Diamondbacks hit us with a deuce in the bottom of the 5th…..it could get worse, as AZ has the bases loaded to the gills. Mikolas exits with 2 outs and in trots Pallante…..didn’t he pitch last night? Must be thinking of Friday night.

Oli used GG in a early/mid reliever role, to put out a fire, and it blew up on him.

    Now Pallante gets the opp.

And as we sink into another terrible year, Tyler O’Neill about to win AL player of the month, Geez Louise, how much worse can it get?

And Andre throws gas on it. I don’t know which pitch it is that he keeps bouncing, but he needs to quit throwing it w/runners on.

    Oli love him some Pallante.

Another bonehead move by Marmol. There is almost no situation where Pallante is a better option than Mikolas.

He keeps bouncing his new curve ball (his “deathball”). That’s been a wild pitch 3 times in 2 days.

Pallante does what he does. He gets 2 ground balls. One got through and the other didn’t. I still can’t decide if he’s actually good or bad. It would be nice to get a couple of our relievers healthy and allow Pallante to work out his kinks at Memphis.

I don’t think I’m going to lose sleep watching them on the wc against the A’s next week. You guys tell me what happens.

When I think of Pallante, the term that comes to mind is not “rally killer”. There has to be a better option there. Mikolas was toasted.

I am taking it personally. I was out this afternoon and didn’t turn the game on until the bottom of the fifth. Ugh!

Another R-CF from Arenado. I hope that’s his intentional target line. He hits a lot of HR’s foul. This will help.

And another K by Gorman, just to top it off. I wonder if he was using his get on base swing instead of his home run swing.

There is going to be some clubhouse grumbling from these starters if they keep pitching well, and as soon as they get in a little trouble the manager is panicked and pulling them.

Or shut up and pitch better?

Not to be rude Mike, but they aren’t doing well. Accountability thing, right?

Bikemike, balls were getting hit hard all over the park against Mikolas, then he couldn’t throw strikes. On the telecast, they noted he was not finishing his pitches and was clearly tiring. He had thrown 27 pitches that inning.

    single
    double
    sac fly
    double
    ground out
    walk
    walk
    two in and bases loaded

I don’t think Marmol panicked. He was trying to not lose control of the game. Andre didn’t get his job done, either, as he allowed all three inherited runners to score.

Reminder that keeping Gibson in the game yesterday led to a three-run homer in the sixth that cost them the game.

P.S. IMO, if there is any grumbling, it ought to be about the toothless offense.

This team is begininng to display signs that they may be a worse ballclub than the ’23 edition. I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think a Cardinal team has been in last place for this many days of an entire year during my lifetime. Cardinal baseball’s getting a bit sad to watch.

From Cardinals Media Relations coming into today. “Fifth” is the politically correct replacement for “last” place.

The Cardinals open today’s schedule in 5th place in the
National League Central, 4.0 games behind first place Milwaukee (10-3).
The four-game deficit is the largest of the season for the Cardinals matching
their position on April 8. St. Louis has spent one game over .500 on April
6 (5-4), five games at .500, most recently yesterday, and nine gamedays
below .500, with their largest deficit at two games under .500 on March 31.

To be fair to Pallante it was never proclaimed that the death ball would inflict pain on opposing hitters. Perhaps it is to be inflicted onto Cardinal fans.

Bottom of the order has came up light in RBI chances. Walker bases loaded yesterday. Crawford and Siani again today, sacks full.

I like Gorman 7th to help the bottom of the order. Noots obp should move up and Nolans slg% down.

Haha…”Fifth?” Last season on April 14 they weren’t in last place. The were in fourth place on that day, but were also 2 games under and 4 games off the pace in the NLC, which is exactly where they’ll be today unless they erase this 5-0 deficit and pull this game out of the fire.

O’Neill with another tater today gives him 7 on the season which, best I can tell, leads the entire Big Leagues.
