That’s #40 for the AS closer. He needs 9 more to pass Rosenthal for the Redbird single season saves record.
A series win is nice. We will probably have to win every series left, including some sweeps, to make the playoffs. But there’s a chance, I suppose.
25 – if they win every series from here on (3 of 4 or 2 of 3) without sweeping, it would leave the team at 87 wins. That’s probably not enough to make the playoffs. 88 or 89 might get there. That’s around where Atlanta and the Mets look to be headed. So yeah, winning every series and sweeping a couple is the ticket. Almost zero chance of catching Milwaukee though. 2 series wins in a row is a start.
They do have the Cockroaches from North Tijuana on the schedule next for 4 games. I mean you’d really like to see them winning 3-4 before heading to NYC and seeking out 1 win possibly.
A nice competitive next 5 weeks is all I can hope for. It’ll be disappointing for a handful of posters if they manage to accomplish that.

Noot with a timely, clutch hit in the 8th against a very good reliever. Haven’t had enough of these type of key hits this season.

We went off script taking a road series from a team much better than us. I was wrong, wrong, wrong in my assessment of how this series would play out.
But that’s why they play the games. You just never know. It probably won’t keep happening and we will get spanked by most of the better teams. But sneaking a winning series here and there is a good tonic for what ails us. And we are talking about highly professional athletes here. Any team can knock off any other at any time in any place.
Well, they’re back to even after taking consecutive series from two teams with winning records. The next 10 games won’t provide any bargains, so I’d say the primary goal is to maintain an appearance that could be termed as respectable.
I’m not sure the game was ‘gifted to us’ either. The Twins middle infield defense is not very good and that’s why they lost.
Personally, I love seeing the Twins lose. I still haven’t gotten over the 1987 World Series which was played in the
Minneapolis Metrodome. The acoustics in it were so bad that when the fans got overly loud the sound caused partial hearing loss in some players.I was in attendance at all four games of the 1987 Series at the Dome. The day after Game 1, my ears were still ringing. I have never experienced anything like it at a ballpark, before or after. I wore earplugs there after that.
It was not due to bad acoustics. The Twins were long suspected of pumping crowd noise in. Later it was pretty much verified by several involved.
Now that you mention it, I do remember that the Twins were pumping crowd noise into the Metrodome during the World Series, which, IMO, is saying that the Twins deliberately cheated. In 2023 they won their first playoff series in 21 years. I hope it’s another 21 years before they win another playoff series.
Weren’t they also playing games with ventilation system?
I seem to remember Herzog complained to MLB. He thought they were pumping air through the giant vents behind home plate … only when the Twins were batting. MLB rejected his criticism.
Years later the one of the guys in charge of the ventilation admitted to monkeying with the system. He claimed he turned the system on in the later innings of games to help the Twins. The Twins and Metrodome management claimed they were unaware of this activity.
The primary reason the Cardinals lost the ’87 WS that was they didn’t score as many runs as the Twins did in game 7. It can also be said that Terry Pendleton only had a total of 7 AB’s and Jack Clark had 0 AB’s during that WS. And you can’t even use those two facts as legitimate excuses because injuries are part of the game just as was the bad call at 1B two years earlier. To win, you have to overcome adversity. Same as it ever was. In any case, to place any blame on crowd noise or a draft from a ventilation system is a bit of reach in my view.
