Are there any SP’ers who are members of the HOF that have a career W/L pct. that is below .500? I can’t think of any.
July 29, 2024 at 5:06 pm #262120Well, Mikolas is now our #5 SP, which is how he has performed the last 1 1/2 years.
July 29, 2024 at 5:09 pm #262121Going by nothing more than track record, I’ll take both Mikolas and Lynn over the new guy in an important turn.

jj-cf-stlParticipantThe Dodgers know they just traded for a proven 4war player.
July 29, 2024 at 5:10 pm #262123They also know they just improved their chances to accomplish their goal.
July 29, 2024 at 5:13 pm #262124
jj-cf-stlParticipantTommy going home, just like Bader did.
July 29, 2024 at 5:28 pm #2621251TD, I don’t think there are any SPs in HOF with a sub .500 record. There are a few with a win % under .540. Nolan Ryan and Phil Niekro are 2. Gaylord Perry had a .542 W-L%. That is just a quick look.
July 29, 2024 at 5:31 pm #262126
jj-cf-stlParticipantGray started Friday. Gibson and Fedde started Saturday, Mikolas started Sunday.
July 29, 2024 at 5:37 pm #262128Yeah, I couldn’t think of any, Forsch. I was guessing there was the possibility of a guy who was both a long time SP’er and a RP’er along the lines of someone such as Eckersley, but I can’t readily come up with any names. At any rate, let’s not forget that the guy who holds the all time record for career losses is named Cy Young…Haha!
July 29, 2024 at 6:09 pm #262136forsch & 1td, you guys are forgetting about Tommy Lasorda. He had an awful ERA to boot. How’d he ever make it? Plus, he pitched to Jack Clark, lol.
July 29, 2024 at 6:18 pm #262137Haha!…And if he’d have pitched when they had guys like BEVACQUA, he’d have paid a limosine to drive him to the ball park to make sure he was in the *$%^#&^% ing lineup because he’d have kicked his %^#!(%$!@#% any day of the week…Cause he’s a @$^#&*%&@ ing big mouth…
July 29, 2024 at 6:28 pm #262141Pham has been with 8 different teams. Doesn’t that say something about the guy? The Cardinals drafted him in 2006 and futz around with him and his various physical impairments including his back and his eyes for
8 years. Then, when he finally started looking like he was ready to give something back, he jumped ship via free agency and badmouthed the organization on the way out. I’m inclined to agree that they got Pham to fill Carlson’s role. If Carlson is about to get traded, it must be a trade that they really like in order to be willing to take on a player like Pham.July 29, 2024 at 6:31 pm #262142Good stuff, 1td. To me, it’s still worth the time about once a year to spend about an hour on YouTube watching clips of Lasorda, Ditka, Knight, etc.
July 29, 2024 at 6:33 pm #262143mud, Pham was traded by the Cardinals to the Rays for Genesis Cabrera, Justin Williams and Roel Ramirez.
July 29, 2024 at 6:36 pm #262144That one with Tommy is one of the all time greats along with the one in which the reporter asks Tommy, “What did he think of Kingman’s performance”…Haha! Those two are right up there with the civilized Earl Weaver/Bill Haller discussion about a questionable balk…Haha!
July 29, 2024 at 6:38 pm #262145I never thought Pham would be back in StLouis Thats why I dont gamble. Im not a fan but it’s personal. I do have one question. Why did we have to wait 2/3 of the season to get a useful bench player.
July 29, 2024 at 6:38 pm #262146I mentioned earlier in this thread that if I were a baseball team I’d rather take on a root canal than to take on Tommy Pham.
July 29, 2024 at 6:43 pm #262147Not if he can hit lefties 1td.

The Dodgers know they just traded for a proven 4war player.Edman and Fedde have the same number of seasons with a WAR above 4.0.
July 29, 2024 at 6:45 pm #262150Edman is an excellent player. He will make the Dodgers better. I am now a Dodger fan.
July 29, 2024 at 6:48 pm #262151Yeah GameCard, if he helps it’ll be good. We’ll see what happens with the Phamster.

July 29, 2024 at 6:54 pm #262153Have the sneaking suspicion that this trade today would never have occurred if Mo would only have parted with Gorman in a trade for Cease this past winter. I’d feel a lot better about this deal if Fedde was 27 instead of 31.
July 29, 2024 at 7:03 pm #262156Pham plays with an edge to him that is exactly what this robotic team needs
July 29, 2024 at 7:53 pm #262167
jj-cf-stlParticipantTommy is a proven 4war player for his career (4.18/600 PA’s).
Fedde is a flash in the pan (21 GS). His salary could be very friendly his next 40-ish starts, if he maintains this effectiveness.
Many seem to think we didn’t send enough. For me, we sent plenty.
