Leahy leaves in line for the W after 5 full. Although he scattered 8 hits, he didn’t hand over any BB’s which is always a key to success for a pitcher. Sometimes I’d rather see a pitcher serve up a lambchop that travels 500 ft. than to place a baserunner on 1B with a walk.
The Red Sox secure their 9th consecutive W over the A’s in an 13-1 final at Fenway. I can’t remember the last time a team burned so hot for such an extended period of time. They’re now 33-5 since June 25th. During the month of July they went 21-4, and they’re undefeated so far in August. It’s way past a little stupid.
The Bogsider from Derry seals it shut for the W to place the Cardinals back to .500 as he moves into a tie for 3rd place in the Big Leagues with SV #28. He’s closed the door on quite a few games in which the final inning cushion was a high pressure 1 run lead.

The only team that comes to mind that’s been similarly hot were the Tigers in 1984. Didn’t they start the season 35-5 or something like that?r/Esteemed Rat
The Dodgers lose their 7th consecutive game as they’re victimized by a walk-off 2 run tater that lifts the D-Backs to a 4-3 final in AZ. The evil baseball gypsies have firmly entrenched themselves in the former paradise of Dodger land.
I don’t specifically remember that hot start, Rats, but I clearly recall that 104 W ’84 Tiger team and watching them thrash the Padres in that year’s WS. They were no joke.
Edit…I’m also reminded that Detroit closer Willie Hernandez was awarded both the ’84 AL CYA and the AL MVP. Hernandez, Fingers and Eckersley are the only AL relief pitchers to accomplish that feat. It’s never been done in the NL.
