Its replies like CC’s that I wish this site offered the use of GIFs. There’s a pretty good Eddy Murphy GIF that would be appropriate.
February 17, 2019 at 5:11 pm #82104Semantics aside I’m thinking that the only two contenders that are offering offers that will get Harper’s attention are the Phillies and Nationals. I would be surprised if he doesn’t end up with one of those two.
February 17, 2019 at 5:13 pm #82106From Twitter this afternoon. Talk about the chief of lost causes…
If you the fans actually want Bryce Harper, it can be done. We need to become organized. We need to PRESSURE DeWitt into doing this. Let's start a legit movement. #STLCards

February 17, 2019 at 5:19 pm #82109I don’t know who Cory is but he obviously has no clue what is going on.
February 17, 2019 at 6:17 pm #82115Bryce Harper, who has been waiting for someone to meet his price, appears to have found that team in the #Phillies. There is no deal yet but he will ultimately receive more than the 10-year, $300 million contract he turned down from the #Nats in September.

February 19, 2019 at 1:40 pm #82240Padres are pulling off one surprise (once Manny’s finalized) but here’s another shocker : they aren’t ruling out Bryce Harper, too. 110M payroll (with MM) is still lower than most.

February 19, 2019 at 11:01 pm #82271February 20, 2019 at 9:09 am #82299I think Harper is down to the Phillies and Nationals. Anyone else signing him at this point would be a huge surprise.
February 20, 2019 at 11:32 am #82320The Cards have a guy in O’Neill who could well provide Harper production or better at a tiny fraction of the price. Sure, he’s not a guaranteed thing but I see no reason to throw down the insane $$ for Harper.
February 23, 2019 at 9:31 pm #82663Truth or controlled leak to try to drive up the offers? This reaction to Heyman led me to laugh.

February 25, 2019 at 8:55 am #82741#Dodgers’ interest in Harper is short-term, sources tell The Athletic. After turning down #Nationals’ $300M, Boras/Harper obviously want to go long. If short-term is in play, other teams also might jump in. All hinges on whether #Phillies are willing to top $300M and close deal.

February 25, 2019 at 9:00 am #82742It seems to me that if Harper signs with the Phillies it will only be because they were the high bidder. I get the impression he would prefer not to go there or he would have already done it. His preferences all along were probably the Cubs, Dodgers, and Yankees but those teams have stayed out of it for the most part.
February 25, 2019 at 9:18 am #82746The news is that Harper met with the Dodgers yesterday. My guess is they put a big AAV, short term deal on the table. If it is big enough, it might allow Boras to claim the highest annual salary ever, rather than go for the longest, biggest contract ever. What we don’t know is if the Phillies topped the Machado deal, which is the new high-water mark.

February 25, 2019 at 12:47 pm #82762That can’t be for Harper. Just one armored car. He’ll need at least two. 😉
February 26, 2019 at 1:58 pm #82831More on #Dodgers as possible Bryce Harper destination: As a wise baseball friend reminded me, the Dodgers’ front office was known to admire Nolan Arenado, who as of today is no longer an option. Suddenly, there is more room in the team’s future budget. @MLB @MLBNetwork

February 26, 2019 at 2:03 pm #82832Dang, Boras is good. He is even out-waiting NEXT YEAR’s free agents! 😉
February 26, 2019 at 3:22 pm #82841Brian, we need to give you the Boras Challenge. If you can go 24 hours w/o mentioning his name you win a 12 pack of Coke Zero or the soft drink of your choice. :o)
February 26, 2019 at 4:04 pm #82846For the record, you mentioned him first today – on the Rumors thread. So there’s that… 😉
February 26, 2019 at 9:24 pm #828911982 willieParticipantI think harper in my opinion should bet on himself. if the dodgers are will to give 35 to 40 million a year for a shorter contract, id do it over a long term deal with the phillies. then if he shows that hes worth it, they probably would go back and extend him down the road. I still feel he is a better offensive option all around than what the cardinals have in the outfield by quite a bit and having him around for a while could have been nice but alas its not to be.
February 28, 2019 at 10:17 am #83023I first posted this on the Mikolas thread, but it fits better here.
VEB wrote about the Cards and Harper this morning, taking what I believe is a very balanced view of a decision that is not black and white.

February 28, 2019 at 2:05 pm #83063NJ315ParticipantHarper’s deal sets a new record, as Bowden first suggested. It’s a $330MM guarantee over thirteen years, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.com (Twitter links), with no opt-outs included.
