Some of the moves proposed on this thread may very well happen. But here’s what WDWJr’s means be ‘reset’.
The first move seems to have been removing Girsch from
VP & General Manager, and appointing him as VP of Special Projects. I’ve never seen a description of what that is. I would, Le Grand. In addition to the 3 AL MVP awards, Yogi has some numbers that are astounding. Take a look at the number of K’s during his 1950 season in which he amassed 656 PA’s while placing .322/28/124 in the books. Larry was no joke.
Haha…Here’s a good one…Yogi Berra played 19 seasons and K’d 414 times. Mark Reynolds K’d 434 times in 2 seasons.

According to this writer he seems to believe Thompson will have one more option year but I know some others view that differently.
He also states that Gorman is not arb eligible in 2025, which MLBTR agrees with but Cot’s does not. They have Gorman listed with an arb salary for 2025.
I guess we will find out in due time.
Gorman should not be eligible. I had no idea about Thompson though until I read this. Skyriec is known for his extreme detail with digging into contracts and transactions. He’s a lawyer by trade so that makes sense.

Thompson may be eligible for a fourth option. He has to have played five years or less. His drafted year of 2019 doesn’t count because he played less than 90 days. 2020 was COVID. It has to be requested, though. It isn’t automatic.
I haven’t seen the Super Two cutoff for 2025 yet, but even so, I don’t think Gorman made it because he was sent down on August 21. I have him at 2.114. The cutoff for 2024 was 2.132.
Perhaps Cots did not notice he did not spend the entire season in the majors. I trust them on money, but service time tracking may not be their forte.
Cots has Gorman finishing 2023 with 1.139 service yrs/days. With a full season in 2025 he would have surpassed the 2024 cutoff of 2.132, by 7 days (at 2.139).
Instead, he missed roughly 40 days?
I guess 2.100Carter, it would be very hard to turn down Yogi. He finished with the following career numbers: Batting Average = .285, On Base Pct = .348, Slug Pct = .482, OPS = .830, OPS+ = 125 and War of 59.5. In addition, 1TD cited his Pennants, WS Wins and MVPs. He stacks up well against the others.
Thompson has his attributes, but if he can’t get it over the plate by now, he never will. He just hasn’t progressed, and he has his hands full with AAA lineups. That’s not to say he won’t have a good outing, but its rolling the dice, similar to sending Liby out there, but worse.
Yogi is usually considered a top 2 or 3 all-time catcher in most lists of those sort of things. He and Johnny Bench are usually two of the best.
A great catcher is not a bad place to build a team around if you are using only position players.
Ruth, Mays, Mantle, and Aaron are good places to start as well. People forget Ruth was a terrific athlete in his prime. He gets portrayed today as a fat, slow guy that only hit home runs, but look at his results in hi age 25-30 years. He could run, had a great arm, and slugged like no one ever did. He changed the game.
Before too long we may see Ohtani as the clear number one. He had some great years in Anaheim, but for now he is a DH so he is not there. An incredible DH and great base runner, but not being out there on defense compromises him. If he plays defense again and pitches, he will climb the charts.
I just said Yogi ’cause he’s good luck…Haha! But yeah, he put up some tremendously impressive numbers and I really wish I would have been around to have seen him play.
Yogi had quick wrists – he would generate bat speed with quick wrist snaps a bit like Hank Aaron.
It’s a wonder Cardinal scouts did not see that when he tried out with them. But as Bill James wrote, Yogi was kind of funny looking and did not seem like a baseball player. Scouts tended to write him off because he looked more like a bartender than a ball player.
The FO should be advertising Walker as a potential MVP once he leaves STL. Opposing GMs are lining up to grab him and prove Mozeliak is right. It happens over and over and over and over again.
Sure sounds like a rebuild to me.

I don’t know about a classic rebuild. But I’d say, for sure, that this signifies that Godschmidt won’t be back, and Arenado, Contreras, Lynn, and possibly, Gibson will be shopped. They might not even need a total rebuild with players like Crooks, Matthews, McGreevy, Hence, and possibly, Baker and Svanson on the cusp of being big league players. Then, there’s Sagesse who had an off year in 2024, and Wetherholt and Davis not too far behind, plus the emergence of a surprise or two. I’m not sure classic tanking is even possible now since the team with the worst record is no longer guaranteed the first overall pick.
For context, Mozeliak said he has not spoken to all of the veterans yet and gave no indication what any of them said (‘trade me’ or ‘keep me’, for example).
He also said he doesn’t know yet about payroll because revenue streams not set.
In other words, we don’t know any more about these matters than we did this morning.

Well, that’s that. I thought Gibson was 50/50. Not surprising at all about the other two. Given all the starting pitching injuries other teams continuously experience and how having some reliable innings is valuable, I thought they could sign and then trade Gibson for at least a small net value. But that may have been seen as the wrong thing to do for Kyle so I get it. This just about guarantees a spot for McGreevey.
