Are there any SP’ers who are members of the HOF that have a career W/L pct. that is below .500? I can’t think of any.
Going by nothing more than track record, I’ll take both Mikolas and Lynn over the new guy in an important turn.
1TD, I don’t think there are any SPs in HOF with a sub .500 record. There are a few with a win % under .540. Nolan Ryan and Phil Niekro are 2. Gaylord Perry had a .542 W-L%. That is just a quick look.
Yeah, I couldn’t think of any, Forsch. I was guessing there was the possibility of a guy who was both a long time SP’er and a RP’er along the lines of someone such as Eckersley, but I can’t readily come up with any names. At any rate, let’s not forget that the guy who holds the all time record for career losses is named Cy Young…Haha!
forsch & 1td, you guys are forgetting about Tommy Lasorda. He had an awful ERA to boot. How’d he ever make it? Plus, he pitched to Jack Clark, lol.
Haha!…And if he’d have pitched when they had guys like BEVACQUA, he’d have paid a limosine to drive him to the ball park to make sure he was in the *$%^#&^% ing lineup because he’d have kicked his %^#!(%$!@#% any day of the week…Cause he’s a @$^#&*%&@ ing big mouth…
Pham has been with 8 different teams. Doesn’t that say something about the guy? The Cardinals drafted him in 2006 and futz around with him and his various physical impairments including his back and his eyes for
8 years. Then, when he finally started looking like he was ready to give something back, he jumped ship via free agency and badmouthed the organization on the way out. I’m inclined to agree that they got Pham to fill Carlson’s role. If Carlson is about to get traded, it must be a trade that they really like in order to be willing to take on a player like Pham.Good stuff, 1td. To me, it’s still worth the time about once a year to spend about an hour on YouTube watching clips of Lasorda, Ditka, Knight, etc.
mud, Pham was traded by the Cardinals to the Rays for Genesis Cabrera, Justin Williams and Roel Ramirez.
That one with Tommy is one of the all time greats along with the one in which the reporter asks Tommy, “What did he think of Kingman’s performance”…Haha! Those two are right up there with the civilized Earl Weaver/Bill Haller discussion about a questionable balk…Haha!
I never thought Pham would be back in StLouis Thats why I dont gamble. Im not a fan but it’s personal. I do have one question. Why did we have to wait 2/3 of the season to get a useful bench player.
I mentioned earlier in this thread that if I were a baseball team I’d rather take on a root canal than to take on Tommy Pham.

Edman is an excellent player. He will make the Dodgers better. I am now a Dodger fan.That’s crazyyyyyy!
Have the sneaking suspicion that this trade today would never have occurred if Mo would only have parted with Gorman in a trade for Cease this past winter. I’d feel a lot better about this deal if Fedde was 27 instead of 31.
