We are very much in it especially if we can get 1 or 2 very helpful pieces and start getting healthier again. I dont feel like trading a few guys from the farm is hurting our future.. we always have a good farm system and itll continue. However if we arent going to bother trying this year or next than why did we even get arenado? Why not trade goldy then if we are only worried about next year and moreso beyond that? I get wanting to keep gorman and carlson and walker and winn and burleson… if we are wanting them to eventually hold down on their current playing positions then all the money we are spending on arenado and goldy is absolutely pointless. We should be more in a win now situation while we have those players. Unless everyone that is against aoto is alao more than happy to see arenado walk. 2 yrs of soto may not be worth giving walker away but i do think arenados opt in and 2 yrs of soto is more than worth it

Can walker play anything but 3rd base? If not i dont see many reasons to keep him unless they really want him as a DH or Arenado rest day. Unless they plan to use him for offseason trade or in case Arenado opts out. I personally think Winn is more valuable to the Cards than Walker is.

Well we need to do something because we are a wild card team at best right now. Arenado will opt out if we do nothing and next year the rockies pay us 21 million of arenados salary so sure would be nice to have him still. I think we can find a starting pitcher and catcher for what salary will come off the books with waino and molina. Cdick and pujols and couple others come off the books as well so i think we can afford to pay someone for remainder of this year and next year at least.

Id love to get a starting pitcher or 2 and id be fine with just that if that is exactly what we did but weve also talked about needing another bat back when we had ozuna. Ozuna walked and we got arenado. While arenado is better we still havent filled that need. Corey dickerson and pujols dont fill that need. Oneill helped last year but obviously struggling this year. Carlson isnt the budding superstar everyone hoped for. Gorman has power and potential if he can limit strikeouts but i have my doubts. The problem i see for the most part sadly is our payroll. Our payroll doesnt seem to grow like all these other teams do. I dont understand how we are supposed to compete with 260 million dollar payrolls while ours stays virtually the same each year… there is no reason we arent able to push it to 180 or 190 or even 200 million. We are destined to be a wild card team at best unless we win our weak division. And if we dont make an attempt then arenado walks. Go get 2 starting pitchers… go get soto.. go get otahni… just do something that shows we at least want to win a world series again sometime and not just ok with being a wild card team. We are 3 games out of 1st in our division. We dont really need a lot but 1 soto or 2 pitchers is a game changer for us and brewers dont seem to be making any deals. Having said that i would rather have seen cards go after boegarts and fill the SS need or murphy/contreras and fill the catcher need. Those are 3 decent to good bats that also play needed positions that make more sense than soto and his weak defense and should cost much less even if trading with cubs.

I agree with that. I really dont trust that Montas is fully healthy and i definitely dont want to overpay for him. I dont want them to overpay for Soto either as much as i would like to have him. So id rather see them go after rentals as well. I just dont have any answers at this point. A lot of guys are against soto and/or corbin.. and against montas.. then against thor.. and now lopez had a bad game.. who do they want then? lol castillo was never gonna happen within the division.. even contreras who i wanted wouldnt happen.. there isnt a lot out there after all of that… i honestly am not sold on gorman and walker plays 3b and so long as arenado opts in we wont need a 3b and i hope we arent wanting him to dh. Im fine with sending those Gorman and Walker and a couple lower prospects for soto. Id like to hang on to Winn to replace Dejong. If i remember correctly only 2 teams in the NL (dodgers and mets) have allowed fewer runs to opposing team than the cardinals. Our pitching hasnt been too bad as a whole. Not scoring runs has been a problem. I just feel Soto is a much bigger advantage for us than a Montas type would be.. 240 some battering average is weak but 20 HRs and leads MLb in walks by 20+.. his hitting would be much better when pitchers have to throw to him. So im for getting soto and then trying to get 1 or 2 rental pitchers if possible and arenado opting in.

As long as the Cards get more serious about pitching than last year im definitely for passing on Soto.

Well it definitely shows there is attainable help out there so we have no excuse of just doing nothing.

Cards667… thanks for clearing that up… that makes much more sense. And hopefully Dejong can figure his problem out if a trade will be centered around Nolan Gorman and Edman can move back to 2nd. Otherwise like ive said before i wouldnt mind seeing them go after Bogaerts. I feel like he is more valuable to the cardinals than soto would be and maybe cheaper.

I just think that trade eould possibly kill 2 birds with 1 stone if we could get away from trading away any good starters.

I like the murphy/montas from the As idea that MLB.com suggested. Thatd sure help a lot but i wouldnt stop at just that. If it were me id do that deal and id also try to bring Bogaerts in as well. I think personally id rather have him and his contract over Soto for 2.3 yrs

Some reports are saying Red Sox may be in sell mode… i think Bogaerts could be had cheaper than Soto and hes batting almost 100 points higher and may fix our shortstop problem unless we are just planning on Edman being the shortstop from here on out. Could maybe center it around gorman and winn… moves edman back to 2nd and wouldnt need winn anytime soon.

Would anyone be more interested in Xander Bogaerts than Soto? Reports are claiming Boston might be in sell mode….

Yea i dont see Soto being worth what they are asking… if we could get a catcher who can hit better than .200 that would be huge… maybe a quality pitcher or 2 as well. Im just sick of our catcher being an automatic out. Contreras is hitting about the same as Soto and secures our big need for years assuming a trade and sign would happen. Otherwise maybe the plan is to steal him via free agency after the season?

Id honestly rather see the cards go after wilson contreras… we need a catcher this year and beyond and he can hit. Trading with the cubs could be the problem but he should be cheaper than soto and still allow us to go after some pitching.

I think id rather see Dejong in there than Nootbar.. the bottom of the order is just atrocious right now… we should be looking for a catcher and another bat along with pitching. Feel bad for Arenado and Goldy… have little help and had absolutely none yesterday. Phillies could literally walk Goldy and Arenado every at bat and just make the bottom of the order beat them and win easily

4 sub .200 and 1 flirting with it at .216 i feel like shildt is still managing these lineups and no one wants to hurt anyones feelings… our 9 hitter has 13 hits on season… our 1 hitter has 7 hits and has had more at bats… and i agree with above… i want to see sosa.. sick of playing someone because we are paying them… like we did with Carp..

I know its still early but our lead off hitter is batting .175 and our 9 hitter is batting .361… i think arenado needs to be in the 3 spot and edman should be leading off.

I just dont understand why the organization is so set on staying at 168 mil for payroll… bump that number up to 175 or 180 mil… trade Dejong and bring in Story…. i know people are up and down with a Story signing but a lot were on Arenado too… can he hit outside of coors.. he had a bad year blah blah blah… Itd be a lot better for ticket and merchandise sales.. more likely to keep Arenado here and lets face it.. Goldy has limited time left and its Molina and Wainos last year most likely.. we should be at least trying to compete right now instead of just staying relevant. Especially while Carlson and Oneil are still cheap. I dont expect or even want anything like the Dodgers payroll but they are 100 mil above us and our payroll should be increasing annually anyway. I just feel this is a year we should be really trying to compete. Dickerson signing really didnt impress me much. Id rather have spent it on Story and planned to see Gorman come up halfway into the season. Obviously there is more involved than what i know but i think Story will pay for himself.
