Ah, it’s that wonderful time of year for asparagus. Madame CiF and I began tonight’s din-din with fresh asparagus from our local farmers’ market, splashed with homemade vinaigrette, followed by New England clam chowder. Except it wasn’t really clam chowder because we can’t get clams around here forcing me to use mussels instead. So I suppose we had New England mussel chowder. And, strawberries are now in season, so we finished off the evening meal with a bowl of fresh gariguette strawberries. Yum.
Baseball. Let’s hope our birds are going to continue last night’s enjoyable offense, minus the little late game scare that briefly threatened the mood. I love to hear those bats cracking up and down the order.

Tip for Pugs: Fruit. Lots of it. Satisfies your craving for sweet and is generally healthy. Especially in summer we tend to consume a lot of fruit salad. And good bread. A bit less healthy than fruit but a variety of breads tastes good and is filling.
And the offense continues! Go Birds.
I’m still savoring last night’s thriller, and have replayed that third baseline dribbler at least half a dozen times. Let’s hope our Birds can keep on the winning track.
Din-din this evening was a Boursin and spinach quiche, with a bit of green salad on the side, followed by a little butter pecan ice cream.

I agree Ollie is obsessed with the “handedness” thing. It is an element of course, depending on the game situation, but it’s not an absolute.
And I’m a believer in picking your starting lineup and sticking with it, unless strong circumstances dictate otherwise, especially given our bench.
We’re going simple American again today for din-din – pork chops, mashed potatoes, corn and cornbread well lathered with butter. Dessert will be a dish of Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream liberally sprinkled with fresh strawberries.
Still recovering from yesterday’s great game-turned 9th inning heartbreaker and hoping that offensive Redbird flame is still burning.

Yesterday, not having anything else to do, I tuned in to a few innings of the Cubs game and discovered how calmly and reasonably announcers can call a game. Frankly, I don’t even know their names, but these guys apparently don’t feel the need to fill every available milli-second of air time, as ours do, frequently with nonsensical blather or trying to guess what the next pitch will be. It was quite nice to have occasional moments of empty time to watch the game and think my own thoughts, as uninteresting as that might be. And yes, before you say it, I’m aware the volume button can accomplish similar results.
I agree with the above. These guys are professional athletes in their prime not a bunch of outta shape weenies. It’s only April for goodness sake.
Din din tonight was chicken breasts lightly sauteed in butter, then placed in a baking dish, smothered in onions, covered with tomato slices, then a layer of gouda cheese with cumin cut into thin strips. Put a cup or so of creme into the skillet and scrape up the butter and chicken juice and pour over the chicken. Bake for 20 mins or so until cheese is melted and golden. Serve with brown rice. This is a dish concocted by Madame CiF many years ago. Dessert was once again a slice of chocolate cake.

I’ll try to stay awake long enough to catch the first inning or two before stumbling off to jamais jamais pays.
