I wonder why they list Weatherholt as the Memphis shortstop when Wynn just won the GG at SS while reportedly playing with a nagging injury. (I don’t want to sound like a downer, but as happy as I am with Wynn at SS, he is not Ozzie Smith with the glove. No one is.)

I also updated his player page and my master copy of the Roster Matrix. But I neglected to put any of it on the live copy. Today, I went in and inserted the 9/9 transactions, but I did not try to move players around retroactively.
The good news is that I believe the new Matrix is correct. At least I hope so! Sorry for the confusion.
Regarding Wetherholt, the position he played most was shortstop and the team he ended the season with is Memphis. Until he is playing elsewhere regularly for another team, which won’t happen until 2026, there is no better place to list him than where he is currently. I never guess about where players might be in the future, position or team. The Roster Matrix is a current representation.

I should have listed Torres as a possible add. I certainly considered him but didn’t considering his age. Good for him. Glad he gets a raise and a chance.
Weatherholt played some 3b at Memphis at end of the year…..Winn may not be Ozzie Smith but he is still pretty darn good and young and cheap….him and Weatherholt are pretty good building blocks…along with Donovan on the infield
Sad to see Siani go, but it was the right move. He has such a redundant skill set with Scott. I wish him well in Atlanta. I really did like watching Siani with the glove.
Happy to see Torres get the shot. He was one of my top 50 prospects last year and someone I thought should have been added to the 40 man. Glad to see he was. Despite me liking him, I will say he is probably one of the easier 40 man cuts if a spot is really needed. But I do think Torres could be a valuable up down role player.
I’m not sad to see Munoz to go.
I agree ATM. I thought Siani was one of the best defensive CF’s the Cardinals have had in a long time but yes he and Scott are redundant. It was the right move.
Am I counting correctly that we have TWELVE players who will be arbitration-eligible this offseason: Alcalá, Burleson, Donovan, Fernández, Gorman, Herrera, King, Nootbar, Pallante, Romero, Siani, Walker?

AlcalaI just double checked both our lists on baseball-reference.com, which indicates that Fernández, Herrera, Liberatore, and Walker are all arbitration eligible in 2027 and free agent 2030. Should the correct list be the nine gscottar gives minus Liberatore? If not, why the discrepancy?
-JoeNext year is 2026. Walker has a touch over 2 years service time. Herrera the same. Fernandez has less than two, although I’m not totally sure. So they will be eligible for 2027, or after next year.
The guys eligible for arbitration this winter would have a 2026 by their name in BRef.

Liberatore is on my list. He is one of the nine arb eligible now.
Cot’s does a good job of listing who is arb eligible in what year.
He elected free agency but MLB ruled that he is under team control for another season because he was injured all last season and didn’t pitch.
I think Thompson could be a real asset this year for the major league club. He may not start the year in St. Louis, but will contribute to the bullpen by May or June. He has shown flashes in the past that give me hope that he will come back strong from his injury.
I hope there is more roster churn, because King, Alcala, Roycroft, and possibly Koperniak are not worthy IMO of a 40 man roster spot. And why we didn’t try the Memphis leader in innings and strikeouts, Curtis Taylor sometime during the season. Our starting pitching was a disaster for the most part. And I agree Thompson could be useful next year.

The result is the same. The non-tender wording is specific to arbitration eligible players, who have to follow a defined process to set their salaries.

I hope that the new regime would have thought watching worn to a nub Pallante stagger across the finish line was less helpful than seeing what a guy killin it in Memphis could do, but Mo was in charge of the ML roster, so I am not surprised they did what they did.
I wish the FO would not consider salary more important than performance. Mikolas and Pallante should not have been starting the last couple months of the season on a non contending team. I know we were technically in the wild card race, but realistically there wasn’t reason to think we were going to make a long playoff run. Taylor or Wilkerson could be tried out. Maybe extend Leahy? It’s like the FO wants to get their moneys worth.
It might be that Bill would have thrown Mo out the window if he sat one of the contracts that Bill was paying for. Remember, Mo had Bill spend $85 Million to solve the catcher problem, and there was still a catcher problem, and instead have an $85 Million guy at DH/1B where we already have min wage guys who can do that. Plus some other pitcher signs had gone bad and the bronze busts had flamed out.
