Well since Fowler seems to be an undeserved target (my opinon) lets talk about Thomas and his flying non-catch where he turned his glove toward the wall before the ball even arrived. Some days our most touted players turn out to be human huh? He needs some Bader flying training.
They did show a shot of Fowler chasing the ball which did a double corner bank and he had to go toward the infield to get it. I think he did a fair job of fielding it – no big delay and the throw to 3b was nearly in time to tag Thames out.

<Front Row Amy has long dark hair and usually – but not always – shows off her assets. As you watch the game on TV she will be to the left, in the front row. You cant miss them, I mean, her.>Thanks Rats. The camera never got up above her chin so I didn’t get a good luck but the gal next to her was showing the same kind of assets that Amy was showing last season. The gal in blue did not seem to have any prominent assets but I will admit that the camera work was lousy…..LOL
Also notice that the Brewers CF camera goes directly over the pitcher to the plate. When the pitch is thrown the pitchers head is clear of the plate area and the viewer gets a good look at the balls placement in (or out) of the Zone. FSMW used to do this at Busch but changed it because they said the pitchers head interferred with the picture. So they moved the camera slightly to the right of the pitcher and that does skew the actual view of the plate. You see left side curves that look like they never have a chance and all of a sudden they plop in the strike zone.
There is not an umpire alive who can consistently judge the low strike and many can’t judge a pitch to the opposite of the plate from which they are looking. Electronic strike zone must be put in effect soon because with gambling now legal on major league sports, the honesty of the HPU can be questioned more than previously. Just sayin. Also a check swing must be clearly defined. Danny Mac says there is no specific rule on it.
Jimmy Ballgame made an interesting comment about Thomas the last time he was playing center and it came true last night. To paraphrase he said that Thomas seems hesitant to dive for a ball hoping to catch it on a dead run. Last night in right field Thomas did dive and the replay showed it was not pretty. The dive effort was okay but he gave up on the catch by turning his glove away from the catch before the ball ever arrived. He looked like he was preparing for the landing. Maybe some Bader or Edmunds time would help him.
By now I hope Kolten is back in action so Edman can move over to 3B. Posting this in the blind after Carp has his sombrero game on Monday. Don’t expect much from him the rest of the way but any little thing will be appreciated.
Sure hope the offense can support Miles like they did a laboring Waino.
Waino sounded a bit ticked himself but taking 90 pitches in 4 2/3 innings is enough justification plus he had some real damage makers coming up. He was sounding ticked at Shildt but Shildt may have been only saving him more embarrassment.
Seems that MLB writers are not giving a rundown of the entire game any more. Ann Rogers, who didn’t even make the trip evidently, is like that. The Brewers guy does a much better job.
I like the way Shildt is running the pen. He is not using all his bullets in one game unless absolutely necessary and the guys who go multiple innings are getting some rest when needed. So today we will have Helsley, Brebbia, Martinez, Gallegos and possibly Miller readily available. I give credit to Mike Maddux for making a lot of this happen. The Brewers were lucky to get 5 out of Gio last night so they still have their hot shot lefty and Jeffress available for close games.

CARPS BACK………………………….oh wait.
Love to watch merry-go-round games, something we didn’t see in the first 4 months of this season.
Waino vs Gio – Like watching two guys fighting without gloves and both losing but their corner workers deciding the match.
Ozuna – Sign him man. Gscottar – his bad off season was because he resisted the surgery but I think Mo laid down the law and he went under the knife. This guy wants to stay a Cardinal and I agree with him.
Pitching – and I thought the Rockies had bad pitching. The Brewers next 11 games will be their end – 2 with Cards, 7 with Cubs, 2 with Astros.
Something not connected with this game: Pitchers won/loss records are BS because of the way they are determined. A guy can pitch 4.2 innings and not get a win but can get a loss while a guy can make one pitch and get a win. Is Mikolas really 7-13? Not much support from the offense in a lot of early and mid-season games, i.e, Flaherty.
<Use the Ozuna money on an upgrade elsewhere.>
I frankly hope there is no Ozuna money and that he is resigned. If necessary I could see ONeil or Thomas traded if needed for a blue chip player. But Ozuna is another one of those “A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.” He has taken two years to flourish as a Cardinal. No need to snuff him out now. How many teams are loaded with 5 high quality SPs. The Cards have two for sure and the probability of at least two more on board plus a couple still in the minors.
Hmmm, seems we have seen this matchup of pitchers before but Gio was on a different team. And Waino needed a lot of serious help in that one. Praise Kozma & Descalso.
Hello CIF. Don’t worry about the expense of those balls. I had the same concern but the ones that go to fans on fouls or toss in are well worth the expense. Many that are thrown out are sent to the ‘authenticator’ who documents them for what they are ‘foul ball’ or something like that. I am not sure how specific he gets but those game used balls are sold in the Cards store as I understand it. Anybody here know the procedure.

We have a PROVEN, Probable Gold Glove winning shortstop, who has turned his offensive game into something positive and who, after several years of development, has probably reached the point where we want our shortstop to be………….BUT………….some think he is worth money (sure he is) and must be moved to allow a possible cheaper version to replace him so we can spend a bazillion bucks on some prominent name pitcher who flubs his dub when he becomes a Cardinal. Oh well. What am I missing here. Are we supposed to stay in a perpetual state of development by trading off the winners and hiring a bunch of ‘maybes’? No arrows intended at anybody in particular but I just cannot understand why we want to get rid of the good to acquire a risky supposed-to-be better.

