KeepComingBackParticipantSure glad I didn’t spend any of my pre-work time making a disparaging post about Pallante and the wisdom involved with starting him today. I did get to listen to the whole game.
KeepComingBackParticipantYou guys are all in form this morning. Starbucks?
KeepComingBackParticipantBarring catastrophe looks like we win AND get the backend of our BP another days rest.
KeepComingBackParticipantThere again, it’s opinion . I don’t hide how much I like Winn. So I’m probably going to the sites that value him higher. And like Dom says, it’s a long season.
KeepComingBackParticipant1TD, no disrespect to how good Winn has been playing, but Joey Ortiz has been better so far and would win the RoY at this point if Shoto weren’t a rookie
That’s your opinion. Winn has been hitting in lower part of the order so has had fewer opportunities to maximize his hits into rbis and higher OPS. Winn plays a tougher position and therefore has a higher war.

Compare the stats. Ortiz wouldn’t win
KeepComingBackParticipantWe need Contreras back and Carlson to start hitting southpaws the way he’s capable of.
KeepComingBackParticipantThey’re scared to hurt his feelings by moving him down in the batting order. Pretty sure Springfield is out of the question. And Bling, it’s hard to take you seriously as a poster when everything you suggest is so anti front office. Blaming them for Arenados suckness is truly absurd.

KeepComingBackParticipantRutrow. Who could have predicted.

KeepComingBackParticipantThat’s the dilemma gscott. I don’t want to sit him either. But against lefties it’s like not having a dh.
KeepComingBackParticipantJJ-We did it my way yesterday. No bueno. Let’s put Donnie back in and sit Siani. Noot na. So Burly Donnie Carlson in the of. Both nolans Goldy and Winn infield. Herrera catch. Carp dh. Write their #’s on a piece of paper and pull em out of a hat for batting order.
KeepComingBackParticipantZTR You nailed it-Life is more fun when the Cardinals are good. I’m not sure that’s really a very good statement about my own maturity level, but it’s probably a little late to change. It’s been like that since 1967 when I was a 10 year old in love with baseball. I lived in KC and the horrid A’s left town. They starated broadcasting the Cardinals and I have missed very little of it since that time. When I left MU I moved to StLouis so I could go to games. Anyway, the last couple of weeks were a nice reminder of the joy the game can bring. It makes me feel a little guilty of where my snark can take me when it’s not going well. Kind of like life, you must take the good with the bad. But also like life, what’s worked in the past may not work in the present, and change is needed. I believe that’s where we are now.
KeepComingBackParticipantThe next 2 games against the Reds will tell me a lot. Goldy has produced all of our runs the last 2 days. Is our offense trending back down, or is it just a blip? I think we still haven’t found the optimal lineup.
KeepComingBackParticipantI’m sorry anything negative I said about Goldy. My bad.
KeepComingBackParticipantWinn has baseball intelligence way beyond his years. Add that to elite reflexes and speed. By far the most valuable player in the entire organization. I’m not sure I would lead him off right now, but that’s ENTIRELY because he is so comfortable right now. He belongs in that spot and never look back whenever they’re ready. But I will scream if they flip him around. I thought the turning point in the current resurgence the team is experiencing (hope it continues) came the day after LL was quoted as saying they just needed to loosen up. I think we were playing Philly and Winn was fooled so badly on a breaking pitch he burst out laughing. He looked in the dugout and the manager and the rest of the team were laughing as well. It’s like they just completely flipped the switch and started playing well. Winning is good medicine. Rats-Winn is just at such a different place in his career than Edgar was when he was here. If Winn matches Renteria we are in real good shape. I see more defensive potential in Winn. Mind you-Im super high on this guy. I went to Springfield multiple times just to see him. Marvelous player.
KeepComingBackParticipantAgreed JJ. Plus you force me into doing a little homework to support (or refute) my opinions rather than just throwing it against the wall.
KeepComingBackParticipantValid arguments. I tend to rely on “feel” sometimes. Siani makes both the other outfielders less bad. All of Donovans offensive metrics are better. But that isn’t saying much right now. He’s well below all of his career averages. He is also a player, even when going well, I feel needs to play only 5 days a week. So there’s that. My final answer-Donny and his 0.0 WAR sit for Sianis .3 WAR and Carlson gets a chance to get some at bats. Our defense really will be much better.
KeepComingBackParticipantI’d like to see Carlson start vs the lefty.
Just about the time I get ready to make a post about Sianis noodle bat and how Carlson should be playing, I see the stat that he’s one of the 5 best defenders in MLB. I’m disappointed in Carlsons offense. He needs to sub in for Donovan against lefty pitching. I wouldn’t mess with Siani. Carlson will hit lh pitching if given some at bats. It’s not going to get any easier to get him some playing time when Contreras gets back.
KeepComingBackParticipantCompare to our backup shortstop.
That’s not the comparison you should make. We got JoJo Romero for Sosa. Romero is a integral cog in the back end of our bullpen. Sosa was an unreliable backup. That is the comparison to be made. But that doesn’t fit your narrative. I’m happy for Sosa, but we all know his stats will regress to his career averages. .258/21/91/.732 If you want to pound on the front office, that’s fine. Pound away. But find a legitimate complaint. That’s not one of them.
KeepComingBackParticipantI’m conflicted. Winning some games sure has been better than losing and all the negativism that accompanies it. But if we aren’t a threat to win the division at the trade deadline we should sell. No wildcard for me.
KeepComingBackParticipantLooks like we will be lucky to get tonight’s game in. Maybe someone needs to start a Burleson thread for entertainment.
KeepComingBackParticipantThat’s way more excitement than what I need. Burleson and Winn igniting this offense. Thank goodness Goldy looking better. This is the offense we thought we would have. I assume no Sunday lineup-but. Nevermind. Winn and Burly over .300? Us old guys still like that stat.
KeepComingBackParticipantTwo years ago Walker Winn Graceffo and McGreevy were all at Springfield. It was well worth the trip. Winn was the best than and is now.
KeepComingBackParticipantAnd he demonstrated his hit tool
KeepComingBackParticipantYou just heard about Winns defensive ability
KeepComingBackParticipantWinn. Legitimate candidate
