How long before MLB tweaks the pitch clock rule to stop Contreras from trolling pitchers?
You know other teams are complaining about him.
Might not want to pitch Kenley against us in the ninth again.
As I recall we beat up on him a few times when he was a Dodger.
This is a game I did not expect to win. Maybe I will have cosmopolitans again tomorrow.
Drink of the day is a cosmopolitan. https://photos.app.goo.gl/57qaEGj6E9gCufsM7
More Flaherty: "Whoever is behind the plate isn’t going to change that. It’s on me to execute. I love having (Contreras) back there & he gives you confidence with that competitiveness he has. I’m looking forward to it, it'll be fun & he & I attacked Milwaukee before."

Willson Contreras will catch Jack Flaherty on Monday. #STLCards

Contreras screwed up our pitchers again….., oh wait
Jack Flaherty told the assembled media this evening that he would not answer any questions about his fastball velocity. Here's that dialogue: pic.twitter.com/5555uFTRxj

I’ve never seen him behave this way with reporters. So I disagree it was Jack being Jack.
Wow, Flaherty was being a jackass to the media after the game.
I miss when Jack Flaherty could pitch and our outfielders caught fly balls.
What is your evidence, gscottar, that Waino had any part of this? He hasn’t even been affected.
Wainwright is the last person I would suspect to go after a teammate, that is not his nature.
The one member of the pitching staff who has publicly criticized Contreras was Jack Flaherty.
BP is getting in on the fun now.
Bedeviled Cardinals Scapegoat Willson Contreras

Frankly, I don’t think Walker’s defense is any worse than that of Burleson or Yepez (hard to be worse than Yepez). Burleson isn’t hitting right now to boot.
The only guys in Memphis who are better defensively are Mercado and Hurst. Neither is on the 40 man, Hurst can’t hit and I think he is injured right now. Mercado is hitting at Memphis, but whether that will play out at the major league level is questionable. He hasn’t worked out at that level yet.
I would be on board with bringing Walker back but they would have to send someone down.
They had to know going from Molina to Contreras wasn’t going to be seamless. Molina is one of a kind and likely will never be replicated.
Rosenthal said in his article today that the Braves traded the “other Contreras” for the same reason, yet we don’t hear the Brewers complaining.
Seems to me having a better pitching staff is the difference.
In any event, the whole thing was handled very poorly.
If you believe what Contreras said Yadi told him in a phone call, Yadi was watching the games and said the pitchers weren’t executing.
It is self-serving, I get it. But I believe at least part of it was pitchers not executing.
Well, Jack Flaherty excusing his terrible start by blaming “pitches that don’t make sense” in the post game interviews, likely got the ball rolling. No reporter is going to miss that, and will run with it.
Like I said previously, Jack has sucked before, even with Yadi behind the plate.
As for Waino, has he even thrown to Contreras? If he did it was in his short spring training. Why would his returning spark this? Jack mouthed off before Waino came back.
Rosenthal now has a “they should have known better” article up. Figures he might as well capitalize on the mayhem while he has a chance.
I’d like to know who thought publicly humiliating Willson was the way to go. There is a tactic that never backfires.
I noticed that Mo shot down the shake off alternative by arguing the pitch clock, but pitch com was not mentioned. Pitchers can call their own pitches relatively easy now you know. And what better way to learn your pitchers?
There is some incomprehensible word salad from Marmol in three tweets from Jeff Jones about the Contreras situation. I am not posting it here.
The pitchers have pitch com and can call their own pitches. They can also just shake off and not a throw a pitch they don’t agree with. This is why I don’t have a clue why this is happening. Seems like the easiest fix to me, rather than scapegoating your brand new catcher and possibly ruining the relationship for good.
If it is the pitcher who doesn’t want to use pitch com but instead blame Contreras, well then I have no sympathy, either call your own pitches or shut the **ll up.
Not letting your 87 M dollar catcher catch for stupid and easily fixed reasons is imbecilic to the extreme.
I read that Dayn Perry article. In it Perry interprets Flaherty’s comments as an indictment on Contreras. I don’t know if that is what Flaherty meant or not.
However, if that is indeed what Flaherty meant, then I suggest Jack take a look in the mirror because he sucked when he pitched to Yadi.
I hope Perry misunderstood. I like Jack but he has some responsibility in all this.
That’s all. I am going back to drinking heavily.
Well let’s just let Burleson catch and Yepez pitch. Then put Noot at shortstop and and DeJong in the OF.
Then we have a team! Let’s go.
Going to make my fourth highball now.
Eh, a few highballs in me and I really don’t care anymore.
Want to play Goldschmidt and Arenado in the OF? Why not?
Well I don’t know what anyone else is doing but I’m in to heavy drinking at this point.
Salud!
The Cardinals aren’t just considering using Willson Contreras in the outfield. They will be.
Contreras won’t catch much over the next couple of weeks. He’ll be used primarily as a DH and corner outfielder. More soon on @TheAthleticMLB

Looks like OF clarity is now our catcher playing in the OF.
He is playing LF tonight. I hope not much gets hit out there.
