I’ve certainly warmed to the idea of picking Matz up in free agency after the year.

I would rather slide down a razor blade banister into a pool of alcohol than bring Matz back. Needless to say, Matz is not one of my favorites. He essentially stole $44 million from the Cardinals’ fans and other baseball fans during the past 4 years.

With all do respect, the Cardinals’ website’s Top 30 looks promising, INHO.

The Cardinals released Tanner Jacobsen and Brayden Jobert today. I kind of liked Jobert.

Well they’re both plenty young. Now they can go out and get a real job. If they like manual labor, they may one day find themselves monitoring and managing AI workers.

Another throwing error by Gorman on Monday, August 28. I wonder if some team will still try using him on the infield, or will they just be glad to have him as their DH. Bad defense is painful to watch so I’m looking forward to Arenado’s return. The good news is that the kid has already made his first million with more to come.

I’m so disgusted with Pallante, and with Liberatore who is running a close second at the end of the pack. I’m just afraid that neither of them will ever be able to figure it out. It might help if their coaches draw out on a chalkboard where the strike zone is. I think what I’m trying to say is that they both have very good stuff. But they just can’t handle the pressure unless everything is going perfectly for them.

Tampa – 3 Million population (just build a new stadium)
Charlotte – 2.8 million population (go for it)
Salt Lake City – 2.7 million population (nut that’s stretching it to all the surrounding towns)
Portland – 2.5 million population (But who wants to invest in that place. No police. Riots every night, Overloaded with vagrants. Rain every other night.) No thanks.
Nashville . Population 1.35 million. Nice place for a minor league franchise. Sell out every game for about two years. Then start looking for a new buyer of the team.
Austin – Nice place to visit. Can’t support an MLB team. Just not enough people living there yet.

Synopsis – Tampa stays where it is. but somebody has to cough up the dough for a new stadium. Las Vegas is the given destination for the A’s (although rumor has it that people are starting to want to get out of that place.) Charlotte looks like the prime candidate for a new NLB franchise, I’d choose Salt Lake City next, although Nashville seems like a cozy destination for a multibillionaire who has nothing better to spend his money on, sort of like Steve Cohen of the Mets.

Thanks so much, Bob. What struck me was his age of 17 years old. He’ll definitely be one that I’ll keep tabs on.

If Hjerpe’s health does happen to hold up, he’s going to be really tough to hit as a rotation piece. If they make him a LF reliever, that would settle our left-handed relief problem for as long as he can stay healthy.

This is off topic, but I don’t think it merits its own thread yet. So here’s my burning question… What the heck is 17 year old Kenly Hunter doing ranked in the Cardinals organization’s Top 30??

Can’t explain exactly why, but I have always imagined Wetherholt as a second baseman. Not sure he has the range and the arm for 3rd. I see Donovan as a top defensive player, not on the level of a Rolen or an Arenado, but top tier at defense. He just lacks some of the power you’d like to see coming from a third baseman. We might have some big time power lining up for the outfield, IMO. Love to see them find a first baseman that hits for big time power, but none in sight so far.

I get your point. Everybody wants to see a slugger at 3B. So do I. the next two years of Nado’s hitting will be frustrating to say the least. Hope they can trade him over the offseason and let’s see what Donovan looks like at 3B.

That’s a surprise to me, also. I thought we would have to start at 11th or so also.

IMO, Gorman should be DH most of the time. He’s getting better and better at hitting the ball. His throws are embarrassing and his range is inadequate for 3B. As long as my opinion really is just an opinion, I’ll say that Gorman is playing 3B so they can showcase him as trade bait for the coming offseason. I get your logic and it makes sense. But after watching Rolen and Arenado play third base, I have a hard time thinking of Gorman playing there regularly. I will acknowledge that Gorman could be out of synch because he played mostly 3B in college and the minors, and he was taken away from his natural position when Arenado came to town. But I didn’t think his defense at 2B was anything to rave about either. If we take Gorman out of the running for 3B, I don’t know who could handle it other than probably Donovan, so far. Maybe Jesus Baez could, one day. But that’s to be determined.

Right now he’s neither. He’s made quite a few throwing errors but even worse – he appears to have very limited range – he simply doesn’t get to balls that, while not errors, are extra hits for the opposition.

