    The Doppler Radar shows St. Louis currently is having rain and storms. Anybody got any scoop on the weather here? Is this one going to be delayed or perhaps even PPD?

    Apparently there is going to be somewhat of a delay.

    Where is everybody today? Out checking out BMWs and eating catfish fiddlers?

    r/Esteemed Rat <~~~~who is having corn on the cob, sloppy joe, mashed potatoes/gravy, lemonade, and strawberries for lunch while he watches the game. Then a cigar after lunch is over.

    Dan and Ricky waxing nostalgic over Pujols…”I wonder what he’s thinking right now”…”what if he had stayed”…”what hat will he wear for the HOF”… I almost can’t listen any more and wish they’d just get on calling the game. Fans don’t hate Pujols for leaving or adore him for his time here, so let’s move along. It’s just baseball and he’s now a LA Angel. He’s also a great humanitarian and credit to St Louis and LA, which I respect greatly, but no more comments on Pujols.

    Unfortunately I will not be able to watch any of the Cardinals games this weekend but I will be Checking out my phone to see how they are doing. Seems pretty good so far, with a 2-0 lead. Hudson seems to have bounced back after his last start which was a little erratic.

    What was the reception like for AP in today’s game during his at bats?

    About a 30 second standing O w/Yadi applauding first time up.

    It’s funny the game of baseball if I had just gone by how the Cardinals have played the last six weeks and not checked out any other teams that we were chasing and how they were doing and I had not looked at the standings for six weeks I would’ve probably thought we were 6 or 7games out of first but as I wake up this morning and look at the standings in spite of how we’ve been playing recently we find ourselves only two games behind the Cubs for the lead and a half game behind the Brewers for second place and at last Check the cubs were trailing the Mets 6-0 in the fifth so if we can hold on to our lead and the Mets can hold onto their lead we would be only one game out of first. Also if the scores hold up today, pending the result of the Cubs game tomorrow, after tomorrow nights game against the angels we could find ourselves in a tie for first place in the Central division Or it worse a half game behind the Brewers depending on what they do the next two nights. either way it’s pretty remarkable.

    AP hits one out in left center and gets a standing O, then does a curtain call. 4-1 Cards. All good, but let’s get that one back.

    Ty CardsRedsox4Ever. I had seen that AP went deep and was going to post Did AP receive a curtain call? And with your post, I have my answer.

    Good effort today. Let’s sweep tomorrow and hope for a Cubs loss. Making progress in the league’s most competitive division. Just gotta keep the offense going.

    Albert Pujols is a great baseball player who has a ticket to the Hall of Fame and deserves it. Fox Sports Midwest should have a ticket to the Hall of Shame for such a lousy broadcast. AP deserved all the applause he got for good deeds done in the past but McLaughlin and Horton did everything but run down to the dugout and ask him to bend over so they could kiss his tush.

    As an example, the entire 4th inning was nothing but Pujols chatter. During the Cards at bats, the camera would show a pitch and then click over to AP standing in his position at 1B. They did this for every single pitch of the inning and added a few more in between. If it wasn’t AP chatter it was the Blues taking over the broadcast. Then even AP’s wife (who many blame for his departure) had to be interviewed during the game by Hayes.

    It actually dawned on me that when I go to church on Sundays, God is not mentioned as much as Albert Pujols was today. I guess God didn’t leave us for 250 million. Thanks for all you have done Albert and I know Sunday will be just more of the same because the ESPN honks will have a chance to praise the king. Maybe the Angels and the Cards can meet in the playoffs this season – wouldn’t that be a hoot…lol

    The Esteemed Rat not being able to post may be the real tragedy in the sporting world today. Don’t look now, but Cincinnati could win this division. Now that Phillips isn’t manning 2nd base any longer, if we don’t win the division, then I’m rooting for Cincy. All 3 top Central divisional dogs (Cards, Crew and cubs) have to be shaking their heads and thinking “we’ve played this horribly and we are still right at the top of the heep…boy are we fortunate”. While the Reds are just overjoyed to be in the playoff conversation. After observing almost 3 months of action, here is an honest non prejudicial odds board on who should win the 2019 NL Central Division.

