5:40 p.m.
RHP Miles Mikolas (7-7, 2.54) vs. RHP Tyler Mahle (3-7, 4.48)
BSM // KMOX // WIJR
Also BSSO and BSSW+July 23, 2022 at 9:22 pm #192299The Reds announcers said that Matz had a knee strain, not an ankle strain. They said the knee strain might be worse.
July 24, 2022 at 11:15 am #192325Too bad this is a night game. We should club these chumps tonight…… I’ll call it 8-4 Birds with Tommy E. playing a little long ball. What’s on tap for din-din this evening one may ask? Red snapper for din-din and Applegate (heads and heels the best dog you’ll ever eat) hot dogs with onion, kraut and yellow mustard for lunch. It’s been said millions of times, but bears repeating…… you’ve never truly had a real hot dog until you’ve had an Applegate hot dog.
July 24, 2022 at 11:19 am #192327It’s not a night game. 12:40 central. And no lineup posted that I’ve seen yet.
July 24, 2022 at 11:30 am #192329Sunday night games should be forever forbidden by federal law, punishable by loss of draft pick and imposition of three consecutive weekend doubleheaders.
Din-din tonight will be chicken curry with brown rice and a crunchy green salad, topped with a refreshing chocolate sundae.
Our birds will continue yesterday’s bat work while severely limiting the LOBs.
Rah Cardinals!

July 24, 2022 at 12:23 pm #192338Ah, just can’t trust that fella who makes up the daily game thread.
July 24, 2022 at 12:25 pm #192340Keep up the good season Miles. Get that good vibe going.
July 24, 2022 at 12:26 pm #192341Wow…..I nearly went to the movies this afternoon. Thanks Cards667 & KansasCardFan!! Let’s play a little ball shall we?
July 24, 2022 at 12:37 pm #192345Same here. Was gonna go see Top Gun out of boredom. Any word on Matz today?
July 24, 2022 at 12:42 pm #192348No word on Matz yet, but “Top Gun” was pretty darn good. I was going to go see “Black Phone” today until you guys straightened me around on today’s game time.
July 24, 2022 at 12:45 pm #192349Mahle sets us down 1-2-3 in the 1st.
July 24, 2022 at 12:52 pm #192354Mikolas joins his pitching counterpart today, by tying a ML record, set by many, by setting the opposition down in order in the bottom of the 1st.
July 24, 2022 at 12:54 pm #192355Arenado gonna hit one out today. He’s working on player of the month again.
July 24, 2022 at 1:03 pm #192357Matz to the IL and Naile recalled. Didn’t mention the severity, but at least 15 days now.
July 24, 2022 at 1:19 pm #192358This is looking like one of those games we have seen all too much this last month. Mahle looking like Greg Maddux out there.
July 24, 2022 at 1:34 pm #192360OK enough fooling around. It’s time to put those bats to work. Rah Cardinals!
July 24, 2022 at 1:40 pm #192361Did I say Arenado? I meant Goldy. Long ball. Need a lot more than that.
July 24, 2022 at 1:40 pm #192362A towering Goldy homer slices the Cincinnati lead to 4-2 here in the top of the 4th.
July 24, 2022 at 1:41 pm #192363Middle of the order doing a good job trying to overcome the shortcomings of our pitching.
July 24, 2022 at 1:48 pm #192364And our other hitters….
July 24, 2022 at 1:57 pm #192365Our other hitters are inconsistent contributors.
July 24, 2022 at 2:02 pm #192367The Reds get their 4 run lead right back in the bottom of the 4th……the second run coming to fruition by getting into an intentional run-down.
Going into the 5th inning, Mahle has thrown 52 pitches and Mikolas 81.
July 24, 2022 at 2:10 pm #192368Mid-game this looks like a series loss to club 23 games under .500, and where probably our two best starters were not good.
Plus Matz goes out again – he just cannot get untracked.
Hard to find a lot of positives. I will say that if Carlson and O’Neill can get into a groove, I really like that top 4 of those two and the two stars at 3 & 4.
Gorman looks a little overmatched, but the talent is there – kind of like Carlson. Maybe a bit over their head, but young and will keep getting better.
Pitching though, is the biggest issue. Especially in the bullpen, not that the rotation is elite by any means.
