So they are controlling the shifts. I can still put my ss next to second and my 3b close to him. Or the other way around for a righty.
How are they going to ban the shift? First what constitutes a shift? Moving during a bunt? bringing the infield in? If my ss is to the right of 2nd base, can I move my 3rd baseman to SS position? Can I play my 2B just to left of second and move my 1b to the hole away from the line? Who makes the call and when? What are the guidelines that makes a shift illegal? Hit it where they ain’t problem solved. I should be able to position my players as I see fit.
We will see won’t we be if 2018 is accident or not. I don’t why some people choose to ignore the possibility that 2018 was indeed an accident. But what gets me the most is being told this: “It was a signing nobody should be faulting, in my opinion.” Well I beg to differ.
I don’t care about the money but the timing. He has had one MLB excellent year. I would have paid more but waited for the 2019 results.
Lets wait to see how it works before we tell others we should not be faulting the signing. Mikolas had a great season I would have waited for season number two results. 68 million is a lot of money based on one year results. I am hoping it works out but I do reserve my right that they should have waited in my opinion.
It was premature to extend him now. But most people think is a smart cost savings in case he has another great season driving his price up. On the other hand there is the risk he won’t be as good for the duration of the contract. So there was risk either way. I would have waited but the cost savings won the day.
The comparison between Goldy and Pujols holds up to a point. How much are they willing to pay Goldy as he ages. As far as Goldy goes he may want to take the gamble to test FA thinking he may get more years from a foolish or desperate owner. If the Cards want to lock him up now they might have to overpay. As far as his family maybe they think he owes himself to get the longest best possible deal and the process might be worth it.
There will be some opt-out opportunities in the deal, Joel Sherman of the New York Post tweets, though a host of other reports have indicated to the contrary. Sherman says that other details remain to be sorted out as well.

I agree but they did have a superstart both years. They haven’t since. Goldy may or may not be the superstart they have been lacking but he sure is on the wrong side of 30.
So if the make the playoffs whether as division winners of wildcard it will validate their current model going forward? We will see going forward how many years of making the playoffs without a title will be good enough. I am not getting any younger.
Of course is not a slam dunk, nothing is but the stay the course has them going backwards since 2011. I know the did go the WS in 2013 so lets say since 2014. This year I can see taking a step forward mainly because of Goldy but as the team is constructed right now I see a wildcard spot. We can see what happens in the playoffs. Short of a title is not good enough to validate their current model. I know I am in the minority but just making the playoffs gets old. Take a risk a big one it may or may not work nothing is for sure. But at least you tried something different. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is not wise.
who cares what Molina thinks? He has become such a diva. He was my favorite Cardinal but he has become so full of himself in the past few years.
To sign Goldy now they will have to overpay some. Not saying is bad or good that they do that. He got burned with his first contract and that was his fault but he has one last chance to get paid and this is it. He would have to be overwhelmed by the offer not to test the FA market. Just my opinion but I haven’t read anything from his side that he is looking for a deal now.