I’m rooting for him, too. But, truth be told, his range at 2B wasn’t that good, either…. and then there are those atrocious throwing errors. He’s still young and he’s been improving as a hitter. He’ll make his millions as somebody’s DH, IMHO.

I’m thinking that Wetherholt is our second baseman going forward. I still like Donovan at third base although you’d like to see more power out of a corner infielder. Saggese is my second pick for third base. I’m not convinced that he has the defense for 3B. But he has not at all reached his ceiling as a hitter, IMO.

Well now, it’s time to find out what he can do at the major league level. He certainly deserves this call up based on his numbers alone. I’m looking forward to seeing how his arm plays. Those were some impressive accolades regarding his arm from the pundits at BA. Now if they can only find a way to give Koperniak the chance he deserves.

I greatly prefer optimism and hope over pessimism and negativity, also. My optimism and hope turns out to be misguided at times (and I don’t want to call out the players that come to mind). But I still prefer anticipating success to expecting failure. And I’m not saying I’m Pollyanna about everything. It’s just that I reject the constant cynicism. It all boils down to a conscious choice.

Helsley and Maton both having terrible outings again tonight! Rangers and Mets didn’t get much it seems!

So far it doesn’t look like the Cardinals got much either, unless you want to count Jesus Baez for the time being. Hopefully, 2026 tells a different story about the trades the Cardinals made at this years trade deadline.

I noticed that Josh Baez was in centerfield for Springfield last night.

One of the things that I thoroughly dislike about the Cubs is their owner, Tom Ricketts. All he does is bellyache about the money he’s been spending. Too bad, Tommy boy, and the rest of your clan. Tom Ricketts is responsible for depriving the Cardinals of their small market compensation pick by changing the rules just to hurt the Cardinals. What a cheap shot! Granted. The Cubs won the World Series n 2016, but I doubt if they’ll win another one for the next 108 years.

I really enjoyed the in depth discussion of Matthews. After he blew through the system in 2024, I thought we were onto something big. Now I’m in wait and see mode, and feel okay about it. Still looking forward to how it all pans out for Matthews.

Kyle talks with an in depth, and fully researched, appraisal of players and pitchers. Love his enthusiasm. Brian is always right there, fully informed, as you might expect. Thanks for a very entertaining show.

I wasn’t sure where to post this….. But I just noticed that the Cardinals have 3 18 year olds, 1 20 year old, and 2 21 year olds listed in their Top 10. Of the remaining players listed in the Cardinals Top 30 all are grown ups, except for Deniel Ortiz, 20 years old and ranked at No.24 and Kenly Hunter, 17 years old and ranked at No.30. And then there’s Tanner Franklin and Jake Gurevitch. Both are 21 years old and no doubt have a drivers license to prove it. They both just turned 21 a few weeks ago and should be mentioned, also, IMO.

He’s got to be tired after the ramp up in innings this year.

I sure hope that’s all it is. And I hope some of McGreevy’s levelheadedness rubs off on Liberatore and Pallante. Both are talented, but neither can get his head screwed on tight.

i don’t know who’s going to replace him in the bullpen. But lately it’s been looking like Leahy is a lock for the rotation next year.

I agree that there’s zero chance of the Cardinals signing Dylan Cease or Framber Valdez. Cease’s numbers aren’t even that good and Valdez is 31 years old old, turning 32 in November, and the pundits are saying that the benchmark his agents will probably be using is the 14.5M$-31.5M$ (203.5M$) that Max Fried will be getting over the last seven years of his contract which encompasses his age 32-38 years old seasons. No sense in even giving those two pitchers a second thought about signing with the Cardinals. That’s not to say that one of the moronic owners won’t do it, though.

My guess is still that they bring Mikolas back for 10-12M$ for a year while Hjerpe, Roby, Matthews round into shape and Mautz, Henderson, maybe Hence emerge.

Thoroughly enjoyable game to watch. It’s amazing what a difference it makes when a player like Gray is really feeling it.

Gorman has got to go this offseason. His glove wasn’t that reliable at 2B either. His bat ought to bring a high ceiling pitcher if he grts traded. Donovan or Saggese can handle 3B.
