As expected, the #STLCards have activated 3B Nolan Arenado. He hasn’t played for the Cards since Aug. 1 because of a right shoulder strain.
INF Jose Fermin was optioned to Memphis (AAA).

Who do you bring up? 40-man candidates are Prieto, Fermin and Siani. Fermin has already been up and down twice this week. Maybe he hasn’t unpacked his bags yet!
Expect the #STLCards to announce an IL designation (bicep strain) for Willson Contreras ahead of today's series finale against CIN, which will end his season.
Contreras was considered day-to-day, but with the strain not improving, the call was made to end his year.

Only five up and downs per season are allowed. But when they replace a player moved to the IL, it doesn’t count toward the five.

Briefly looking over his stats on Baseball Reference makes me think that sometimes the Cardinals sign a player so that he can fulfill a need for the minor league team he gets assigned to. This young man appears to have very little chance of making it to MLB. That said, there is still the possibility that the Cardinals’ talent evaluators saw something in his delivery that they can fix.
Re.: Aaron Holiday. Game log shows he missed 3+ months of the season. Anybody know what the injury was?
Brian, I count 40 on the 40-man list. Miles left but Thompson had to be added, and we had 41. Did you possibly forget Hence in AA?
Players on the 60-day IL are not reinstated to their team’s 40-man roster until five days after the World Series ends.
It will be 40 when Thompson returns.
