Those of us who can remember $1.50 grandstand seats and an affordable beer and a dog can understand the realities of modern life and a bygone age but that don’t mean we have to love it. They also let you bring in your own hot dogs, or any food, and non alcoholic drinks.
Mo and his crew were notorious for rushing prospects which is why Walker is so messed up
Sometimes top prospects just don’t have it. Walker had for a small time but they found how to pitch to him and he hasn’t adjusted.
That may be the case but he still did not get enough time at AAA before coming up the first time. He got 29 games at Memphis before his promotion and he was hitting .239 at the time.
Walker doesn’t have MLB level baseball skills as far as I can tell. He might do OK in KBO, or the like.
Yeah I don’t see Walker being any better than below average at the plate and in the field.
Probably can do better than his historically horrible last two seasons but so what?
I’m going to spontaneously combust if he starts 2026 with the big league club.
With Walker being a RH hitter, they likely will put him on opening day roster. Unless someone comes out of the woods to surprise the brass.
Oh well OK, I’m a righty. I don’t really feel like traveling back to St. Louis but if it will avoid another year of Walker in the outfield I suppose I could do RF for a while, though most of my playing days were in center. And I could use the trip to visit my sister in the STL burbs.
We’ve always had a Maris, McGuire, Rolen, Berkman, Goldy and Nado type presence in our lineup, that came from another org.
Ozzie, Edmonds, L. Walker, Holliday; it’s a very long list.I’ve always watched the farmhand starters total, with each daily lineup, looking for that game where we would start 9 farmhands. The lookin’ should be easier this season.
For 2026, I see the emergence of Alec Willis! Not because of his stats, or anything besides my desire for him to do well! Ok, it is wishful thinking but his injuries have to give him a break sooner or later, don’t they? He is still young since he was drafted out of High School, so maybe this will be the year we see something special from him… or see anything from him!
The Velasquez acquisition looks like a Mozeliak move. He’s 27 so he’d have to make the MLB roster out of ST. His numbers are underwhelming but he does have some punch. A RF that was used mainly as a DH, his Cf experience goes back to ’23 (3 games) so he really doesn’t fit into one of our needs. Is he any better than Church who has more flexibility. A hope and pray guy with the Cards at this point.
But really, we were used to this kind of move but will Bloom continue on with veterans who basically have no business being considered for our MLB roster.
14, Velasquez was signed to a minor league contract so he doesn’t have to make the St. Louis roster out of spring training. He could be left in Memphis as backfill or see if he has figured something out.
Like I wrote at the end of the article, I hope this isn’t the veteran RHH OF they said they planned to get.
I hope the 2026 change isn’t the current total amount of the player budget. Don’t tell anyone, but we are 38mil shy of last seasons opening day 26man.
Of the bottom 12 current budgets, 7 reside in the AL & NL Centrals. The NL Central has four clubs in the bottom 12.

Has anyone else been monitoring the sheer volume of pitchers we have been acquiring through trades or signings? It’s borderline insanity at this point. Maybe they plan to cut a bunch of low-hanging fruit this Spring? Or maybe they figure 15 of them will get hurt and put on the 60-day IL?
Here’s ALL the position players acquired since the draft (not counting DSL): Nelson Velasquez, Blaze Jordan, Jesus Baez. Just 3 total position players entering the organization with more than that having left.
The list of pitchers acquired in that same timeframe? I count 28. 28! Crazy.
Yes I have noticed it and it is interesting to say the least time. Kind of like that time in the 2021 draft the Angels selected pitchers with all 20 picks. Not much came of that draft for them either.
They did lose 10 pitchers to minor league free agency plus Alcala, King, Mikolas, and Gray off the 40-man. Plus Helsley, Matz, Maton, and Fedde in trades and 1 in the rule 5 draft. There was definitely a cupboard to restock. But taking in 28 (or maybe more) to replace 19 seems like a lot.
On the position side, they are down about 10 now over that same time and just took in the 3 I mentioned above as replacements.and only 1 of those has come in the last 5 months.
jnevel, I was also thinking about that imbalance when I was writing the current series on spring training uniform number changes from year-to-year. I may add another article at the end to lay this out.
