Din-din tonight was a repeat of yesterday’s Armenian meatball soup, finishing the leftovers with iced tea and some Haagen-Dazs butter pecan for dessert.
Enjoyed last night’s game this morning in replay and hoping our offense will show a little more oomph tonight. I eagerly await the day management finally tires of Nolan Gorman and his .210 BA. They just keep running him out there, hoping his occasional spurts of long ball will some day develop into something serious. A five-year look should be enough. There must be some other other third basemen out there we can be looking at instead of watching this guy agitate the oxygen.
Afraid I’ll have to catch tonight’s game on replay tomorrow. Too late for me to stay awake. My best wishes for a thorough thumping of the Cubs. A little more hitting s’il vous plait!
Tonight’s din-din was Armenian meatball soup and iced tea. We finished off yesterday’s lemon cake for dessert.
Din-din tonight was a thick slice of beef filet seared with butter and sprinkled liberally with herbes de provence, homemade fries cooked in olive oil, and a crunchy green salad with tomato, onion and vinaigrette. Dessert was lemon cake with a scoop of Haagen-dazs vanilla ice cream. Yum. I think I’ll have another run at the cake and ice cream once the game gets underway.
Let’s hope tonight is drub-a-Cub night with plenty of redbird offense.

I know it was inevitable but I was nonetheless saddened to see Pozo’s departure. He seemed like such a good guy, at least as viewed on the TV screen, did everything that was asked of him and looked like he was having a good time in the process.
Din-din was unspectacular this evening, simply fried eggs necessitated by the installation of a new front tooth crown this afternoon. I’m about to continue the soft touch with a dish of vanilla ice cream, topped with a bit of chocolate sauce.

My thinking in my initial remarks above is that “rebuilding,” or “resetting,” as I’m sure I’ve heard Cardinal brass use, implies dissatisfaction with the team as it was last year and a need to change it. I merely asked for evidence that this is happening to any significant degree so far this season.
I don’t have any claim to great inside baseball knowledge. I am merely an ordinary Cardinals fan. And when I look at today’s Cardinals I don’t’ see much differences with last year’s version. I’m not naive enough to expect a rapid transformation from a mediocre baseball team to legendary status, but I would have thought that some visible progress would have begun to emerge. I’m not trying to sound like your grumpy old grandpa, though I guess perhaps I am. Hot streaks like our most recent still make my day and send me running to the morning box score!

Has anybody noticed any evidence of rebuilding?
Frankly, I’ve long been confused about what the term “rebuild” actually means. So far, a third of the season has passed and from what I can tell, it’s pretty much the same old bricks on the building site.
I guess we’ve juggled a few pitching bricks, and this Torres guy has been fun to watch lately but he’s only been here a week, and the bench is unlikely to extract many chestnuts from anybody’s fire. Just a truckload of same old same old. Where’s the beef? Where are the new faces? I fear our recent surge over .500 is not the future.
Consequently, I must side with our pal Rats. We need a bunch of somebodies who can hit.
Rebuild? As Ricky Ricardo used to say, “Splain it to me Lucy.”
I sure would like to see some more Cardinal offense. I’m enjoying May’s pitching effort but I feel myself nodding off.
Nothing fancy at the table today, just a nice spaghetti bolognaise with a little green salad and iced tea. I’ll be back around the 7th inning with a little vanilla ice cream decorated with raspberries.
This alphabet soup guy is a little worrisome with all those Ks. I’d like to see more ball bashing.
Hey, have we got any more of these Torreses lurking about in the dark corners of the system? He certainly brightened my day today. Whatsmore, he’s got a great smile!
I just put the finishing touches on CiF’s famous Saturday night pizza din-din – sausage, green pepper and mushrooms – and will sling it into the oven in the next few minutes. I’ll wash it down with a tall glass of iced tea. Madame CiF has chosen a bottle of Beaujolais. We’ll finish with a bowl of raspberries.
Our birds appear to have lost some of their offensive energy in recent days which I hope has been regained with yesterday’s extra day off. It’s always fun to whip up on those other boys in red, so let’s do it today!

In the event anyone is keeping track of din-dins these days, chez les CiFs ce soir it was calves’ liver smothered in onions and cooked in butter, fried potatoes and Belgian endives. Dessert was fresh raspberries and the beverage was a couple glasses of Beaujolais.
I would like to sit back and enjoy a slugfest this evening, preferably with our birds doing the slugging.

Caught this one on replay this morning. I was developing a serious case of heartburn when Herrera gave me a soothing glass of after breakfast grape juice.
I fear I must I must contravene both the game thread duty and feasting admonitions to express once again the good cheer brought yesterday, whether a PR stunt or a spontaneous explosion of joy, by the non-baseball activities. Old fart that I am, I would have loved to have been among their youthful number. Furthermore, I am about to remove from the oven a din-din of roasted duck, potatoes and carrots and break open a nice bottle of Beaujolais. If I have any room left I’ll slice a generous portion of banana nut bread for dessert.
Oh yes, I’ll also go on to cheer our birds to a tenth game over sea level.
Helas, no fiddlers in my neck of the woods. Madame CiF and I kept things super simple for din-din this evening with biscuits and gravy, followed by a dish of fruit salad.
Don’t think I’ve got the stamina to watch tonight’s game in real time. Thank goodness for MLB replay.

Baseball was made to be played in sunshine.
If one is absolutely, under pain of death, forced to say something positive about the Cubs, it’s their long, brave holdout against playing baseball under lights.
