August 24, 2019 at 10:37 pm #103624Leone should keep the name “Dominator” on his back all of the time. Works a lot better than Leone.

Participantgood win tonight. we didn’t really hit great but we made the most of it. pitching was great all around. wongs injury while just day to day is still not good just because he has been doing well since the break. it probably moves edman to second with carpenter or munoz at third unless they put munoz at second. either way our defense is weaker. im wondering for anyone that knows. on that dejong flyball that was dropped, how is that scored. usually its just a fielders choice since they got the guy at second but in this case a run scored that wouldn’t have so im not sure.
August 25, 2019 at 7:19 am #103647This 3rd and 4th inning ‘guest in the booth’ thing is getting to be way out of control. I don’t mind listening to old Cards for half an inning but to put the camera on the booth for all but 3 seconds of showing a pitch is maddening. The bit with Waino was far too long and got to sounding ridiculous (to the point where the mute button was used). In short, the game is only second banana when McLaughlin can blow hot air with a ‘guest.’ Sadly, he has now indoctrinated Jimmy Ballgame into the art of prattling about something not involving the game in front of them. Jimmy used to tell us some good stuff about the players on the field (and sometimes still does) but Motormouth Mac has him trained now to ignore the game and start with the BS. Thanks for the vent time.
Wong’s loss, no matter how temporary, is going to hurt. Edman plays a good defense but Carp will now be back in the lineup unless Munoz is given a chance. However, Munoz last few bats have seemed to show some desperation at swinging at far outside pitches.
Ozuna needs to be extended. I don’t care who you want to trade for, a bird in hand is worth two in the bush.
Lane Thomas is human – whoda thunk?
Colorado is just not a very good team. What happened to the team that was in the playoffs last season? Lots of unknown names on their starting lineup.
And now my Sunday morning sermon is completed. You may leave donations in the plate by the door.
August 25, 2019 at 7:35 am #103654A reminder that the game was on FOX Sports 1 nationally using the Midwest feed. I do not know for sure, but my suspicion is that they drove the Wainwright segment, as in-game dugout interviews are not a normal part of FS Midwest telecasts.
August 25, 2019 at 7:41 am #103655That would be even more surprising that the game was on FS1. So much local lore would tend to turn off non-Cards fans or so I would think but stranger things have happened. The Waino segment was probably intended to promote his football thing but it did get out of hand.
August 25, 2019 at 7:45 am #103659The fantasy sports charity Wainwright leads has player-led draft events all over the country, not just in StL. (It is really expensive, though…)
August 25, 2019 at 7:55 am #103661The Cards are reaping the rewards of being patient and riding through the rough spots with the two young arms, Hudson and Flaherty. Right now they are the top two starters on this club, with the three veterans being inconsistent and so-so.
The Rockies downfall is due to their pitching being much worse this year than last. Their bullpen imploded early in the season, in a large part due to letting Ottavino walk, and Wade Davis’ struggles. In addition, they have a couple of top infield prospects they had hoped would replace LaMahieu at second, but neither has done the job while DJ has joined Luke Voit in New York and is having a great year.
I am still pulling for a 93 win season out of our club, which requires a 23-11 stretch run. That won’t be easy but not impossible by any means.
Agree on Big Bear. He needs to be retained. Next year I look strongly at giving O’Neill the shot at center, with Ozuna and Fowler flanking him and Bader as the fourth guy, and Martinez getting a few starts here and there and DHing in AL parks. By 2022 our outfield evolves to O’Neill and maybe Carlson, with the wily veteran Ozuna in left.
August 25, 2019 at 12:17 pm #103672I want Ozuna brought back on a 3-5 year deal but its a shame he isn’t old enough to sign a contract extension.

Carlson isn’t waiting until 2022. He may be in St. Louis next week for all we know. He certainly will make it sometime next season for sure.
The Ozuna issue gets more interesting by the day. The front office has given no indication they plan to bring him back. They haven’t said they won’t either but insiders can usually read the tea leaves on these type of things and most think he won’t be back. (Remember how the front office publicly talked about wanting to extend Goldy. You don’t hear that with Ozuna).
Meanwhile, the Big Bear keeps on producing and seems determined to force the front office’s hand. He will get paid somewhere whether it is here or somewhere else. We all know we have too many OF’s between St. Louis and Memphis. While depth is good it would be nice to reallocate that depth to shore up a weaker aspect of the team (rotation).
August 25, 2019 at 1:33 pm #103687The risk in being non-=Chaka this on Ozuna, is he would be a nice upgrade in Chicago over Schwarber, or Milwaukee over Braun. So it could be you make your own club a little weaker and a rival stronger.
But then you open the door for O’Neill, maybe Carlson or someone who might just blossom.
