Looks like one of the Cleveland staff is coming over. Could be a good move; we will see.

Cerfolio has some sound experience and a nice resume. I hope that they don’t pay him too much as we are on a very strict budget.
Considering Cleveland’s track record of developing players (especially pitching) and doing more with less I would think they would be a prime organization to poach from. Good job Bloom.

Chaim Bloom became VP of Baseball Operations for the Rays at age 31.
Theo Epstein became GM of the Red Sox at age 28.
It is a different world out there.
A great move and the first major step in rebuilding this organization! He knows how to develop players on a small market budget and that is what we need!
Rob kind of looks like a preppy know-it-all type. In this case, let’s hope he does know-it-all when it comes to baseball personnel. I have a strong hunch that this is an extremely good hire. But how long can we keep him? I’ll put the over/under at 3 years. I bet Rat wishes that pic of Rob was extended out a bit so that we could take a gander at his date standing next to him. Could it be Front Row Amy?? Cleveland and Milwaukee are geographically not that far apart. Just think if those two love birds were to join hands in matrimony. Rat would be in heaven having Front Row Amy front and center in Busch.
Agree Steve60! Looks like they nabbed a guy from an organization focused on player development. That is, an organization that uses best practices and has demonstrated success. Can’t wait to see additional moves.
The thing I liked reading about him was that he was a pitcher at Yale and was actually drafted by the dodgers but chose not to sign and completed his schooling there. A playing career + degree from Yale makes a nice combo. Now get that tall Eli Chris Young to be surprise GM and I’ll believe in Santa Claus

It’s incredibly difficult to capture in words what it’s meant to be a Cleveland Guardian the last 9 years. The time here has brought me some of my greatest memories, a family, and friends that will last a lifetime.
As many of you have heard, Jaime, Coop and I were recently presented an opportunity with the St. Louis Cardinals. A decision we didn’t take lightly, as the thought of leaving our Cleveland family was extremely difficult. And that is a direct result of the quality of people throughout the entire organization.
I am so beyond grateful to have been apart of this team, city and culture. I feel indebted to each and every one of you guys for the friendship, the highs on and off the field, and the all learning moments. This place has shaped me into the person I am today and who I want to be in the future. CLE will always be our home, and I can’t wait to watch all of your successes moving forward.
Guards’ Staff and Players — thank you guys for challenging me and yourselves each and every day. You guys are the reason I’ve been excited to drive into work for nine consecutive years, and I’ll miss you all deeply. Don’t waste a rep to get better each and every day! Please stay in touch. Looking at the CLE staff directory, one thing I noted is that they have 15 director level positions in baseball operations (one of which was Cerfolio). They also have a bunch of assistant directors.
It may just be titles, but the Cards are very thin in comparison.
Bling everyone is really exited about this hire. I would be worried about you if you offered anything positive. But I did chuckle at the “carpet walker” reference. Apropros.
I was referencing Brian’s comment above about all the directors of this and that and assistant directors that Cleveland has. I wonder if they have more boots on the ground too.
We should probably have in the back of our minds that Bloom was run out of Boston and the fans are happy he’s gone. Oh, but he improved the farm. Which translates to what? The Red Sox won less games than us this year.
Probably. In some towns if you trade away somebody who goes on to postseason glory, you get fired. Obviously St. Louis is not such a town. Maybe that’s why Bloom signed on.
The rumor was that Bloom was essentially tasked with trading Betts away and then building the farm. It’s never good when you’re almost forced into trading a player away. We find out with all of the guys whose value dwindles to near nothing and then they suddenly find themselves playing good baseball when they get out of here.
Bloom was hired by Boston to transtion them away from the Dave Dobrowski “win now and gut the farm” model to more of a “build from within and player development model”. Bloom apparently was having some success in beefing up the Boston farm system however Boston fans are not known for their patience especially if they are behind the Yankees in the standings so they started screaming bloody murder. Ownership panicked and canned Bloom.
