And Gurriel plates him with an rbi single……6-3 and Matz couldn’t stick around for another out……he can’t win or lose this game now…..but Gallegos can, as he’s sprinting in from the pen. Game on!

This is third time thru their order, which Matz needs to improve on.

Matz threw 81 and 85 pitches his first two starts.

Matz hook, he wilted. 6-3 now.

Tough one for Matz. A couple of balls not hit well but he is lifted only needing one out to get a possible win. Don’t agree with taking him out him here.

Matz just reminded me of Jamie Garcia, who could lose his composure over a ball back to him also.

Gallegos walks Walker and up steps Suarez……and thar she blows!…..and it really does blow….a 3 run tater to right and this game is knotted up at 6.

How disappointing seeing a 6 run lead vanish so quickly. But this is where quality teams battle right back and grab another nice lead…..let’s hit them with at least 2 runs here in the 6th.

In a game such as this, momentum is worth 2 runs at this juncture for the come-from-behind home team. In my mind the score isn’t 6-6, but rather 8-6 Arizona…..we need to battle back and put this baby in the St. Louis win column.

Boy Winn got around way too quick…..or that would have been a bomb to left….and now he whiffs. Heading to the bottom of the 6th with Arizona on top 8-6…….even though the scoreboard has it at 6-6.

So not to confuse, I’ll give the actual score the rest of the way. Gallegos strikes out our old pal Randal Grichuk and then does likewise to the next batter, Alexander. And then induces Kevin Newman to hit a little tapper right back where it originated from and we move along to the 7th tied at 6.

Joe Mantiply on to pitch for the Diamondbacks in the top of the 7th. Let’s multiply a couple of runs off Mantiply here if we can…..let’s see….a Scott and a Donovan single times a Goldy bomb would work great for starters.

Donny(Donovan) with a one out triple…let’s stay with the action shall we?

Goldy – Reaches way out and pokes a base hit to center and the Cards have recaptured the lead 7-6 and they’re looking for more……a lot more if they can.

Gorman- Nolan needs to launch one here in front of his home folk…..but he strikes out swinging…..and that will do it for Mantiply.

Pitching change: Castro on for AZ.

Arenado- Fists a base hit into shallow right field and Goldy will move around to 3rd.

Contreras- Fouls out to the catcher and ouch that hurts.

    Cards 7
    Diamondbacks 6

Gee that Suarez 3 run tater turned the lights out here at The CardinalNation……anyone else left around here?

JoJo Romero on to pitch here in the bottom of the 7th. Thinking of other famous JoJo’s????? JoJo White of the Celtics is the only I can think of at the moment. And to lead matters off, Winn makes an errant throw to 1st and Marte is safe. Then Carroll Bounces out to 2nd where Gorman will get the lead runner(Marte) only. Gurriel hits one a mile high to deep left, but fortunately Nooty hauled it in on the track.

    Romero whiffs Walker…..sweet!

Hang in there just 2 more frames, Jnevel……we’re going to need you if we have any chance whatsoever of maintaining this slight advantage.

    McGough on for AZ.

Walker smashes a one out double to center. Imperative that we add on at least one here. Siani pinch running for Walker.

Double by Walker with a pinch runner in Siani. I love that double switch. This is exactly why I pulled for Siani to make the team out of Spring Training. He’s very useful in this limited role.

Yes! What spunk our boys are showing….Winn triples to right and it’s 8-6….make that 9-6 on Scott’s sac fly……gotta love this….you can hear a pin drop in this joint now as the Cardinal bats have silenced this Diamondback faithful.

Funny game this is……Gallegos prances into this game and walks the first batter he faced, then promptly surrendered a 3 run homer to Suarez to totally evaporate our once big lead…and now he’s in line to pick up the big “W”.

Yes. Wins and losses are so silly. Especially for relievers.
