ParticipantThey announced the roster already. No need to guess. MLB.com dude

ParticipantSure did! Flaherty was excellent. Fowler not looking good at all. Wong and Bader still looking for their swing. For the Marlins Gallen has looked great other than the homer by Goldy.
NJ315
ParticipantGoldy is locked in! 1-0 Cards

ParticipantAt the end of the day it is a matter of preference I am very happy Goldy is signed but all things being equal I rather had Harper. But it is rather a moot point so I am moving on.

ParticipantNot a good outing for Mikolas so far. But he did homer.

Participant1B was not an area of need. I am fine with having Goldy but keeping Carp at first and getting a left hitting OF was a least an equally good option or maybe even better.
NJ315
ParticipantMuch better

ParticipantReyes 7 IP 6 BB 8 K
Hicks 6 IP 7 BB 11 KNJ315
ParticipantYounger fans eat and drink more, buy much more than just jersey’s. As a draw to fans Harper is a much better draw than Goldy and would bring more money than Goldy. But this is the only point you had a problem with?

ParticipantInteresting discussion. I wanted Harper for various reasons.
1. Age
2. Lefty hitter
3. Preferred getting OF over 1B. I wanted Carp to stay at 1B
4. He is overhyped but he still a good player and I was willing to overpay because he generates lots of different revenue streams. He brings attitude some may say bad attitude and that may be true but attitude is something this team hasn’t had since Albert left.
5. He will bring in the millenial fans and create a younger more enthusiastic crowd.I never thought or expected him to be better than Goldy, just a better fit for the team overall. Overpaying and giving him 10 years was the price I thought it was fair to pay.
At the end it doesn’t matter. We have Goldy and he an elite player no doubt about that. But we are not getting 26-31 Goldy. We are getting 31-36 Goldy and he will decline there is no doubt how much remains to be seen. Harper can flame out too even at his age.
My only objection to this discussion is how dismissive the pro Goldy crowd is of those of us that preferred Harper. Harper is not and may never be as good as Goldy. The hubris in declaring Goldy the clear cut better choice for the team is annoying.

ParticipantWebb and Robinson I am hoping. But I was wrong about Pena so it will be Brebbia and Munoz. I am so good at this being wrong stuff it is scary.
NJ315
ParticipantThat’s why I love baseball! We will find out in the coming years whether Harper’s best years are indeed ahead of him and whether Goldy will stay predictably boring or decline with age.
NJ315
ParticipantThe one lefty assured of a bullpen spot has an ugly 1.88 WHIP. One thing I am excellent at is being wrong. I did not like the Norris signing last year and did not like Miller this year. So no worries I will be wrong again.
NJ315
ParticipantI can’t stand listening to him. He is annoying. I rather listen to the opposing team broadcast. Lucky I only listen when they are playing in the west coast and Shannon only does home games.
NJ315
ParticipantYou were right. It will depend on how he ages. Obviously it is the majority opinion that he will age well and that will make it a great deal. I am not so sure he wll but is a done deal so hope for the best.
NJ315
ParticipantClose to signing extension with Cards 5/110
NJ315
ParticipantYadi’s choice is Pena. Enough said. Pack your bags Weiters.
NJ315
ParticipantIt seems when he plays third the back goes. Just an observation no scientific data to back up this at all.
NJ315
ParticipantGoldy homers!
NJ315
ParticipantWell he is not alone on that department…Ozuna, Fowler, Molina haven’t done much either. Ozuna has been downright pathetic. It is only spring training Wieters will be fine once it is for real. The other three will be fine too.
NJ315
ParticipantO’Neill hits #5
NJ315
ParticipantSome ugly OPS numbers. Good thing this is only dress rehearsal.
NJ315
ParticipantHard to pick they separated Fowler and Ozuna.
NJ315
ParticipantI am all for compromise. If the shift rules are what you said. I am fine with it.
NJ315
ParticipantRidiculous is not hitting the ball through all that open space.
