Yes the bullpen has at times this year been a dumpster fire but the real culprit for this team all season has been the lack of offense and it isn’t just underperforming. It was easy to see before the season started that we didn’t have enough offense.

Many on this board were screaming all Winter that we needed more lumber in the lineup but the FO saw otherwise and we have been paying the price all year.

As I have said before Matheny is not an elite level manager but he has proven he can win when given a winning type roster. The front office DID NOT give him a winning roster this year. They just didn’t.

Having said that, if Matheny has lost the clubhouse then a change might have to be considered. Giving him an extension last year was weird at the time and is still weird.

Teams like the Astros, Cubs, Yankees, and Dodgers might try to do something for Verlander.

We don’t have a cleanup hitter on the roster, which is not Matheny’s fault by the way. It doesn’t really matter who he puts in that slot. They are all equally bad.

Should we expect a nasty tweet or instagram post from Yadi tonight?

Yes we have some power, but as we saw in 2016, that doesn’t necessarily lead to a productive offense. Going station to station isn’t efficient. I think monitoring our RBI numbers would be more revealing. It seems to me that we have too many players on track for 25HR and 60RBI, which isn’t very effective. We must lead the league in solo homers.

That is true but the fact that he had the courage to do it publicly tells you he has no respect or fear of MM. Tells you who is running the clubhouse.

I’m glad the Dodgers got Darvish. I wish they would have gotten Britton also but they didn’t. Knowing that the Nats always choke in the playoffs the Dodgers are the only thing preventing the Cubs from the World Series again so I wish the Dodgers well.

Personally I think the lack of movement stinks. Yes the Cubs are setting themselves up for a window closing flop in 4 years but that is still 4 years away. Until then we just have to sit idly by in our corner and have sand kicked in our face. I don’t like it.

I can’t stand the Cubs but it must be fun to be a fan of a club with a front office so aggressive.

It would be your typical St. Louis “do nothing” move. I would rather see them sell than do a lame move like that.

My prediction is the Cardinals do a big flat nothing today and watch the Cubs run away and win the division by 15 games.

I don’t neither Nunez or Devers are the answer for them this year. They could still use a 3B upgrade.

If we get Donaldson we could trade Gyroko to the Red Sox. They still need an everyday 3B.

I also like the Lynn and Carp to the Yanks idea. If we are going to re-load we might as well go all in and do it right. I wish we could find takers for Fowler and Leake also but I know that won’t happen.

Matheny had better tread carefully here. This has all of the makings of “losing the clubhouse”, which usually spells doom for a manager. If the team is forced to choose I bet they choose keeping Yadi over Matheny.

I say we punt on this season by seeing what we can get for Lynn, Oh, and whoever else might have some value, then try again for 2018. Except this time, we need to have a SERIOUS off season instead of the usual low hanging fruit, path of least resistance, and nibbling around the edges approach that we usually have.

My biggest disappointment is in the front office thinking that the team they assembled was going to be a winning team. Many of us posted on here during the off season and during the Spring that we were being too complacent and that we didn’t have a big bat and that the bullpen seemed shaky. Unfortunately those issues have proven to be true.

I find it a bit disingenuous for Mo to trash the 25 guys in the club house when he didn’t do his job in the off season.

The process repeats. If I click on a thread it logs me back in but if I go back to the open forum it logs me out, which makes it difficult to determine the time and date of the most recent posts. It could be something peculiar to my computer, I don’t know.

This team is so dismal right now it is driving me nuts. I think I need to step away for awhile and let them do what may.
