The rain delay was one hour and six minutes. Evidently they did not expect a letup in rain activity for several hours.

I am still ticked about that rain shortened game. The Brewers would have probably been using Hader but he has blown 5 saves lately so nothing was for sure with him. But the Brewers come back to St Louis in the middle of September and that game could be finished then. Yeah I know the same drama would not exist but it is a game that affects the pennant and should have been finished. Rain persisted in the area so maybe it could not be finished last night but it is a game with an impact that MLB blew the whistle on.
I know the rules on rainouts but this is a pennant race and the Brewers do come back to Busch in mid-August so why not finish the game then?
ONeil supposed to start rehab next week and JMart says he feels fine. Not sure if he needs a rehab but will probably go to Memphis too just to get his swing going again (it was lagging lately). Both will be in the dugout after Sept 1 for sure.

This was what one fan heard Braun saying when Dexter hit his ‘smash’ double in the 7th: “I got it, I got it, I got it, YOU TAKE IT.”
Wong’s single was about the only true hit the Cards had with the bases loaded (Dex’s was an anomaly) but patience at the plate (Edmond-12 pitches) sure pays off when the bases are loaded.
TIVO was a winner. Watched the 8th and 9th this am with BBB. (Breakfast, Bacon & Baseball) but I admit to becoming a tad concerned with all those Brewers getting hits in the late innings.
Get out the broom and go for it Cards. Wainwright is at HOME.

Hey Pugs, Ref your post about Louisiana Cajuns. I am one. Born in New Orleans because that was the closest joint with real doctors but lived in the swamps until the age of 3. Mama always teased me and said they used me for alligator bait but I stunk so bad the gators even turned away. So we moved to town. To this day I have a metal badge on my wall that says “Registered Coon Ass”. I know a lot of folks agree with that last word but I am proud to be a Cajun.
Since Gio is a lefty does that mean Carp will sit and Edman will play 3B. Also, will Bader get a start tonight since he has been hot in the minors? Kolten is batting well against lefties so, hopefully, he stays in the lineup. I don’t think we will see Wieters catching until Colorado comes to town unless the heat wears out Yadi tonight. So my lineup guess is:
Fowler – RF
Edman – 3B
Goldy – 1B
Ozuna – LF
DeJong – SS
Wong – 2B
Molina – C
Bader – CF
Wacha – PIt may be that Molina and Wong are switched.
As for Matt Carpenter I simply cannot believe that it is Shildt’s decision alone on how to handle Carp. The contract itself ($$$) tells me that higher powers in the FO are consulted before any definitive benching action will be taken. As for where to bat him and when to remove him from the game I do believe that is Shildt’s decision.
Noticed that Carp now has a protection pad over the top of his right foot — and I think he actually hit it once last night. Jimmy Ballgame seems to be on track as to how Carp manages to hit his feet and shins so often. It is determined by his swing.
I will give him credit for some good defense in his last few games and I am really amazed that those loopy throws to 1B could beat out anybody but they seem to do that. But Edman’s cannon arm is a definite winner at 3B.
What dislike I may have for Carp probably evolves from the damage (in my eyes) he has caused to other players advancement by somewhat hogging a position at which he is not the best defender (1b & 3B) We lost Adams and Voit and a few minor leaguers who had no hope because of it. Yes Carp has/had his hot streaks but any fan could tell they were the exception and not something we could depend on every day for the whole season. It was the extension and all those extra bucks that really turned me on him but I cheer every hit he gets and curse every strikeout where he looks dumb because, in my mind, he has always been someone who milks for walks and watches strikes. Then he started his aggressive hitting campaign (his own description) with the launch angle BS. Being an old missile man I know something about launch angles and ballistic trajectories and folks he is a long way from mastering that. He is in a league with that North Korean nut on launch angles – all he ever hits is the sea……LOL
He has attempted and even been successful at some bunts but never pursues it to try and defeat the shift and he doesn’t seem to even be interested in defeating the shift anymore. He may as well chalk up this season as a lost one unless, by some miracle, he suddenly catches fire. That remains to be seen. I only hope that if he continues to play he contributes to the teams success and does not subtract from it.
It appears that Oscar Mercado is turning into a real factor for the Indians. Who did the Cards get for him in trade or was he a Rule 5 claim?

Well it is time for TCN to give the FO their druthers as to who should be brought up when the AAA season ends after Sept 1. Of course the bullpen will grow with bodies like Ponce and Cabrera and the outfield will be adding Bader and ONeil. So that leaves room for TCN to add to the list and then gripe when they are sent home instead of coming up to help take the NLC. You have to assume that Edman, Thomas and Arozorena will either remain or come back but there are others who can get some valuable time even as just bench observers. Names please. I am of the opinion that it is the young bodies who will help propel this team to the playoffs – uh and I must confess that I saw no hope for only a month ago.
Once again, thanks for the humor folks over having a real snit about Edman playing in the OF. I frankly don’t care if he plays catcher (he hits better than the current occupant) as long as he does a decent job and continues to hit. I saw one foul ball error on one that I am not sure Fowler would have got to but I see no deficiencies in the OF but I would prefer to see him anywhere that Carpenter plays and that narrows down the choice. In truth, the guy is a true utility player who needs to play almost every day somewhere on the IF or OF. Granted we do have enough OFs so maybe we will see more of them in the near future and see a real scramble as September arrives and 40 hot bodies crowd the dugout – many of them OFs…..LOL
I don’t like the fact that Davies is on the mound for the Brewers. He has a changeup that, when right, makes the Cubs Hendricks look like a little leaguer. But when wrong – POW.
What will it take to end the Carpenter – wait – wait – wait -wait and see if he gets good experiment when it is obvious that we have better hitters sitting on the bench and they can field just as well if not better too. September approaches, heavy home schedule at hand. Grow a pair Mo and Shildt and show him the pines for a bit.
Munoz must have had a hangover yesterday. He was swinging at pitches that were FEET out of the strike zone. Only one was on a hit & run.
I have seen Carlson twice in Springfield so that is a small sample size but he looked to be at least average defensively and far above offensively. Sure hope Mo doesn’t get trade fever with him. Shades of Oscar Mercado who is leading the Indians back to the playoffs (with a few helpers).
That game last night which they won 15-13 could have been lost in the 9th when with bases loaded, no outs and Turner batting for the Nats, he struck out on a 3-2 pitch that was 6 inches high. He had barely fouled one off in the same place one pitch earlier. If he had just taken the ball it would have been a Nats walkoff. Then Hader struck out the next two also……..and the game went on.
