Brian -what happened to Brendan Donovan? The 3B drafted this year ..he played the first week of the season at State College and has had no stats since then.Injury? Suspension?.I asked about a month ago and was still wondering?

t exactly fooling a lot of hitters before his latest injury I have very serious doubts he can come back in ANY EFFECTIVE ROLE.Guts and heart can only do so much... if you donhave the stuff ……….then you simply are not capable anymore..I don`t want to see Wainwright end up like Mike Maroth.Trying to finesse and dance and struggle thru every batter.Way too early to give up on Weaver.He is still a kid and is going to have ups and downs.Wanting him to go to Memphis is rather foolish IMHO.You live with the growing pains with young players.
As much as I like Wainwright and what he has done for the Cards I have serious doubts he will ever be effective in any role from now on.A best a long relief blowout guy to eat a couple of innings to save other arms.I sure don`t want to remember him as a punching bag for other teams .It wpould be great to see him come back and be effective but with his basic average to below average performance the last couple of years and his recurring arm injuries I have serious doubts.
Sorry i missed the game and thread.Nice to see that DeJong nailed one and Carp hit the eventual game winner.Another good start from Mikolas and Hudson and Norris get the job done.
BMike- Alex Reyes is like the guy in the old Lil Abner comic strip-The guy with the Black Cloud that always hovered over him.Probably before your time.Agree with you about Reyes-don`t count on him for anything and be pleasantly surprised if he is able to pitch and help.
As for O`neill and his “discomfort’ I wonder if this was a reaction from the sliding catch a few games back and maybe a kind of nagging pain that got worse after a couple of days? Just guessing?Bicyclemike- very very very little” Reyes light”-O
Neill hasnt missed massive parts of seasons.A week or two here and there but not even a close comparison IMHO.Ross has had several decent starts along with some poor ones.Well worth trying ……..if he does well it puts less pressure on the kids(Bomber,Poncedeleon) to perform .

Thanks to you all.Logan-Jackie was diagnosed End of February 2016 and given 6 to 8 months……stage 4 when they found it…..she didn’t last 2 months. Very nasty and sneaky cancer…..most of the time by the time symptoms show up it is too late to do anything effective.
Missed most of the game till late .Nice win.Unfortunately I lost my better half a little over 2 years ago to pancreatic cancer.She was 14 years older than me and put up with me for 29 plus years.She used to tell me to go to the basement when I was listening to or watching the Cards because I got a little loud.I would love to just hear her one more time to take it to the basement.
CC- also have wondered about the Layne situation.He has done well at Memphis other than a hiccup the other night.Webb has looked okay in his game at STLOUIS and Shreve did okay .With Sherriff down till next season and Gomber possibly being a SP and Cecil being awful this season I hope Layne gets a shot but roster crunch is working against him.i do hope he will stay in the organization this offseason and gets a chance to stick.Lefty arms are valuable to have around.Nobody in the system is dazzling as LH reliever that I recall so keeping him would be fine.

Neill got schooled by Ottavino in the 8th.Otherwise a solid 1-2 SF RBI BB and 1 K.Since his recall he is 4 for 6 2 RBI 2 K,1 BB.....cant complain about that.Great win today.Now go kick some Pirates butt tomorrow and keep Fowler the hell out of the way.CC-i hesitate to call it a pitching surplus.Carlos Martinez has been injury prone this year.Wacha is dealing with a injury yearly.Counting on Alex Reyes for anything is a risk. Mikolas has been a savior this season but can he co.e close next season.Gomber,Hudson,Poncedeleon all have flashed good talent but all are still young and unproven.Flaherty been fairly good.Weaver had been a disappointment.Gant looks good about every other start.No question that there is a bunch of young talent available…….how to use them depends on the health of the top 5 guys.I see 2 dependable SP(Nikolas,Flaherty)2 Question marks hethwise(Wacha,CMartinez) several rookies(Gpmber,Hudson,Poncedeleon)

neill needs to play every day.Contract be damned.Fowler is not the best option for this team.Why make all the moves getting younger and retooling the bullpen and then leave that underperforming bum in RF? As for ONeill`s hits ….he still got on base twice….Some on this board used to slobber all over the TB OF when he got on base. 2 for 3 in the box score still counts.As you know sometimes a hard hit ball is caught and a dribbler or bloop falls in.Brian- a question please-what is going on with 2018 draftee 3B Brendan Donovan?
