7:15 p.m. RHP Jack Flaherty (7-6, 3.47) vs. RHP Peter Lambert (2-3, 6.55) FOX Sports Midwest // KMOX // WIJR
Peter Lambert doesn’t strike out many, walks an ok number, and gives up a lot of home runs. He’s got an ERA over 6 and peripherals not a lot better.
He’s a rookie righty so naturally he will go 7 shutout innings.
I’ll be at the high school football game tonight. Opening night. Evansville Memorial at Jasper. Scott Rolen graduated from Jasper high school.
I’ll be checking the score tonight. And the Nationals and Cubs game will be starting soon so I will light up a 7×50 Palma Real cigar and watch and listen to Len and Jim, the Cubs announcers. Here’s to a big time blowout by the Nats.

I like this lineup and the defense it brings with it. Ozuna’s no good, but when your next two bottom defenders are Edman at 3B and Fowler in RF, you’re doing pretty well on that side of the ball. And they are certainly capable of scoring runs.
Oh, and Flaherty is worth the price of admission.
Cy Lambert is going to be one tough hombre to touch up on this fine upcoming Friday evening. Lucky for us, “Flash” Flaherty will be just a titch better. I feel most compelled to call this one 4-2 Birds with Goldy launching a TMT ( that’s “Tape Measure Tater” to the layman ) with Dexter Fowler tagging along for the merry ride.
Very surprised that Rat is opting for a high school football game over his Birds this evening. In that game, I like the Tigers from Evansville Memorial to upend Jasper’s Wildcats by the score of 34-20. Play ball!

The problem for our bullpen, though, is that when it is time to shut the door in a close game, we put in a guy in the 9th inning that is either at or worse than the team numbers. He is significantly worse in WHIP, and significantly better in HR/9. And it isn’t like he’s trending up.
I could go on, but that’s the biggest issue from me on our pen. It is helpful to have that stud at the end that no one can touch.
That’s good news there CFICT! Me and Whitey Herdog are watching the game.

Now the bad news – the stock market is way DOWN today.
Amazingly, that’s very welcome news to a lot of clowns in this country today.
Nats just went up 8-0. I didn’t see much of the game, but tuned in about the time Lester got hooked. Santangelo (Nats color analyst) seemed to be mocking somebody when he said the “umpires” go up 7-0 and those “umpires” can really hit. I also heard him say that Lester just missed the plate on a couple of pitches. I can only imaging that Lester and Maddon were whining to the umps repeatedly when Lester wasn’t getting the calls on pitches just off the plate. They do it all the time. Is that what was going on?

Well, Pugs, I see you got your oars all in the boat with the Tigers and Cats! You might be right, this could be a good game tonight. Its opening night so I just cant miss. Besides, the Jasper athletic secretary will probably be at the gate when I walk in and she’s worth the price of admission..:)

Rat and Pugs: just treat today’s plunge as a buying opportunity. It’s like a broken record now. The timing and nature of Trump’s tweets on trade are no accident. He’s been pretty good at knowing when to push and pull, but the problem long term is that the China is not on a 4-year election cycle.

cubs now losing 9-0 going into the bottom of the 9th. Cards will move back into a virtual 1st place tie before the start of their game, just slightly ahead of the cubs based on win percentage.
Big night. A chance to regain first place in the Division and to reach as season high 11 games over .500.
Finally, Wong gets on (albeit, by and error), and they do hit in the first. His first inning singles have been erased with DPs and no further hitting. Good start. 2-0
Man, these uniforms are pretty gaudy tonight, huh?
I just turned in… Goldy crushes one, just foul. He’s got a lot of those this year.
Terrible at bat by Goldschmidt who fouled off ball 3 and ball 4 before popping out to 1B. I guess better 1 out than 2, though.
Bader with the swinging bunt and Parsons throws it away…two runs score and Bader ends up on third. Not sure what that throw was there.
