Just sayin’………… After reading Matt Thompson’s scouting report again, I feel reassured that there will be a roster spot for Lane Thomas and Austin Dean. IMHO, the only way Williams makes the team is if shows something in spring training that he’s never shown before. Seems unlikely. If Dean doesn’t impress, they will no doubt make a trade for an outfielder.

Tommy Edman is a factor when considering the future of second base. He’s a gamer, and he might very well OPS over .800.
