Everyone remembers Sutters 82 ws clinching strikeout. What I remember most was in July at Philly he induced Mike Schmidt to hit into a 123 dp with the bases loaded. Cardinals took over first and never looked back. Those 2 big moments define his Cardinal career. When he was on he was unhittable. But I agree his # probably shouldn’t have been retired.
I was raised in KC even though I am and was a Cardinals fan. Charlie moved the A’s after the 67 season and they broacast the Cardinals games. Anyway when the Royals came to town, I watched them but didn’t embrace them. Point is,I lived a mile from the stadiums and saw a lot of George Brett. He was a marvelous hitter. Best I have seen until AP showed up.
Would be really nice to leave SmellA with a split. Keeping this thing around 500 thru this brutal schedule to start the season would be huge. Need to get Matz thru the first couple innings without any damage. Lynn’s 4 clean innings yesterday was the difference. Happy Easter to all!

I would love to know how much autonomy Ollie really has. Very little is what I think. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if MO is controlling the lineup as well as game situations. Bling is right that firing Marmol doesn’t really do anything. None of this makes sense to me-they won’t spend they won’t rebuild. I think keeping all the young guys is telling. I predict a major change when MO is done after 25. In the meantime I’m ready to win these next two against the Dodgers.
Of course I want them to play on the same level as the Dodgers and the other big spenders. But you are being naive if you think that’s happening. Go ahead and be frustrated it’s OK with me. But I’m going to wait until they prove they suck against the rest of the league. Until than I’m going to try and enjoy the long awaited season. For the record, their approach this season wasn’t what I would have liked. But until it’s failure is proven, I’m gonna try and enjoy the team I’ve followed for 55 years. Cheers
Nothing like a bichfest 2 games into the season against the best roster in the league. Let me point out there have been no errors so that’s encouraging. We obviously need to get the offense going. Scoring runs takes pressure off the pitching. And I’m wondering what level of baseball I need to have played to understand game strategy? Maybe they have no intentions of pitching Gallegos 2 days in a row so he goes 2 innings? Ask Ollie.
I’ve had multiple shoulder injuries from impact falls. Shoulder sprains. I could figure 4-6 weeks recovery. For normal use. I can’t even imagine throwing a baseball.
They should burn Burlesons gloves. But he’s earned the dh spot against rh sp going forward. He will need to keep his slug and ops up to retain that position.
All statistical data and metrics can be informative and provide good guidelines as to a players value. But it can also be misleading. Especially WAR. If you dig a little it’s easy to find statistical comparisons where player a had better stats than player b. But player b was clearly superior. Specifically, WAR, like most stats, can’t measure intangibles. Really, nothing can. That’s why we have these discussions about who is better. With that said, I really appreciate the guys who take the time to put up the statistical arguments. I don’t have time, and I never dismiss them.