    1. Milwaukee 2-1
    2. Cincinnati 7-2
    3. St. Louis 4-1
    4. Chicago 4-1
    5. Pittsburgh 38-1

    MM3 — we are of one mind with respect to AP!

    Pugs, I think you’re pretty close with your odds. I might move MIL and CIN down a peg, and CHI up a peg, but that’s all in the ball park, so to speak. Here’s a mathematical thought…don’t all the probabilities need to add up to 100% since it’s a closed loop for the division? (Just jerking your chain, guess I have nothing better to do on a Saturday night!!)

    MIL = 50% (2-1)
    CIN = 28.6% (7-2)
    STL = 25% (4-1)
    CHI = 25% (4-1)
    CIN = 2.6% (38-1)

    Total = 131.2%

    I’d move MIL down just because their bullpen may struggle late. Hader is the only sub 1.0 WHIP right now with Knebel and Suter out for the year. Not sure their remaining BP can pick up the slack. But if our Cards don’t keep their offense going, we’ll be in CINCI territory pretty soon!

    I see we have a true mathematician in our midst. I will now have to cross my mathematical “t’s” and dot my “i’s” in these waters. Well done, CardsRedSox4Ever! With these central teams being so competitively close in the standings, at the end of the day one thing…one superior player is going seperate his team from the rest of the pack….and that man of course is Christian Stephen Yelich. I know I’m beating a dead horse here, but that future HoFer was ours for the taking….right there….we had the minor league pitching talent Miami was coveting…..Miami would easily have sent Yelich to the Cardinals and left Marcell for the Brewers, or some other team.

    Pugs, you are “misremembering” what happened. Yelich was not “there for the taking”. The Cards were told that Yelich was not available. After Ozuna was traded, Milwaukee convinced the Marlins a month later to deal Yelich to them.

    The percentages assigned to those odds are off. With odds of X:Y, then the percentage or probability (in a fair play) is Y÷(X+Y). In other words, if you bet Y and win, then you win X, plus you also get back the original Y that you paid. For example, odds of 1:1 would be for something like a coin flip. It’s a 50/50 deal and if you bet a dollar, you’d expect to win a dollar, plus get back the dollar you paid for the bet.

    MIL = 33.3% (2-1)
    CIN = 22.2% (7-2)
    STL = 20% (4-1)
    CHI = 20% (4-1)
    CIN = 2.6% (38-1)

    Total is 98.1%, which means it is very close to fair play, but still slightly favoring the house. The odds need to be raised slightly to make the them equivalent to 100%. Of course the odds in the real world betting aren’t set to fair play, but rather they are set and changed as needed to shift the betting dollars to areas which raise the likelihood of a profit for the house.

    Why was Hicks removed? If he is hurt, I have heard nothing of it.

    I had no connection yesterday and this morning so I couldn’t watch the game but good on Albert for the dinger and good on the Cards for winning the game. Hudson is doing his best Mikolas ’18 impression, and it would be nice if the rest of the rotation could do the same. Hoping for the sweep today.

    Hicks had looked dominating the times I saw him recently. Too bad, let’s hope the followup evals on him are not so serious. And stlcard25’s comment on Hudson kinda snuck up on me since I haven’t been watching too closely the last few weeks, although I had noticed he had been doing some better recently. Sometimes patience is the right approach.

    Pugs, you are “misremembering” what happened. The Cards were told that Yelich was not available. After Ozuna was traded, the Brewers convinced the Marlins a month later to deal Yelich to them.

    So even after the Marlins traded one of their starting outfielders(Ozuna), the Brewers still managed to convince the Marlins to part ways with another, long after the Cardinals couldn’t do the same when Miami had all of their outfield still intact. Sounds to me like the Brewer brass is much more aggressive and insightful than that of St. Louis’.
