The #stlcards system was 1-3 on Thursday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Springfield outfielder Won-Bin Cho, collected two RBI and stole a base in his first four-hit game at Double-A. I didn’t know that Kevin Herget was still around, but he cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A by the Mets.
Good point. He took over at the end of the 2025 season.
cf64 asked:
Is Jurrangelo Cijntje and Tai Peete eligible for this years Rule 5? If so, protecting them would be wise!
No, they both have another year.
First-place Double-A Springfield went 4-2 for the week while the organization heavily bolstered the roster for the second half stretch run. #stlcards LHP prospect Liam Doyle is rounding into form with a 0.84 ERA and 14 strikeouts in his last 10 2/3 innings pitched.… pic.twitter.com/KkDE4JOtT8

August 6, 2026 at 7:25 am in reply to: St. Louis 2026 Game #116 thread – Friday, August 7 vs. Colorado Rockies #315429Good day, sunshine! I guess if the Cardinals have enough of them on hand, they can get by somehow. Or to fill the gap, they’ll go out and buy a rebounding type like May, who I bet that based on his track record, you gave him little hope to contribute when he was signed.
The #stlcards system was 1-3 on Wednesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Palm Beach RHS Brian Holiday, pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings on two hits and 12 Ks. Other standouts: Cooper Hjerpe, Nolan Gorman, Josiah Ragsdale, Rainiel Rodriguez and Gerardo Salas.… pic.twitter.com/gH4m0z2eZM

Interesting theory by Mr. Nestico. I don’t know him and whether or not he ever worked for an MLB team. I do know that having spoken with Randy Flores over the last decade that he consistently looks down on what he calls “third party publications”. Maybe he reads them in the closet or something.
The notion that MLB Teams don’t consider public rankings for prospect valuation is misinformed. Outlets like Baseball America, Baseball Prospectus, FanGraphs, etc. employ people that have decades of baseball experience (some with teams) and are the exact people that teams hire.…

There are just four teenage position players right now at the AA level. They are Leo De Vries, Jesus Made, Tate Southisene, and Rainiel Rodriguez.
There is just one teenage pitcher at the AA level right now. His name is Yhoiker Fajardo.
Of the 5 teenagers playing at the AA…

Hmmm. This interesting prediction (liked by 261 people!) suggests that Mr. Denton missed the fact that the Cardinals did not trade away a catcher at the deadline, that he is foreshadowing an injury before it occurs, that they are giving up on Crooks for now, or that they are going to start carrying four catchers!
Which is it? 😉
If you believe this will happen, please explain why if they haven’t found regular time for Crooks, how and why would they for Bernal? As you can tell, I am having a lot of trouble rationalizing this…
One would assume that surging catcher Leonardo Bernal would be up with the #STLCards by this weekend or next week with the way he’s swinging the bat. The Cards need to see him handle and hit against MLB pitching. https://t.co/gXeTX8Tkwz

Perhaps, as long as teams know there will a grace period to clean rosters up if the Rule 5 is slotted later than December, rather than canceled completely. (As a reminder, there was no Rule 5 in 2021.)
IMO, the real reason to not add players in November is that during the lockout, all 40-man players are locked out and contact between players and teams is prohibited. However, minor leaguers not on the 40-man will continue to work as usual. Their contract is offset by several years.
This is a big deal for player development in the off-season but even bigger if MLB regular season games are canceled. MiLB will continue as usual, but with a twist. Likely 10-12 players at each level will be assigned above their normal level. The first group would be Springfield players needed to replace the locked out 40-man players who would normally be at Memphis. The others are dominoes. From a negative situation, opportunity is created for others.
High-A Peoria swept Cedar Rapids before dropping the home opener to Quad Cities. #stlcards prospect Jack Gurevitch continued his otherworldly stretch before joining Tai Peete, Tanner Franklin and Yhoiker Fajardo in getting the call to Springfield. https://t.co/v5oKKvWDfv pic.twitter.com/kEi1MBA2xZ

Odds are high that Bloom’s first Rule 5 will not be until December 2027. The 2026 version will be one of the first events canceled when the lockout starts.
That was a typo in the transactions laundry list. The good news is that the players were on the correct rosters both on the Matrix and on the team roster pages. I have corrected the text. Thank you for pointing out my mistake.
Willie in private is exactly like he is in person. Quiet and down to earth. I was in minor league camp for two months and watched Willie’s approach every day. He was usually off to the side a bit, always watching. He would then pick his spot to engage a player 1-1.
We're back! @kyler416 and I cover the news of the week across the #stlcards system including promotions and awards. The #stlcards system was 3-2 on Tuesday. TCN's Players of the Day are the Memphis offense, which routed Nashville 13-2. Thomas Saggese, Colton Ledbetter, Leo Bernal and Ramon Mendoza led the way. What a day this has been!
I am pretty sure that in the years since the draft dropped from 50 rounds to 40 that I haven't written up 43 player transactions in one day – until now. Here is today's installment no. 2, with 21 #stlcards minor league moves. https://t.co/w1nCMxZgud pic.twitter.com/6qgjOynp87

The #stlcards Class-A Palm Beach club split their series at Fort Myers. Jonathan Mejía drove the offense, batting .389 on seven hits, including a homer and a double, and eight RBIs. Andrew Dutkanych is the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week. https://t.co/Cey8MlJlVO pic.twitter.com/THyeoC18fW

League average is different from rookie average. Consider the relevant population. We are not talking about MVP here.
I give credit to the award voters for being more enlightened about a player’s overall contribution. Others will keep the blinders on as it suits their narrower view of a world that has changed.
I do not select the minor league Players of the Day. Marilyn and Michael do, which by the way, has absolutely nothing to do with NL Rookie of the Year.

Some use stats that reflect total contribution. Others only focus on offense because the numbers are simple to track. Last I checked, it isn’t called “Offensive Rookie of the Year”.
I bet there are folks here who are still upset that Templeton was traded away for Ozzie.

In his last 7 outings, Mautz has given up 3, 0, 0, 2, 0, 3, and 3 runs. That’s 11 runs in 11.1 ip, with 12 walks. I’d guess they don’t think he’s ready, but think he has enough to offer that if they can let him develop more before throwing him to the wolves he might be ok.
Agreed. In neither of Mautz’s most recent two outings, could he get three outs before being pulled. Over his most recent four appearances, he gave up eight earned runs for an ERA of 18.50.
That doesn’t scream “I’m ready” to me. In all fairness, Mautz has only been a reliever for three weeks so giving him more time to adapt to pitching more frequently seems a good idea. It’s not like there is any reason to rush him.
All Ferguson cost is international cap money that it looks to me like they weren’t going to use. He will be gone after the season and by then, perhaps Mautz will be ready. In the meantime, they are at least trying to replace Romero for the rest of the season.
However, Kyle agrees with those who want to see Mautz now. We discussed this very subject on the podcast.
As TLR said, they are men, not machines.