Is Gomber’s ticket indicative that he is rehabbing in Springfield? I haven’t kept very good track of him lately. Springfield has 8 games at home now to end the season. Jose Martinez will be in SGF starting today for his rehab.
OOPS – I read some of the twitter posts above and see that my questions are answered. Why from Dallas??
Looks like Springfield is finally fighting back against the ridiculous parking charges across the street from Hammonds Field. They announced that for the last 8 games of the season (starting today) there will be free shuttle bus service from a local college parking lot a few blocks away to the stadium starting 1 1/2 hours before games and continuing until 30 minutes after a game. That $20 parking fee across the street has evidently cost business. I know it has in my case.

<Damn rain, making me watch the (ick) Cubs (1-!) in the 6th.>I was recording the Little League World Series also and that game started on time so I watched it until the end and the Cards had just got started so it worked out nicely. That LL Championship team from New Orleans sure was a great hitting and fielding team. They deserved the win and brought the championship to the US (or returned it I guess – Hawaii won it last year). One of the New Orleans kids set a LL WS record with 17 hits in the series and the rest didn’t miss any either.
Happy with the Cards game. Even Mr Carp is showing signs of life again and it will be needed if Kolten stays out for any amount of time. Sorry to see Wacha pulled one out short of a win but I guess that is the way the game is played today. To leave him him may have resulted in a slippery slope and Helsley shut it down quick.
Okay this is not a baseball post but the Cards seem to think that Maroon is a honorary Cardinal. I am not a hockey pay expert but can anybody explain this? Pat Maroon signed a one year contract with another team after playing with a championship team. I think there must be more to the story.
On STL Today:
<But in the end he signed for only one year with Tampa Bay, and for little more than half the $1.75 million he made last season with the Blues>But I just found this (by reading further):
<With nine restricted free agents to re-sign during the offseason, including goalie Jordan Binnington, defenseman Joel Edmundson and forward Oskar Sundqvist, the Blues didn’t have much money left under the salary cap to make any kind of substantial offer to Maroon.>
That would be even more surprising that the game was on FS1. So much local lore would tend to turn off non-Cards fans or so I would think but stranger things have happened. The Waino segment was probably intended to promote his football thing but it did get out of hand.
This 3rd and 4th inning ‘guest in the booth’ thing is getting to be way out of control. I don’t mind listening to old Cards for half an inning but to put the camera on the booth for all but 3 seconds of showing a pitch is maddening. The bit with Waino was far too long and got to sounding ridiculous (to the point where the mute button was used). In short, the game is only second banana when McLaughlin can blow hot air with a ‘guest.’ Sadly, he has now indoctrinated Jimmy Ballgame into the art of prattling about something not involving the game in front of them. Jimmy used to tell us some good stuff about the players on the field (and sometimes still does) but Motormouth Mac has him trained now to ignore the game and start with the BS. Thanks for the vent time.
Wong’s loss, no matter how temporary, is going to hurt. Edman plays a good defense but Carp will now be back in the lineup unless Munoz is given a chance. However, Munoz last few bats have seemed to show some desperation at swinging at far outside pitches.
Ozuna needs to be extended. I don’t care who you want to trade for, a bird in hand is worth two in the bush.
Lane Thomas is human – whoda thunk?
Colorado is just not a very good team. What happened to the team that was in the playoffs last season? Lots of unknown names on their starting lineup.
And now my Sunday morning sermon is completed. You may leave donations in the plate by the door.
With Wong out for a few days, it looks like Carp is back in the lineup by default (unless Munoz gets hot).

Actually EW, on last nights news they were saying that Xi is in much bigger trouble than our P. He has set himself up with total authority and his head is on the chopping block now because of the Chinese economy. As for the fickle stock market, that thing goes up and down drastically so much that any rumor seems to set it on fire. I speak as somebody who has NO stocks but am damned tired of reading Made in China on everything I own. Next they will be buying MLB (if they haven’t done it already). My semi-political rant is over.
PS: Bought the wife a new sewing machine yesterday and it was made in ……wait…..wait…..Taiwan.
Gant was about the only thing that looked unimpressive in this game. Maybe some extra rest will help. Arenado is a beast and he isn’t leaving the Rockies with his big new contract.
The Cards finally found a rookie they could beat but, even at that, they left a lot of ducks on the pond. What rule requires all veteran contracts to be done because of what players have done before? In arbitration years, players can cite the reasons they believe they are worth their asking price and if they don’t get it out of hand the case goes to an arbitrator who hears both sides and decides which one to honor. If a player has a great previous record that is what will get him a good new contract or extension on his old one.
Carp was #9 on the MVP list last season – far down from the top of the list. He played 2 1/2 good months and pretty much bombed out the rest of the time. He had everybody convinced that he was the only answer to bat leadoff despite being very slow running and being more of a guy who milked for walks. True, he was a nice hitter in previous seasons until he himself announced that he was going to become an aggressive hitter. That is when he went into this launch angle BS which even worked for awhile until he found out it didn’t any longer. He has never really found an effective way of not hitting into the shift. He used to be lauded over and over about his supposed ‘good eye’ which he evidently came to believe was superior to the umpire’s. Now he seems to be looking back at the umpire instead of ahead for the ball. To say he is in a funk is no lie. He knows it. We know it. Baseball knows it. The only question is how to deal with it. So far, that answer remains elusive but continuing to give him a chance to fail is not good policy for the fans or the team.

Why do so many folks think we need to trade away half our young players to get one player – no matter how good he is? Did Pujols make the Angels winners. Has Harper put the Phillies in the playoffs? I think you get the point.
