BHC. I don’t accept the team’s incompetence because I simply do not see incompetence. What I see is one or two fans who are super sensitized to what they see as an affront to their fandom so they go off on a rant about something of which they have no knowledge. I think it best to move on to the next game thread while you continue to stew. I think the word the millenials use now is: CHILL
Even a strong supporting fan such as me can recognize that maybe this lineup is not working. Shildt knows more for sure but it is not looking good when the pitcher outhits the #1 batter. I would hope that someday MCarp could be tried in another position in the lineup (or on the bench). Jose is looking very decent in RF. Fowler is not looking that great at the plate. So……………..
<I seriously don’t understand the fans who continue to defend incompetence. This is why the organization has fallen so far off a cliff because people defend everything the organization does instead of holding them accountable. >
Not really trying to knock you BHC but to some it may appear you are the one is is off the cliff. What possible difference has it made in your life to find out that Hicks is out for a long time because of the MRI results. The problem was given a final diagnosis the same day the MRI was conducted. I think it is about time I leave this thread and head for game 79.
<He probably had no other knowledge at that time.
That’s why Shildt should have said nothing, especially with the team’ history of being wrong concerning injuries.>
Can you imagine a manager and trainer taking a pitcher out of a ballgame and then saying nothing to the media. He would be roasted and rightfully so. I saw no problem with how it was handled. Tendinitis was the initial diagnosis until the MRI was done and evaluated. Then the UCL problem was announced. As far as the team history of being wrong concerning injuries I do not believe that ‘history.’ They give an initial diagnosis based on the apparent medical indications than update it with results of tests. I really have a problem with people getting their knickers twisted because of something so minor.
Now that is one chart that blows my mind. What is it supposed to mean? The Yankees according to this chart should be on the bottom of MLB in wins. Instead they lead their division. San Fran is at the bottom in wins and also in injuries. Also ages of the injured seem to play no part in the chart. For this old bird it is something I do better at not seeing as, at least to me, it is meaningless gibberish. Perhaps I should change my screen name to NOSTATMAN…..lol
Piscotty should get a nice round of applause tonight. His trade has helped both teams and his family situation also. A tip of the hat to Mo for making it happen.
Great post Brian. You echo my sentiments. I don’t understand why anybody is complaining. What would the Cardinals gain by withholding the Hicks information? Are there a bunch of gamblers around here that would lose money on not having that info? I look at it as just plain old bad news that our closer is out for the season and probably most of next season also if he has the operation. As for the Cubs new closer, it is a case of the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence – the guy hasn’t tossed a single pitch yet but he is being described by some as our big loss. Of course that is the fault of the FO. No use n beating this dead horse any longer.
I go to a Cardiopulmonary Rehab exercise program three days a week. A lot of other old farts like me also attend and there are about a dozen Cardinal fans and one or two Cub fans. I was not really surprised today when the topic of conversation was the reception that Pujols got. Of the eight Cardinal guys and the lone Cub fan that were there today, ALL said they got sick of the Pujols attention with every single at bat and all of the special programming devoted to his visit. They all agreed that AP is a great ballplayer who did great things in St Louis but, as one guy said, he would have been booed if he came back the year after he left.
I was happy to see Albert be recognized but also was of the opinion that it was starting to border on being idolized. I don’t think he asked for any of it but was happy to see what came forth.
For me the bottom of the ninth inning was more entertaining than the rest of the game. Good hitting and lucky hitting almost overcame that slow offensive performance. I bet I wasn’t the only person who was thinking that if DeJong could only hit a dinger the Cards would have actually won the game. So much for dreaming. They took the series anyway.
Usually in this game when you have men on base, even with two outs, and your leadoff hitter is coming to the plate you have some hope of scoring. Not so any more at my house. Shifts and lousy launch angles make for poor leadoff hitter. Last night I was mildly surprised to see Bader batting 7th and Wong 8th. Harry’s son is a terrific CF but needs to round up some putty to plug that hole in the bat. Maybe more Edmonds time is needed – seems to help him and Jose.
Biggest slam of the night – the ESPN broad saying that Jose has a bad arm. She needs some video of the throw from RF to 3B on the fly to nail a runner.

Sure wouldn’t hurt to see if he could. Seemed to play 2B ok. Maybe he could come up with a new edible (Edman’s Edibles) to replace the salsa and crunch. Yairo also years for 3b playing time.
God has left the building. God was praised. Life as we know it can now return to normal.
Hicks has triceps tendinitis. Couple of days to a week says Schildt.
Judging from the amount of rain in Mo today, tonights game may be a late starter – very late but the Cards have Monday off. However, maybe God on the Angels team can clear the way for play.

