It is a bad contract if he doesn’t regain form. He got the contract based on what he did we will see if he can deliver. You are sure he will be back to 2018 level good for you I can see there is not a clueless bone in you.
He played for the Orioles he is used to losing but now he gets paid handsomely for it. Who knows the Padres maybe good enough to win in a few years.
I thought he would be better in the pen. I think this will make it more likely he will be in the pen. Not sure what the long-term implications for his career may be.
The point is that blaming the players without holding the owners accountable is wrong. The greed is two-sided and owners haven’t been held accountable. That was my point. Of course those owners were greedy. Whenever billionaires find ways to keep the lion share of the pie they are greedy.
There is no correct or incorrect %. What should be the “correct” % the owners should keep? Last year with record revenue the player’s share was the lowest since 2012. Players will need to structure their contract to address escalating revenues. I don’t care about millionaires fighting billionaires but why should the owners not be held accountable for the high share of revenue they keep? We are quick to point that players don’t deserve what they get but owners do? why? The players drive the revenue. We need hold them both accountable. I am tired of just hearing about greedy players let’s talk about greedy owners also. Maybe one day people will stop spending money on baseball and this discussion will be moot.
No, owners should be held accountable for the percentage of revenue they keep. If not giving the players a bigger share then lower ticket prices and make the game more affordable. But raking in record revenues and then crying economic pressure is not going to fly. If they don’t want to give long term contracts perfectly understandable. But not paying the players just to keep a larger piece of the pie is not right. The players make them money not the other way around.
Even if Carp read the message boards I doubt he would say anything different. He feels that way and he should. I am still not sold on this team too many questions but if Miller, Ozuna, and Fowler rebound then I would agree.
Well Mo just said the magical words yesterday “I think for us, we are pretty confident in what we have” Now I think he said that the last three seasons also, maybe every season.
Owners are like most business owners show me the revenue. They make their money because of the players but like most business employees are just commodities/inputs nothing less nothing more.
Record revenue for 2018 payroll down. How about lowering ticket prices since they don’t think the players deserve a higher share of the revenue? I am amazed that fans are ok with owners keeping the lion share of their hard earned money. I rather the spend more on the product on the field but if not lower the prices for fans. They call players greedy but the owners get a pass. Amazing.
Not having the DH in the NL is ridiculous. Get over yourselves NL owners and please stop being so stubborn. The only place in baseball where there is no DH is the NL. Very annoying.
Smart or not they better do something and quick to fix the game pace. As baby boomers die baseball will lose its biggest fan base. I am all in for all those changes. They have to bring the game up to speed no pun intended with the fact that the attention span of younger fans is that of a gnat. Competing entertainment sources will kill baseball. The game as it is now is slow and boring make changes that will make the game relevant again or suffer the consequences. That is the bottom line for both players and owners.
I agree that Madbum or Kluber would make us better than the Cubs and Brewers. But I am not holding my breath.
2019 great season all good. If less than great then all this will be come back. I am rooting for a great season for him.
The owners are making more money than ever and yet ticket prices go up and payrolls down. I have no sympathy for millionaires fighting billionaires over our money but blaming the “greedy” players as the main reason for the higher costs of attending games is not correct.
The owners like most business owners will stay millionaires/billionaires no matter what. The players have much more to lose so they better get someone on board that speaks billionaire language and can actually negotiate for them. I see very clearly where the players are coming from the numbers don’t lie but anger or outrage won’t help them. A sound argument backup by real numbers and a plan on how to make it a better system will.
I thought every team’s goal from spring training is the win the WS. One achieves it the other 29 fail at different junctures. The but we are always in the hunt for the division title/wildcard mix is getting stale. Aim higher. I don’t want guarantees. I want a better plan.
Winning the division it is great but playing in the post-season and not winning the WS is a failure crap shoot or not.
I don’t think they are cheap but I do think the are very committed to their business model. As long as the model works they will be fine. the only question is what will they do if/when the model doesn’t yield the results the fans expect. Being on the playoff hunt every year enough? Getting deep into the playoffs but not winning a WS in the next decade or so enough? The farther away we get from 2011 the fans will get restless. I for one do not like their approach but I can quickly learn to love it with a WS win. Short of winning the WS is not good enough.

Exactly Pads. 2018 was a revenue record year and yet the players got the lowest percentage of revenue since 2012. But the ticket prices go up. They pay the players less, keep more of the revenue, and still raise prices. It is not about feeling sorry for billionaires against millionaires is about fairness. The players make the owners money not the other way around.
