FWIW, I did not vote for Freese. Love the guy, but no. I voted for Steve Carlton and will continue to do so until he gets in or is no longer on the ballot.
I voted for years for Keith Hernandez before he got in. I never voted for a few of the players who did get in.
Fan voting leads to popularity contests. This has always been the case for the All-Star game (and that’s fine) and does the same for the Cardinal Hall of Fame.

I have never been a person who sugar coats things. This team has serious issues, most pressing in my opinion is the pitching.
My thoughts are mine only but I have believed for some time that the Cardinals need to make some wholesale changes. Most importantly they need to abandon their Crash Davis philosophy of pitcher development.
For those who aren’t Bull Durham fans I am referring to the philosophy of Crash Davis that “strikeouts are fascist, ground balls are more democratic ”
Pitching to contact, IMHO, no longer works in the current environment.
Anyway, those are the thoughts that I have and that influence my writing.
The outfield is going to be a train wreck until one or more of Nootbaar, Carlson, or O’Neill return. There is no combination of the available outfielders that is going to help in any way.
Teams generally tend to draft for offense. Defense is extra. It is what it is. The idea is to get a net positive taking both into account.
Unfortunately, so far our bat first outfielders have trended net negative.
I am drinking a Firefly tonight and hoping for the best.
Yes, let’s IBB the bases loaded and bring in the worst pitcher in the bullpen. Sounds like a winning strategy.

On another note, if Montgomery doesn’t pitch better soon, I am in favor of sending him back to the Yankees (not likely to happen but I can dream).
I’d send Matz to the nether regions but we’re stuck with him.
Have to say, Alec Burleson is not doing a whole lot for me right now.

First Mike Shannon and now this. The Cardinals family have been dealt some blows this year.
Enough value to trade for a LH reliever maybe? Seems like we could use another one. Cabrera is iffy at best. Libby is a starter, Thompson is being turned into a starter (so they say) and the others at Memphis are really no better than Cabrera.
A good one may cost more than one of them but maybe both. Or one of them and someone else.
I agree a good starter is going to cost a lot in trade.
Brian, I would tend to disagree that Nootbaar is not a “star”. He is most definitely a star…in Japan. 🙂
Aside from being a good leadoff guy, which he definitely is, he is also a bundle of energy, which is good for this team. Baseball is supposed to be entertainment, and Nootbaar is entertaining.
There is this thing called a slump. Nootbaar is having one now. Just like every other player on the team has every year at some time.
I have never understood the emphasis on batting average. It is such a weak and puny statistic. All it measures is quantity of hits, with no thought to quality. A bunt single counts the same as a home run. That is just lame.
Now Slugging is good because it measures quality. On base percentage is good because the more a player gets on base the more he can score runs, and runs lead to wins which are the ultimate goal.
Batting average is just “meh” to me.

Helsley has pitched two innings before with no issues. He didn’t have command of his fastball in that second inning. Not the manager’s fault.
I don’t get Arenado’s approach sometimes. He took a meatball in the middle of the plate then swung at a low and inside pitch into a double play.
I sometimes wonder if they all don’t panic guess when things don’t go their way.
I’m no hitting expert, but it sure is frustrating to watch.
Third time through the order the Dodgers have Mikolas figured out. Our pitchers need to learn to be less predictable.
Three runs ain’t going to cut it.
And I see I made my Margarita just in time. I saw that coming. Always happens when the offense scores a few then stops.
