Agree Brian!
1. The Rays & A’s stadium issues are still plagued by issues and risk falling apart.
2. TV situation needs to be resolved. I see the current situation as a “stop gap”.
3. Revenue disparity needs to be addressed. Playing field is getting severely slanted to the big market teams.
4. MLB expansion becomes difficult if the revenue gap is not addressed. Otherwise, they will end up creating two new small market teams. How does that benefit baseball?Helsley’s value is peaking right now. He has had injury issues in the past. It will be hard, if not impossible, to replace the level of productivity they got from him last season.
This team is in transition. You hold him or sign him to a long-term deal if the team is an odds-on favorite to win the Division or the League. You take on too much risk to hold him until the trade deadline to see what happens. I would shop him and see what interest you garner. You trade him if you get the offer you are looking for or something better.
November 7, 2024 at 6:28 pm in reply to: FOX selling regional sports networks to Disney to Sinclair to MLB??? #271386I am eagerly awaiting the price of the streaming option. I will be happy if it comes in at $20 per month.
I like the move of Contreras to 1B/DH. He is one of the best offensive players on the team and one of the better hitters in the league. Hopefully, it will reduce the wear and tear on his body and injuries.
No doubt he will have to put in time over the winter and spring to re-acclimate himself to playing in the field. You guys may recall that he started his career as a position player. I believe the majority of his innings were at third base. The Cubs converted him to a catcher during his age 20 season.
If the guys on MLB Radio are accurate than St. Louis is out. They were talking about Sasaki yesterday and they were stating the his preferred location is the Dodgers. He wants to play with Ohtani and Yamamoto.

Hebner was really a grave digger in the offseason? I knew he was a Cardinal killer! His career stat line versus the Trdbirds was .293/.372/.480/.852. Ugh!
October 22, 2024 at 5:57 pm in reply to: Cardinals New Player Development Hire – Rob Cerfolio #270249Agree Steve60! Looks like they nabbed a guy from an organization focused on player development. That is, an organization that uses best practices and has demonstrated success. Can’t wait to see additional moves.
October 21, 2024 at 7:06 pm in reply to: FOX selling regional sports networks to Disney to Sinclair to MLB??? #270137Brian, you are correct. It is bring rumored that Bally will drop the Cardinals unless they get a new deal.
October 21, 2024 at 4:46 pm in reply to: FOX selling regional sports networks to Disney to Sinclair to MLB??? #270131A few opinions …
1. Not sure the Cardinals will be able to attain $75M in revenue. Bally was paying that amount to the Cards and were not able to make money. Assuming that is why they dropped the Cardinals.
2. A solution must include both local broadcast and streaming options. The fan base is divided as to how they currently get the games – cable package versus streaming.
3. Cable option has to be offered at a reasonable price to avoid being locked out of some TV markets.
Would like to see blackout policy go away. I am sure it will be part of the negotiation with cable providers.
Carter, it would be very hard to turn down Yogi. He finished with the following career numbers: Batting Average = .285, On Base Pct = .348, Slug Pct = .482, OPS = .830, OPS+ = 125 and War of 59.5. In addition, 1TD cited his Pennants, WS Wins and MVPs. He stacks up well against the others.
Something to condsider … Casey Stengel credited Yogi with a major reason for the success his Yankee Teams had. He was their primary catcher for many years.
I am taking an optimistic view of this move. I am guessing this firing could be the first step in reconfiguring the approach to hitting within the Cardinal organization. I would expect that Bloom would have a large say in who gets hired at the major league level. You want this individual’s approach to dove tail with the approach of how you plan to develop and promote hitters through the organization. A one year and done hire will not do much for the organization.

Will be interesting to see how the Cardinals will play this out.
It will be interesting to see how ownership will manage the restructure. I am sure the player development side of the business will be overhauled by Bloom and those he hires. I wonder if they give him a year to solely focus on the revamp of player development while Mo is left to put together the big league club for the final year of his contract (with firm guardrails). If so, I would expect collaboration in decision making on player moves.
September 9, 2024 at 6:22 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #144 thread – Tuesday, Sept. 10 vs. Reds #266960Agree 1TD! I remember my family and I watched the classic Dolphin-Chief OT Playoff game in that stadium. Some classic Chief-Raider match ups as well. I seem to recall the Raiders kicking a long field goal to win a game. Hank Stram had Morris Stround (6’10” Tight End) stand on the goal line to swat down a low trajectory kick!
Found this:
Agree with Brian’s take. It is tome to make changes and it has to start at the top. Will be interesting to see how events unfold and who the organization will get to fill these roles.
I am convinced the Cardinals will reduce payroll going into next season. IMO, Ownership has been dropping hints all along. The TV contract is the cake and reduced attendance is the icing. There is a reason Bloom was brought in … look at him being more active in the decision making process moving forward.
Not exactly sure what to expect this offseason. However, I do not believe signing big dollar free agents is in their plans.

August 25, 2024 at 11:28 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #130 thread – Sunday, August 25 at Twins #265527Weren’t they also playing games with ventilation system?
I seem to remember Herzog complained to MLB. He thought they were pumping air through the giant vents behind home plate … only when the Twins were batting. MLB rejected his criticism.
Years later the one of the guys in charge of the ventilation admitted to monkeying with the system. He claimed he turned the system on in the later innings of games to help the Twins. The Twins and Metrodome management claimed they were unaware of this activity.
August 25, 2024 at 3:56 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #130 thread – Sunday, August 25 at Twins #265473Agree! Would like to see the team finish strong. Especially the young position players!
August 23, 2024 at 11:24 am in reply to: StL 2024 Game #128 thread – Friday, August 23 at Twins #265257Cards need to keep things rolling. Hoping for a good outcomes against the Twins this weekend!
I hate to say it, but I would be shocked if Ownership releases Mo before his contract is completed. As such, I fully expect Oli to be back as well. They just hate to eat contracts.
Not saying it is the right thing to do. It has just been the way they have historically operated.
