I’m on the “on purpose” side. Royals hit 4 Cardinals in one game. Ump did nothing. You as the Cardinals players can’t let that stand without a response.

You’re not going to wait to hit a guy when you’ve got him at two strikes and one more would end the game. Come on. It wasn’t on purpose.

I’m with you jager. If you’re going to hit a guy you do it with the first pitch and not the 4th pitch of the at bat. Makes no sense to wait to hit a guy because he could have made contact and gotten himself out.

1st Pitch was a called strike down and going away
2nd Pitch was a ball inside
3rd Pitch was fouled off in the middle half of the plate
4th pitch was the one that hit Bonifacio

Another fact to consider. In the last four and a half years – since reaching Triple-A in 2014 – Webb hit just two batters prior to yesterday. That is it.

Sure, maybe it was coincidence. But maybe not. No one except Webb himself can be certain, but the umpire was clearly aware of the count and the situation when he made his decision.

It wouldn’t be the first time an MLB ump messed up and was trigger happy.

Does Adam Hamari have a reputation at all – bad or good? I admit I’ve never heard of him.

All I know is Danny Duffy went ballistic at him when he was ejected after a checked swing call went against him Saturday and a Bader home run followed. Here is the story from KC. Reads to me like Duffy got what he deserved.

Webb has been a Card for only a month and a half…. new guys gotta pay dues. Probably his first plunking situation here.

Reads to me that Hamari baited him into getting ejected. Hamari just became a full time MLB ump in 2017 as he basically replaced Jim Joyce. Seems like he’s already making a name for himself.

I rewatched the game on the Royals feed before I even commented on here and even the Royals broadcasters were shocked Webb got ejected and even said they didn’t think it was intentional. I don’t understand the rationale of waiting until the 4th pitch of the at bat to plunk a guy.

Hamari was bad both ways all day calling balls and strikes. Tossing Webb was a freaking joke. Am in the “not on purpose” crowd for the reasons given. You get two outs in the 9th and want to hit someone, you do it on the first pitch not the 4th pitch. Yadi’s response also leads me to believe it was not on purpose. Had it been I don’t think he reacts like he did.

That all said, get win yesterday and just what a playoff team does, comes back to sweep a bad team.

The reactions of Molina and Shildt indicated it was not a purpose pitch. Also the situation, bottom of the ninth, two out, a six run lead, two strikes on a guy, would not be a time to hit a guy.

You could read Shildt’s lips and several times he was saying the call was “BS” (using the word of course).

Maybe that is some fire that will keep this club going. They have a tough stretch of series coming up against some good clubs.