I agree with every word and you said it so much better than my blattering.
Albert Pujols is a great baseball player who has a ticket to the Hall of Fame and deserves it. Fox Sports Midwest should have a ticket to the Hall of Shame for such a lousy broadcast. AP deserved all the applause he got for good deeds done in the past but McLaughlin and Horton did everything but run down to the dugout and ask him to bend over so they could kiss his tush.
As an example, the entire 4th inning was nothing but Pujols chatter. During the Cards at bats, the camera would show a pitch and then click over to AP standing in his position at 1B. They did this for every single pitch of the inning and added a few more in between. If it wasn’t AP chatter it was the Blues taking over the broadcast. Then even AP’s wife (who many blame for his departure) had to be interviewed during the game by Hayes.
It actually dawned on me that when I go to church on Sundays, God is not mentioned as much as Albert Pujols was today. I guess God didn’t leave us for 250 million. Thanks for all you have done Albert and I know Sunday will be just more of the same because the ESPN honks will have a chance to praise the king. Maybe the Angels and the Cards can meet in the playoffs this season – wouldn’t that be a hoot…lol
8 OF 12 won. Surely they can do better. Only a 162-0 season is acceptable.
Take it anyway you like. Afterall this is Hindsight Nation. I just don’t recall a lot of slaps on the back when the team had the best record in the major leagues. But if my dislike for Carpenter is hatred in your eyes then so be it. He is not my favorite and from what I have read lately I am not alone. His worst enemy is the media (read- Fox Sports Midwest). They pump him up to heights not attainable and then spend a lot of time talking about with every hit he is making his run. If they would just let him alone and quit pushing the silly stuff like the salsa and crunch he might do better. IIRC he did do better when Shildt moved him out of the #1 spot for a few games but the replacements at #1 did nothing. But that doesn’t mean you have to stop looking for a replacement #1 and revert to what wasn’t working anyway. For example, Edman seems to have a pretty good eye and plays multiple positions. He could try the leadoff for a few games and vary his positions to give guys a day off.
By the way, my quote that you seem to think is hatred is not that. It is fact.
<That’s why you don’t pinch run with pitchers. >
Uh, I do believe the last bench player was at the plate. Should we have done a callup from Memphis?
<Brian Walton wrote:
My goodness, what a gloom and doom thread. Last place? C’mon folks.>
Agree Brian. I never read these posts during a game. Just hold off until the next morning to see the hatred being spewed. Sound like a bunch of negative nellies but that seems to be their specialty. Talk about fair weather fans – Cardinal Nation seems to have a nest of them. I know I won’t make any friends with this post. I am not as smooth as Brian with the words.
From what I have seen this series, yep there is a definite lack of offense at times but what was most surprising was the quality of the Miami pitchers. If I got this right, two of them were pitching their first MLB game and the others were not exactly old pros. The Cards might do well to try and trade for a couple of them – including the one they traded away – Gallen.
This next series should be interesting but whoever posted that bit about how many times McLaughlin would mention AP last night – you lost when you said 208 or whatever it was. I quit counting at 400+. The two motormouths sounded like the AP Promotion Agency. Agree that he did well in the Lou during his time but his time was 8 years ago.
I get your point gscottar but I would not expect him to say that Reyes stinks and will never make a major league team. The game just isn’t played that way, at least not in public.

Spot on but you forgot about the eye, you know the best eye in baseball, better than any umpires eye. Yep that eye can watch two strikes go by, foul off a pitch and then watch the third strike go by and remind the HPU that this batter has a superior eye. And the HPU just laughs at him and says, “Whose eye counts son.”
<DannyMac is the king of manufactured drama. I find it annoying but that is why they invented the mute button.>
Mute button: Most used device on the remote during Cardinal games. Motormouth Thompson, McCarver and McLaughlin just tend to irritate me to no end when the game is going on in front of them and they just won’t let go of some 1950s story. The other night there was a pickoff but Lou was the subject of the night for his 80th birthday but they just wouldn’t let it go and get back to the game. So it was yaba yaba yaba, there’s a pickoff, yaba, yaba, yaba.
And those 3rd inning special guests can border on the ridiculous at times – I always miss their message because the mute is engaged.
McLaughlin has a lot of weight this season but it has to be from movement of the jaw.

McLaughlin is definitely trying to hustle up some cheers. There will be some no doubt but I also expect to hear some boos. Also read that the Cards are going to make several presentations to their defected hero but not sure what they are.
I have to believe that they are saving Wacha for the Angels on purpose. For him it will be sink or swim time. IIRC Wacha is the player we got with the extra pick that resulted from Pujols moving on. Is that correct? It may well be Pujols putting the end to Michael’s days as a starter. I think it would have been really interesting seeing AP, Yadi and Waino going at it Friday but that is not to be.

So you like the center fielder with a hole in his bat?
