I never thought the Cardinals would bother with the manager situation this year, which is probably going to be a very mushy season, but giving him another two years? I foresee a lot of heartburn ahead.
Brings back a vivid memory from college days and my pal Gyp from Pittsburgh running across campus screaming Mazeroski’s name after game 7.
I agree with what most of the posters are saying, based on what we have in hand, but I still feel Gorman and Walker are lost causes and replacing them should be a priority.
Consequently, this team is pretty much same old same old and results are likely to be the same.
I’m saddened to see the exciting, energetic Donovan shipped off for a handful of maybes but thank goodness the Cardinal brain-trust has fiercely hung on to Gorman and Walker to lead us to future glory.
I just can’t get excited about halls of fame, especially since more often than not it seems to honor merely “above average” baseball players rather than the truly great. I know I know defining “fame” and “great” is a slippery matter as eras change, and even baseball is changing. Thus, HOF has become a big yawner.
I don’t get too excited about halls of fame one way or another. Seems like there are more and more “above average” guys getting in these days rather than truly great ballplayers. I guess “fame” is a slippery term to deal with in our era.
CFIC: Of course I’d like nothing better than to see Gorman transform himself into a positive factor in our lineup, unfortunately occasional flashes just haven’t done it for me.
I guess this means we are stuck with another year of watching Gorman agitate the oxygen molecules around the plate.
Admittedly I haven’t been paying close attention lately, but I’m wondering when this much-anticipated “rebuild” is going to get started. It’s not a coupla unimpressive bullpen arms that is going to set us off on the road to glory.
Oh well OK, I’m a righty. I don’t really feel like traveling back to St. Louis but if it will avoid another year of Walker in the outfield I suppose I could do RF for a while, though most of my playing days were in center. And I could use the trip to visit my sister in the STL burbs.
I like the thinking that considers putting Winn on the block. That opens up some new roads down which to travel. Why not?
I wonder what Donovan’s preference would be, if actually given the choice. Would he choose to stay in St. Louis and struggle along with ownership’s money-saving program for the next few years or move on to a team whose priority is to win baseball games?
Here we have a bunch of millionaires who work eight months a year playing a wonderful game struggling against the awful conditions forced upon them and another bunch of millionaires/billionaires busy inventing ways to squeeze even more money out of real working Joes.
Those of us who can remember $1.50 grandstand seats and an affordable beer and a dog can understand the realities of modern life and a bygone age but that don’t mean we have to love it. It’s hard to find anybody to feel sorry for in this situation … except for loyal fans.Has there been any indication that anybody out there would actually want Gorman in a trade, even at black Friday prices?
There is no shortage of elements to examine in one’s search for the ultimate measure of success, but in the end Lombardi had it right (if in fact Vince is really the one who coined the saying).
