They showed a stat on the Sunday broadcast that showed that Arenado is 5/35 with risp and two outs this year.

Arenado has .1000 or so OPS since late May. He might be coming empty in close situations but he’s not the problem you claim he is.

Everybody looks good when we win. Well, not everyone, but I’ll lay off that guy, because I’m not one to pile on relentlessly.
Flaherty can turn in a good start sometimes, and the Nats stink, so we have a shot at this. Also, Noot went 4 for 5 with two dongs in Memphis Sunday, so he’ll be back sooner rather than later.
I was trying to think of Redbird HOF members who may be members of other team HOF’s and since we were playing the Mets, Keith Hernandez immediately entered my mind. After him, I thought of LaRussa, Torre, Sutter and maybe even Rolen. I’d like to see Hernandez inducted into the baseball HOF, but it probably isn’t going to happen. I still think trading him away was one of the worst Redbird mistakes ever. He’s undoubtedly by far the best fielding 1B’man I’ve ever seen and he could not only hit, but could also tailor his bat to whatever the hitting situation called for. When Mark Grace emerged, I always thought to myself, “Uh oh, another Keith Hernandez.”

Well, still 8.5 back, but at least 2 teams in the NL are looking up at the Cardinals. Not too much to get excited about, but it’s better than being the worst of the worst.

In the game yesterday (Sunday) Arenado homered in a tie game, TWICE, to give us the lead. The second HR was the game winning run, but it wasn’t w/risp or with 2 outs.
Maybe you could cherry pick it down to a handful of PA’s where he’s o-fer?
At the moment we have won back to back games and the players who participated in that success looked good doing it.
Playing to a .403 win percentage, third worst in the League, takes a total team effort. There is a lot of failure involved. There haven’t been any heroes, but its not too late.
Sure is an odd start time for a Monday.
1TD- most of D.C. is off today due to the Juneteenth federal holiday. Probably why they made it an afternoon game.

I haven’t seen if Noot will officially be back, but how will that change the lineup. Noot, Donovan, Goldy, Arenado, Gorman? Or drop Donovan down? Noot between Goldy and Arenado isn’t the worst idea either…..

I have no Arenado hate agenda. The facts speak for themselves. When there are two outs and RISP he is terrible. Been that way since he came over in 2021.

And FYI, I even predicted he would win the NL MVP this year. I guess I am going to be wrong on that one.

Pugs…Hernandez/Goldschmidt is an easy call for me. Nothing against Goldy, but no one comes close to Mex at 1B. He had an arm that gave the Redbirds 2 RF’ers and opposing managers wouldn’t even attempt a sac-bunt with him manned up at 1B. Rolen/Arendo is a tough one for me. While I think Nado is the flashier 3B’man and certainly makes plays over there on the left side that no one else is capable of making, for some reason I think that Scott Rolen may have been not only the more consistent glove, but also a smarter one. I can’t recall ever seeing him make a particularly bad judgement. I think that’s also what made him such an outstanding baserunner. I’m reasonably certain Nado will go into the books as the superior glove, but I just felt more comfortable when the baseball was hit in the direction of Rolen than I do Arenado.
I am with 1TD on first base – Hernandez was incredible and the best I have seen there. Jack Buck mentioned a few times over the years he was broadcasting that Keith was the best, but of course he has not seen Goldy.
At third I give slight edge to Arenado. I did some sort of stat awhile back – I think I took defensive WAR divided by games and had a metric for that. Arenado is right up there with Brooks Robinson and Clete Boyer as the best ever, or at least the best of the guys I ran the numbers on. Now Nolan will likely drop some as he ages and loses a bit of range and quickness. But the guy is incredible. And in sort of an intangible, perhaps biased eye test sort of way, I saw him out here a lot and he made some plays that you could not see how anyone could have done it. The bare hand plays he can make are amazing – not too much unlike the famous Ozzie Smith clip of that dive up the middle when he was still a Padre.

Yep, Oli is obsessed with the LH/RH combo. I would have have Noot, Donovan, Goldy, Arenado as the top 4 and I agree with Mike that I would have Edman at SS and Carlson in CF with PDJ on the bench.
