Catcher for sure… i just dont think im sold on paying Contreras… would love to see them trade with the As for Murphy.. i think hes better and would be much cheaper
Bccran they had 3 over .300 and another 3 more over .275… we have 1 over .300 and 1 over .275… and then it drops severely… far better hitting team and yes better pitching… would be nice to improve on one side at least
Forsch… that is just 1 run games too.. in given games where a soto type player were to have 2 or 3 rbis and that was the difference is greater… one ace in our rotation would be huge but isnt going to be enough either and i wasnt going to be happy with just a soto move. We need runs and we need to give up less runs obviously but again aside from the dodgers and mets.. our defense and pitcher has given up less runs than the rest of the NL. Weve been in 26 1 run games and even quite a few shutouts. Even games where our pitcher has gone deep into games and held their own just to lose 1-0 in the 9th against a subpar 4.0 era pitcher we should have crushed. I dont disagree with anyone about needing good pitching.. we do.. but if we arent going to get it at least get another bat. Mo should be trying to get contreras or murphy along with a pitcher but i doubt it. We are gonna need a catcher and preferrably one who bats above .200. We have too many sub .220 hitters right now.
That lineup is a great defensive lineup but im not convinced oneill bader dejong and even edman are very talented at the plate right now and maybe never again. I do want to see burleson and gomez called up soon tho. I think they both deserve a try both batting over .300 in triple A. I really dont feel like Noot (i know you didnt mention him) fits in at this level right now. I do hope TO and Dejong and find their bat again. I just feel like we are wasting prime goldy and arenado while waiting for their replacements. If walker and winn were coming up next year then id be all for it but they are 2 years away still.
Most of the time spending money does result in a championship or at least in it with exception of a hot streaky lower team. Is that what we are hoping for? And since we dont spend money and our payroll stays the same as it pretty much has for 5 or 6 years while everyone elses seems to jump up. all we have is a farm system for leverage. We will say this crap again in 2 or 3 years when winn and walker need help and pitching is the main focus because we cannot get good pitching. Last i looked we were 3rd in the NL in runs given up.. the 2 ahead of us have 3 aces in their roation. We were 6th or 7th in runs scored in the NL. Even with our pitching hurt we have done alright. If we won half of the games weve lost by 1 wed be sitting pretty. Our catcher cant hit.. short stop cant hit.. half our outfielders cant hit.. our leadoff man cant hit.. we need another bat. Doesnt need to be soto but we have many more problems than just pitching
Our current rotation is never good enough. It is never addressed properly so may as well try to improve the offense if available. But we seem to lose many games by a run. Seems like 1 more offensive weapon could change a few of those games. We arent going to get good pitchers. We never do so trying for that good bat was sorta hopeful and needed considering we have wanted a good lefty bat since ozuna was on the team. Oh well its done and over with. Maybe we can sneak out something in the deal.
Yep… being mediocre seems to be fine… waiting for walker and winn to be the next goldy and arenado and provide them with no additional help will be the same story in 3 or 4 years. They have a few hours to get something done.. we need a catcher for next year and part of this year it seems. We do need pitching but when dont we. And a good bat sure would be nice. Weve wanted and needed a good lefty bat for years but never want to get one. Oh wait i forgot about dickerson.. my bad. What a pathetic offseason and trade deadline thus far.

Yea they really sold out this year… see if it pays off.
Well dylan carlson better step up his game and jordan walker better be the next aaron judge.
You think our team is good? Half of it on the injured list for another month? We can win 2 of 3 from nationals… we can maybe take a couple from the cubs but unless we playing sub 500 teams the rest of the way we may survive to play a playoff game.
Im sure its true… lets go get another scrub and change absolutely nothing with this horrible team. Maybe we can win another 17 straight
We can compete at 190 or 200 mil.. i dont think we can at 160 anymore. I said it a couple days ago on here. Id have to think adding soto would almost pay for himself.
I do have to assume this organization knows where Arenado stands at this point and should factor into their thought process. And i do agree we need pitching but unless we go get 1 or 2 more starters.. might as well go for soto and get another rental pitcher per usual. I guess we will see what happens but like i said before.. my ideal trade would have been murphy or contreras and a couple pitchers. But i guess that must be their offseason plan. I just dont want to waste goldy and arenados good years waiting for players to develop when they may not.
Well i guess im basing it on the fact that he was sick of his last organization doing nothing to improve the team and him, blackmon and trevor story couldnt do it alone kinda like what him and goldy are expected to do. But on that note.. when does arenado have to opt in or out by? Because if the cards have some offseason acquisitions in mind like a good catcher or maybe good shortstop and definitely better pitching and arenado does indeed opt in and walker and burleson are able to come up next year then i could get on board with that. Catcher position will be a must and a good one at this trade deadline was my ideal trade target. Guess we will see how today shakes out. But if we knew arenado was opting in now.. it might change how i view some of this. But if we pass on soto and arenado does walk then those minor leaguers have too much to overcome to have a shot in next few years and its just a waste of having arenado and goldys talent here.
There is no guarantee any of these minor league players turn into much more than role players.. dylan carlson was our big prospect everyone was high on and he is decent. Gorman isnt bad but i dont have a lot of faith in him or walker becoming superstars which we seem to be banking on. If we get soto for this year and 2 more even we are contenders. Maybe higher chances next year and year after. But if we get soto.. arenado opts in and a lot of money comes off books next year along with 21 mil from the rockies and improvements can be made where needed. If we just stand by and not go for it and hope that walker and winn make an appearance next year or the year after… after goldy is 2 yrs older and arenado is possibly opted out and gone then we are again going to just be a relevant team at best. I dont see winn, walker, gorman, burleson, carlson, libby, 35yr old goldy and whoever being a world series contender in the next 2 or 3 yrs. We know Mo is fine with just being a wild card team every year but this is why hes constantly ridiculed. We have a very hot goldy and arenado now… we dont in 2 years. So if we dont make the trade then we basically just accept again that we are ok with being mediocre and im sick of that. These farm system guys will be replaced like they always are. Libby wasnt even drafted by us.. we will always find players. We will not always have some of the talent we have now. Not to mention its also molina pujols and likely wainos last go at this. And if we were to win a world series or even 2 with soto… no one will be upset or regret trading jordan walker unless he becomes the next mike trout or aaron judge and even then how many world series wins do those 2 have?
Not to mention id be ok with Cards using same prospects and go after Happ and Contreras. I know Cubs may not be excited to trade with us but you get 2 bats and 2 needed positions for probably similar to cost of Soto. That seems to be the dodgers and padres back up plan… rather that be our plan A
Skubal no longer an option
I dont get to watch minor league ball but why isnt anyone very high on Burleson? BA is .332 and 17 HRs in triple A… sure looks like hes ready to make an appearance in the Majors…

Yea that definitely doesnt upset me any
Pugsley I sure would welcome that and may be more happy about that!
