Monday With Walton and Reis – Trade Deadline Podcast is now available for your watching pleasure. @kyler416 and I detail the #stlcards Monday trades and the four new prospects who joined the system. And we'll be back Wednesday with our regular edition. https://t.co/77S1sCvbR6 pic.twitter.com/ZvJg1qci5Y

Fair point, Gags. May is finally starting to realize his potential.
Time will tell. In 1964, folks weren’t too high on that kid Lou Brock compared to the veteran starter Broglio.
Not saying either one of these prospects will become a Hall of Famer, but at this early stage, they both have legitimate upside that neither May nor JoJo provide. Two top 10 prospects in this system is good.
858 asked:
Where these guys will ne ranked in our system?
Both top 10, says Captain Obvious. Kyle and I will discuss on tonight’s podcast, but I am thinking of putting Frias just after Joshua Baez. Thinking about Frias vs. Bernal still.
Ragsdale may slot somewhere between pitchers Hjerpe, Cijntje and Clarke near the end of my top 10.
I am always interested in others’ opinions.
Gags said:
One other benefit of the May extravaganza is that he’s proof of concept. I’d think his experience would make it easier for us to sign some other pitcher to a one year for the next couple years.
I dunno. From the team view, perhaps. From the player. maybe less so.
If I was May, I might have wished I had signed somewhere else where I didn’t get flipped at the deadline for the second year in a row.
Trades are disruptive to players’ lives.
bling, at least two of us have already noted that the Brewers still have all of their top 10 prospects. One can be happy about the trade and still be realistic about the challenge ahead.
Special edition coming very soon.
It might even go out later tonight depending on how fast the podcast apps propagate. We won't wait! https://t.co/OlQ6BaOYIQ

And yet another…
This might be one of the best value returns of the deadline by the Cardinals. Alexander Frias has huge upside, destroying the Complex on his way to Low-A at 18.
Ragsdale has broken out big time. Improved contact point has helped him cut GB% by 22%. Exciting power/speed combo. https://t.co/oj2SmTU5k5 pic.twitter.com/dctKVx200A

National prospect watchers are loving the trade. But remember, the Brewers still have their entire Top 10!
I absolutely love this return for the Cardinals. Ragsdale is one of the biggest breakout names in all of MiLB, while Frias looks to be on the fast track to being a T-100 prospect.
Figured Ragsdale would be moved but getting Frias in the same package is an incredible return. https://t.co/5nkWtJCOen

THE CARDINALS ARE THIEVES
Alexander Frias is seen a Top 100 prospect around the league and was ranked as FanGraphs #43 prospect in their post-draft update. He projects to be a solid defender in the outfield with a good bat

From BA:
Alexander Frias joined our Top 100 in July. We slid him off as we added draftees, but he's slated to rejoin the Top 100 in our next update.
CF Josiah Ragsdale is also a massive up-arrow prospect. Wrote about him today for Hot Sheet. 1 HR away from a 20 2B, 20 HR, 30 SB season.

I think so, Gags. Some familiar guys are going to be on the outs.
For those who believe in BTV, the news is good:
Today the #Brewers reportedly acquired RHP Dustin May ($5.2M surplus trade value) and LHP JoJo Romero ($1.5M) from the #STLCards in exchange for OFs Alexander Frias ($23.1M) and Josiah Ragsdale ($4.5M).
The deal is rejected by our model as an overpay by Milwaukee.

Per Pipeline, Frias is no. 11 Brewers prospect, Ragsdale is no. 13.
Alexander Frias and Josiah Ragsdale are going to St. Louis in the trade, per source.

Some are critical of “fantasy” trades where defense is considered less important. Look at this one. To add Arraez and have him move back to second from first, the Phillies are changing their 1B, 2B, 3B and RF in the process. What could go wrong?
Don Mattingly said the plan is for Bryce Harper to play RF, Alec Bohm to play 1B and Bryson Stott to be at 3B. Luis Arraez will be here Tuesday. Mattingly said the Phillies will have to “ease” Harper into right field, and it’s unclear how they will do that.

Curious what others think. I don’t consider the Brewers equal to the Cubs in dislike level. I respect what the Brewers have accomplished and how they’ve done it.
Speaking of the Cubs.
The Chicago Cubs are acquiring left-hander Braxton Garrett in a trade with the Miami Marlins, sources tell ESPN.
— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) August 3, 2026
Sources tell me that Angels starter Reid Detmers has NOT been traded to the Cubs despite a report to the contrary.

Marilyn asked:
Why are we trading with the Brewers?
It would be nice if the Cards and Brewers were equals, but they are not. By the time the Cards are competitive with the Brewers, both May and Romero will be ex-Brewers. Maybe one or more of the prospects the Cards will receive becomes a true difference-maker.
It’s not like either couldn’t trade with another team – and they probably would. I am ok with it (not having seen what StL gets in return). The Brewers have a good farm system so I am hopeful the take is beneficial to the Cardinals.
Here it is. Wow! The Cubs and Brewers are in a real arms race.

The former Cardinal Weaver has fashioned himself a pretty good career.
Leave it to a Reds fan to explain to other Reds fans why their MLB co-RBI leader Sal Stewart may not be a better choice as NL Rookie of the Year than Wetherholt.
My goodness, this is getting old. Reds fans are starting to look silly.
This obviously isn’t going to be popular, but the whole point of the WAR stat is that it’s hard to find middle infielders that field well AND hit. And if Sal could do what Wetherholt does, we wouldn’t have… https://t.co/7WD9no2clg

Surprising how you were quiet when he was hot. No it isn’t.
Congratulations to RHP Andrew Dutkanych IV (A) on being named Florida State League Pitcher of the Week!
