Has anyone given any thought to dangling Herrera out there in the market, when that becomes possible, to see what, if anything, valuable he might bring? We already possess plenty of .240 hitters, many of whom also can manage competent defense, and no shortage of catchers waiting in the wings. Just a thought as an alternative to waiting a few years for a potential big star to emerge from the farm.
And to think I stayed up half the night to absorb that thrashing. Ouch!
We’ve rebuilt into a mediocre team so far. We need to appreciate the occasional flashes and grit our teeth for the next coupla seasons. I hope we don’t grab on to the tail of the wild card business. As Red told Andy Dufresne, hope is a dangerous thing.I went to bed last night top of the 6th with Cardinals leading 4-3 only to discover this morning we got involved with that stupid ghost runner nonsense and ended up losing. Double damn!
Is nobody interested in this Friday night game against the Phils? Must all be heading out for a fish dinner I guess.
I, on the other hand, will be dining on beef tacos and refried beans with a nice fruit salad for dessert, then watching a movie on Netflix while trying to stay awake for first pitch.

Apparently that’s the philosophy these days – one inning and sit no matter how well or poorly he’s doing. Long relief has gone the way of the dodo.
I had a little trouble staying awake for the full nine innings. Looks like Baez may have has the same problem. But hey, a W is a W.
I like Burly a lot too and I’m glad the Cardinals were not tempted to let him go for a couple of sometime-down-the-road maybes. Walker seems to have finally risen to Cardinal expectations, though he just won’t give up on chasing those low outside pitches. And if Baez blossoms into Saturday Baez rather than Sunday Baez and JJ can raise his BA (I know most of you no longer believe in BA) by 30 or 40 points, that would be a hell of a nice opening lineup.
Rats: I think there are more than enough disappointments to go around in the Cardinal Nation these days. We should embrace these bits of joy when they explode into our Saturday afternoon.

Oh zoot! I stepped away for a bit to tend to Madame CiF (unwell today) and missed all the gorgeous fireworks. Guess I have to catch it tomorrow on replay.
Well boys and girls, there you have it. The St. Louis Cardinals, 3 hits, 0 runs, 61-61, .500, smack in the middle of the NL Central, little hope of finishing a winner or grasping hold of a disappearing last wild card (as if that is something worth having). At least we’re spared the pain of hoping.
As Red cautioned Andy Dufresne, “Hope is a dangerous thing.”
The navy blue away cap is the one I wear every day down to the cafe to impress my French friends while having my morning coffee.
I’m with you Brian. Those broadcasters and writers often do a fine job as they sit on their derrieres behind microphones and typewriters. As a kid in the 40s and 50s our radio was constantly tuned to the Cardinals games and I enjoyed and appreciated the work of Harry and others. But talking about baseball and writing about baseball ain’t playing baseball. It’s kinda like those excellent actors who play doctor roles on medical shows. They’re really good at what they do, but you wouldn’t want one to take our your appendix. Starting in the 60s with college, army and long periods working abroad I had only sporadic contact with baseball, but since retirement I’ve resumed my love affair with the game. Unfortunately I sometimes now find myself irritated with some of the media element. I must be getting old and grumpy.
OK, I just downed a din-din of pork tenderloin with gravy, mashed potatoes and snap beans. A slice of lemon cake finished it off. So now let us whip up on some Phillies. Rah Cardinals!
Got up for middle-of-the-night relief and checked into the sixth inning for an exciting finish! Now back to the feathers. Gnite.
Clearly Winn is a superb fielding shortstop and I frequently think how much superber he would be with a little bit stronger bat. Perhaps he could try losing some of the iron around his neck.
I think it would be wonderful to see some refreshing new faces in the 2027 rotation and a coupla more in the bull pen, though I have the feeling that what we’ve got is what we’ve got and we’ll just have to learn to love it.
My goodness! And to think I slept through all of this. Well, I can crank up the replay now without suffering the anguish of that 7th inning Yankee comeback.
