This is so unfair to Jose Martinez that it makes me sick.

Its worth noting that the BP people were able to come up with a reasonable explanation for’Why He Might Fail’ for every player on the list, except Carson Kelly. The BP apparently could not find a rational explanation for why Carson Kelly might fail. I sure hope we don’t trade Kelly. To me. that would be like if the Green Bay Packers traded Aaron Rodgers because they already had a 39 year-old Brett Favre who can still play.

Its hard for me to imagine the Cardinals taking on that kind of contract for any player, ever. But then, stranger things have happened. What a different team this would be if they acquired Stanton and Donaldson! They have the trade pieces to do it, IMO. But it might too much for them to carry long term. Donaldson is likely going to want Stanton money, and that’s close to 30M/yr.

I suspect that the Cardinals are not going to offer Carson Kelly in any deal, and that will pretty much put the brakes on any big trade like Donaldson, especially since he’s a rental. With the kind of numbers he’s posted in Toronto, its a sure bet that he will want 25-30M/yr. when he hits free agency. Its hard to imagine the Cardinals going that high for any player.

BTW, I am not in the ‘fire Matheny’ corner. I just wish he would figure it out.

If they are negotiating with the Jays for Donaldson, they should keep in mind that, if Donaldson comes to the Cardinals, he will be playing 1B, outfield, and probably 2B, besides 3B. Also, it is highly unlikely that he will ever approach the kind of production he has accomplished for the Jays. Every player on this team except Tommy Pham is underachieving, and it seems likely that Donaldson will underachieve, also.

Neither do I. But I do think DeJong gets to more balls than Diaz did.

If we trade Lynn, I want it to be for a true upper echelon prospect like Torres or Robles plus other top prospects. I don’t want to trade Lynn for any good, but not elite, prospects. We have plenty of those already. I don’t want to trade Lynn and then have to hear people say ‘We were going to lose him anyway, so at least we got something’. If we can’t get a truly exceptional prospect, then lets not trade Lynn. Lets take the additional draft pick after Competitive Balance Round B. This next draft is supposed to be deep.

I watched the Brewers playing the Orioles today on TV. The Brewers are young, talented, and they’re playing like they’re hungry and want to win.

Ryan Franklin and Mitchell Boggs were two pretty good closers for awhile. Then, they self-destructed, never to return to form. Hope that’s not happening to Rosenthal.
