And the Dodgers are the first team to repeat as WS champions since the ’99 NY Yankees. They didn’t get any bargains either. They walked into a veritable dogfight with these Toronto Blue Jays. Yamamoto becomes the first pitcher to record 3 W’s in a single WS since Randy Johnson in 2001. I’d say Yamamoto is the WS MVP.

The more I think of the misery and torment these Blue Jay fans are going through right now, the more I feel their anguish. They had this championship right in their mitts……and somehow someway it got away.
Yamamota has to be in my book. 3 wins and he put the team in his back with each pitching performance.

Yamamoto is now 7-1 with a 2.25 ERA in 56 innings of post-season work. That’s already what I’d term legendary and he’s only just now completed the second season of his Big League career…Haha!
Yeah 1TD with 2 seasons and 2 rings with such great post seasons, Yamamoto could not throw a single more big league pitch and easily have been worth that $300 million contract
For the better part of these past 2 years, I felt that the Dodgers signed the wrong Japanese pitcher. They would have been better off inking Imanaga to a deal instead of Yamamoto. Boy have those feelings changed over these past 3 months.
We need to buy this new Bloom guy a plane ticket to take him over to the land of the rising sun. Maybe he can locate some arms and bats over there to lift our Cardinals back up to first rate.

The worst part of this is that it almost guarantees a prolonged lockout in 2027. Too many owners are going to be upset that the biggest spending team keeps winning and will demand some form of salary cap. (Obviously this is speculation on my part and hopefully doesn’t come to fruition.)
The Jays manager lost the game once again by subbing out regulars during regulation.

Now the off-season can finally go full steam ahead. There are so many ways things can go with Bloom at the controls. Compared to the last two years we Cardinal fans should have a lot to talk about.
Yeah LA, I was astounded when Schneider had Falefa PR for Bichette with 1 out in the 9th. No way to know if it cost them the game, but after the same tactic burned them the other night, I couldn’t believe he did it again. In any case, it’s almost never a good idea to eliminate one of your most productive offensive weapons.
I’ll be darned, Pugs. I almost would have guaranteed that someone would have had the baseball gypsy fortune telling skills to forsee Yamamoto as the WS MVP.

A great World Series. And a real heartbreak for the Blue Jays and their fans, but they played their hearts out and probably should have won but the Dodgers made some almost improbably plays, and the Jays were a bit banged up.
Taking out Bichette for a runner did not seem like a bad move to me. Yeah, it was risky, but they had the lead and the guy could not run at all. Earlier in the game had they had almost anyone else on second on that single they would have had another run, but Bichette could only hobble to third. On the pinch-running situation, had a guy doubled in the gap and Schneider kept Bichette out there, people would have been all over him for not having a runner.
So I don’t fault him for that move.
Lets hope saner thoughts prevail when the new agreement is being negotiated and we don’t kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. But their are issues that have to be dealt with. The “haves” are going to probably need to give a little more to the “have nots”, as it takes two to tango. But that is a topic for a year from now.
Congrats to the Dodgers. They hung in there and got ‘er done.
I could have better understood removing Bichette for a PR if he’d been standing on 2B or, if there had been 0 outs and a sac-bunt was in order. I just don’t see how you can PR for him with 1 out on the off chance of a gapper that rolls to the wall.
There were reports at the time that some baseball executives viewed the Cardinals as the frontrunner to sign Yamamoto since
they had been courting him the longest, and because he and Nootbaar had become personal friends. What ended that was the Dodgers swooping in and offering Yamamoto a 12 year contract for $27M a year. He collects his last big paycheck at the age of 39.Yeah, that Yamamoto deal a major commitment with a ton of risk. Can’t blame the Cards for not meeting those numbers. He contribute to a ring for the Dodgers, so a good start. But they may be shelling out a lot of moola for little production for a few years late in that deal.
But it still might end up being worth it.
I have seen several people on social media claim that the Dodgers are ruining baseball. I am going to push back on that. Let’s count the ways:
1. Anyone who watched this series saw that the difference between the two teams was microscopic. The Jays were inches away from winning on multiple occasions. In fact the Jays had the home field adavantage because they had a better record than the Dodgers, as did some other MLB teams.
2. If the Dodgers are “ruining baseball” do you really think a salary cap will fix it? First of all MLB already has a defacto cap with the CBT. Perhaps the rules and penalties could be stiffened but let’s look at the other leagues who have a true cap. The NBA has a cap yet for almost a decade they were dominated by the Golden St. Warriors. The NFL has a cap and they have recently been dominated by the Kansas City Chiefs. One thing those two teams have in common is they both have had a once in a generation talent in Steph Curry and Patrick Mahomes. The Cardinals once had a guy like that in Albert Pujols. The Dodgers have that in Ohtani. Yes they have other stars but he is the best player on the planet. Could other teams have afforded him? Yes they could have. Ironically it came down to between the Dodgers and Blue Jays for his services. The Mets could also have afforded him as they later on gave Juan Soto an even larger contract.
3. The Dodgers do a lot of things well. They spend big, draft well, trade well, develop well. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to an organization that deserves it. If people want to whine about making MLB more equitable they should worry more about a salary floor instead of a salary cap. Too many billionaire owners whine all the way to the corporate welfare line and it is very irritating to me.
The downside to the Dodgers winning is they they are creeping up on the Cardinals claim to second most WS titles. We currently lead them 11-9, second to the Yanks who have 27.
