Horrendous. Flaherty wasn’t paying attention at all and gets thrown out like a nincompoop. That’s why you don’t pinch run with pitchers.
I would say splitting a series at home against the Marlins may be a wake up call but we all know it won’t happen.

Some of us have known for a bit.
If we go .500 to LA Angels, Oakland and San Diego it won’t wake anyone up in the front office either. They’ve made the moves they wanted to make and won’t do anything else of substance.

Agree Brian. I never read these posts during a game. Just hold off until the next morning to see the hatred being spewed. Sound like a bunch of negative nellies but that seems to be their specialty. From what I have seen this series, yep there is a definite lack of offense at times but what was most surprising was the quality of the Miami pitchers. If I got this right, two of them were pitching their first MLB game and the others were not exactly old pros. The Cards might do well to try and trade for a couple of them – including the one they traded away – Gallen.
This next series should be interesting but whoever posted that bit about how many times McLaughlin would mention AP last night – you lost when you said 208 or whatever it was. I quit counting at 400+. The two motormouths sounded like the AP Promotion Agency. Agree that he did well in the Lou during his time but his time was 8 years ago.

IT wasn’t that the Miami pitchers were good it was the cardinals offense is that bad and the OF to stupid to do anything about it
At the very least, Flaherty needs to stop being used as a pinch runner. He may be the fastest of the starters, but he’s embarrassed himself two times in a row in a pinch running role, and that’s not good for anyone. Being fast doesn’t make you a good base runner.
I think a lot of people need to just step back and see the Cardinals for what they are – not that great. Andrew Miller is pretty much a good embodiment of the team. Was good recently. Still carries a big name, so people think higher of them they should. Will have moments where they look like the older, better version. But will regress to their mean. And overpaid.
We are what we are, and we aren’t in a very good position to sell. The team has been sloppily put together for several years now, and we are seeing the results. They are stuck in the ugly middle, laden with bad contracts.
Can they come out of it before Goldschmidt’s prime is over? We shall see, but I have my doubts if they stick with same management and their same plan.
Where is Tony LaRusa when you need him? This is a situation that cries out for batting the pitcher 8th and Carpenter 9th. At least until he gets out of this funk.
If they don’t think Martinez can field, he should be traded to an AL club.Welcome, BrockLou. Word is that they tried to trade Martinez last winter, but couldn’t get a fair offer. He could be a candidate again this year, though the contract extension might suggest they want to keep him as an inexpensive reserve.
One could argue that the NL Central may not be the best division right now.

So are the comments below (copied from earlier in this thread) the kind of stuff you’re talking about? Is that hatred being spewed? Just trying to learn what a good and loyal fan can say and can’t say without being told to go root for another team. LOL.

Spot on but you forgot about the eye, you know the best eye in baseball, better than any umpires eye. Yep that eye can watch two strikes go by, foul off a pitch and then watch the third strike go by and remind the HPU that this batter has a superior eye. And the HPU just laughs at him and says, “Whose eye counts son.”
Take it anyway you like. Afterall this is Hindsight Nation. I just don’t recall a lot of slaps on the back when the team had the best record in the major leagues. But if my dislike for Carpenter is hatred in your eyes then so be it. He is not my favorite and from what I have read lately I am not alone. His worst enemy is the media (read- Fox Sports Midwest). They pump him up to heights not attainable and then spend a lot of time talking about with every hit he is making his run. If they would just let him alone and quit pushing the silly stuff like the salsa and crunch he might do better. IIRC he did do better when Shildt moved him out of the #1 spot for a few games but the replacements at #1 did nothing. But that doesn’t mean you have to stop looking for a replacement #1 and revert to what wasn’t working anyway. For example, Edman seems to have a pretty good eye and plays multiple positions. He could try the leadoff for a few games and vary his positions to give guys a day off.
By the way, my quote that you seem to think is hatred is not that. It is fact.
