jj-cf-stlParticipantWhew. Gonna have to pinch run for Pages.
July 20, 2024 at 2:52 pm #260978There’s your rabbit JJ. Lots of extra inning games of late. Here we go again.
July 20, 2024 at 2:53 pm #260979Ollie didn’t pinch hit for him so I doubt he pinch runs for him either.
July 20, 2024 at 2:54 pm #260980
jj-cf-stlParticipantEscaped his own drama.
July 20, 2024 at 2:55 pm #260982Siani gets pinch hit for. Pages remains the runner. Now Carpenter needs a big hit.
July 20, 2024 at 2:56 pm #260983
jj-cf-stlParticipantI like the Carp PH for Siani.
July 20, 2024 at 2:57 pm #260984I think I’d have let Siani hit. Try to bunt him over while getting a hit. It’s a good result either way. But with the way this guy throws his curve, perhaps the bunt would have been challenging.
July 20, 2024 at 2:57 pm #260985
jj-cf-stlParticipantOil is playing for two or more runs. He could have sac bunted Siani.
July 20, 2024 at 2:57 pm #260986Carp gets struck out on a really great pitch.
July 20, 2024 at 2:59 pm #260988
jj-cf-stlParticipantLift it Burly
July 20, 2024 at 3:00 pm #260989Winn with a solid single. I’m not sure if even Siani would have scored on that one had he been the runner.
July 20, 2024 at 3:02 pm #260990
jj-cf-stlParticipantCrap, DP
July 20, 2024 at 3:02 pm #260991Wow. Lines right to the first baseman at the bag to double off Winn. Nothing he could do. Now trouble is on the horizon.
July 20, 2024 at 3:06 pm #260992I still can’t figure out why teams don’t sac-bunt every time. I’d lay one down with Gehrig standing in.
July 20, 2024 at 3:08 pm #2609931TD – I think they will every time when they are in this situation – bottom of the inning and tied. But in other situations, it can be a toss up as to whether it improves your odds or not.
July 20, 2024 at 3:11 pm #260995And the Braves win on a medium length sac fly. We had a lot of hits. The Braves didn’t. But we couldn’t get them in sequence and they hit a 2-run homer. That’s baseball.
July 20, 2024 at 3:13 pm #260997
jj-cf-stlParticipantDifferent inning if Siani makes the final out, and is the ghost runner. It fell badly for us.
Fine start by Gibson.July 20, 2024 at 3:15 pm #260998I’m not sure if Siani scores or not on that Winn hit. It would have been close. It would have depended on his jump. But yeah, no chance for Pages.
July 20, 2024 at 3:19 pm #260999
jj-cf-stlParticipantIt would have avoided the PH appearance and straight to the top of the order. Shoulda, woulda, coulda.
July 20, 2024 at 3:21 pm #261000Hernandez instead of Kittredge with a 2 run lead? Roycroft pitching in the 10th? Pages as the runner at second base in extra innings? Oli really had to dumb down in order to lose this one.
July 20, 2024 at 3:25 pm #261001Fernandez has been better than Kittredge in mostly equal innings. Plus he’s seen a fair share of stressful innings.
Roycroft was the right call too. Why waste Helsley when they just need to bunt and sac fly to win? Even if he escaped the inning, now you’ve burned him and it’s still tied and it’s 50/50 whether you’ll still lose (or a little worse since you’re on the road). I’d rather use Helsley when you know he can win it rather than when all you know is he might be able to extend it.
July 20, 2024 at 3:27 pm #261002What do you mean? He’s the one and only illustrious whiz-kid.
July 20, 2024 at 3:28 pm #261003With a fresh bullopen our genious manager goes with a rookie and the game is tied and then in the bottom of the 10 goes with another rookie and we lose. he has been doing that all season and getting away with it but over time things even out.
Not downing the two young guys. They have performed well but how does it make sense to not use your proven bullpen guys with a late lead.
Also to me it is irritating that he removes so many pitchers in the middle of an inning. Gibson has a 2-0 lead and watches it vanish out of his control with a rookie pitcher replacing him. How do you think it makes him feel.
Iwonder if Ollie loves to go out on the field. Many managers make pitching changes at the beginning of an inning. But when you make a change with a runneror two on you are jeapardizing the removed pitchers era and record. They get salary increases and new contracts based on those records.
Just poor decisions.
July 20, 2024 at 3:49 pm #261004Jnevel is correct. Fernandez has been great this year but it just didn’t work out today. His numbers are better than Kitty actually. And you don’t burn Helsley with the score tied especially on a DH day. Oli didn’t lose the game. Our players just didn’t come through.
July 20, 2024 at 4:05 pm #261005This loss is a direct result of Burleson absolutely scorching the baseball directly into Olson’s 1B mitt for the DP…What on earth was he thinking?
