Carlson on the other hand received so much tout that it was almost as though Stan the Man was being fitted for another Redbird uniform. He actually seemed to be on his way to a nice career when in his first full season in 2021 at the age of 22 he put .266/18/65 up on the board and placed 3rd in the NL ROY vote. Since then he’s become an automatic out.

Still thinking about some of those rival Astro teams of the NLC. They were loaded for a while and in ’03 included all of the following names on thier roster…Berkman, Biggio, Bagwell, Beltran, Kent, Clemens Pettitte and Oswalt. And oh…Don’t forget Octavio Dotel…Haha!

My dad was working in Houston and I got to see Willie Mays. He was with the Mets and was completely done, but I didn’t care. I saw the greatest all around player of all time. The great Jimmy Wynn was the Astros big star. This was 1972
That same summer in Houston we saw Cassius Clay fight Jimmi Ellis. He was of course Muhammad Ali by than, but my dad wouldn’t call that.
Edit I fact checked myself. It was 1971. And Mays was in his last year with the giants. Definitely 1971.

I’ll be darned. I still recall the first time I ever laid eyes on Willie Mays when he was a SF Giant. As a 9 year old boy when I looked out into CF at Busch Memorial Stadium and saw that jersey with the iconic #24 I thought to myself, “I’m seeing Willie Mays…In person!” And when I saw him make one of those patent basket catches out in CF, it was as if I’d just seen Moses part the Red Sea…Haha!

    Taking a gander at today’s out-of-town scoreboard:

The Phillies lead Milwaukee 3-0 in the 5th inning at Veteran’s Stadium.

The Reds and Colorado are scoreless in the top of the 1st at Mile High Stadium.

And the Redbirds and Astros are also scoreless in the top of the 1st at Colt 45 Stadium.

I was surprised to learn that the Astrodome was still standing. I was under the impression that it had been razed, but learned that it’s just sitting there as an abandoned structure.

Gorman took what looked like an easy, gentle rip and the baseball simply rockets off his bat and leaves the playing field at it’s deepest point…2-0 Redbirds!

Look at Alvarez #’s. That’s what a dh should look like. We waste that position by being cheap. Sign a professional dh and give your guys their days off.

    But our DH provides “leadership.”

Yeah, Alvarez has been one of the best hitters in the AL for several seasons. He’s no joke.

Those Astros threads look like something you’d see out of the UFL during a Battlehawks game.

I suppose if someday we have 3 healthy outfielders who can play defense AND hit, you could use Burleson as full time DH.

It would be my guess that the Cardinals will always play it cheap on the DH slot. Even when that slot’s filled by a guy named Pujols…Haha!

Looked like Verlander wanted no part of Gorman with 2 outs and the RH’ed hitting Arenado on deck.

Goldschmidt’s obviously got off to a horrendous start this season, but he has scored 28 runs which leads the team in that category. I still think runs are pretty important in the game of baseball…

I have been to a couple of pretty big sports collectibles shows in Houston. Met Ozzie Smith and Keith Hernandez there in fact. The shows are at this place that is right next to the Astrodome. I too was surprised it was still in existence.

I hope Tucker is okay and can resume play in a couple of days. He is a fun player to watch.
